I know I want to get a Canon powershot, as Kay recomended. But I haven't seen any Canon powershot A60's

These are what I have seen(Please let me know if there about the same) Thanks!!

-Canon PowerShot A300

-Canon Powershot A70

-Canon PowerShot A80(which I definatly cannot afford LOL)

-Canon PowerShot S45(Probably cannot afford either)

I also had other questions about them, this means NO MORE FILM right?? And does it also mean I cannot get them in regular pictures only on the computer?

And just ANY other info anyone can add, as I've never used one lol

AND also, if there is anything else I need, besides the camera, to put the pictures on the computer, like a camera dock:confused:

The A70 is the next model up from the A60. I think Julie has this one. I think the only difference is that it takes slightly larger photos and bigger sized movies.

You can still develop photos from your digital (if you take it at a big enough size). Some use a photo printer and some just take them to photo labs. I've gotten some printed out from the digital and they look GREAT! The colors were so much more vibrant than on our other cameras (some were well over 400 dollars!).

Everything you need to upload pictures onto your computer are in included. It'd be wise to buy some rechargable batteries though...I go through two sets, minimum, every week.

No more film.

You can print out pictures. Some camera places will print them to photo paper for $ if you don't have a color printer. But it saves a ton of money either way because you just print out the ones you like.

The camera will come with a cable to plug it into your computer so you do not need to buy a "dock."

You can, though, also buy a little card-reader for whatever type of media the camera uses.

Digital cameras are great. I have a Canon Powershot S50, and it's fabulous. Now I just have to convince a certain bunny to pose - or at least hold still - some time.

Yep, I do.
It's a GREAT camera, and I highly recommend it. It takes excellent quality pictures. Maybe you can't find the A60 because it's an older model?

I know that for 29 cents (american) we have places like walgreens where you can print out photos that look just like regular film pics. I also print them off my color printer and you can't even tell the difference.

I'm sorry, I know that feeling. I don't have a credit card either, so I usually use a debit card when they ask. At ebay, they just take it directly out of my checking account. You can also buy from ebay, they have them there too.

Again, I am sorry. I hope you get what you want. It would have been nice though. How much are you wanting to spend? If that is any of my business. I was hoping your parents were helping you.

Here is Canon's site, that shows , yes, they still make the A60. So it's out there. Try shopping by phone, call every place in your phone book. Some one will have it. The A70 is still $299.99 at www.Costco.com so the A60 will be less.

We have the S400 and the 300d, love them both.

Well my parents are helping a little lol it's for my birthday--in May, my parents may not even need to help! I'm just going to tell everyone to give me money instead, my grandmother(the one who doesnt live here) always gives me $50 anyway and my pop(that lives here) will probably give me $50 also--maybe more :D--he also slips me a $20 every few weeks lol Gotta love him!! And then my nan who lives here will give me..maybe $30-50(they both have different accounts, different money lol neither of them ever know how much the other has or if the other has spent anything) Then theres my godparents, will get $20-30 from all 3 of them--or maybe just 2. Then theres some aunts and uncles, my great aunt, who will probably give me $35-50--as we're really close!

So that would be what...$220 or more, which is not enough lol but there are a few other people, and my parents are suposibly paying the rest--Maybe I could get the $599.00 one, just tell them their "rest" is 400 dollars :p lol that wouldn't work!

DogLover ~

I made a few phone calls and checked on some things for you...

Canon makes a GREAT Camera! And Customer Support is EXCELLENT!

The A60 (a 2 megaPixel camera) has more than enough resolution for
exchanging and posting Pix on the Internet.
And Canon-USA and Canon-Canada both still sell the A60 model.)
IF you really want to take HIGH resolution pictures to
have large (8'x10") enlargements PRINTED - the A70 is "better"...
But more expensive and you'll probably want a Larger Media Card than
comes with the camera (another $50-$100).

Now the Bad News is - you live on the "wrong side" of
the US - Canada border! :p :(

MOST Internet Sellers of Canon Cameras - like http://www.Amazon.com
and http://www.BuyDig.com either do NOT sell into Canada or
charge OUTLANDISH prices to ship into Canada!

The guy I talked to at BuyDig.com estimated it would cost an
 EXTRA $85 to ship the $159 Canon A60 into Canada.

Amazon.com will NOT ship a camera across the US-Canada border.
And http://www.Amazon.com.CA
(the Canadian version of the US Amazon.com) -
does not sell cameras. :(

Then there's the WARRANTY Issue...
I got TWO different versions of how Canon might handle that!
Best thing for YOU to do is
CALL Canon-CANADA at 1-800-652-2666
and ASK THEM if Canon-CANADA will honor the warranty IF the
camera is purchased in the USA.
Canon-USA will NOT ship a repaired camera back to an address IN Canada!

You need to find out IF you purchase a camera from someone in the US -
WILL Canon-CANADA repair it under Warranty.

Be REAL Careful buying something "expensive" at eBay.com -
you have NO Guarantee that the Canon Warranty will be honored IF
something goes wrong!

One other thing -
Does your COMPUTER have a USB Port on it???
Most of the Newer Digital Cameras require a USB Port to
directly connect the Camera to the Computer.
There ARE other ways - but the USB Port on the computer makes
it MUCH easier to do!

Ask some Friends - or possibly a Camera-Buff SCHOOL Teacher -
for suggestions.
Be CERTAIN whatever you buy can be repaired IN CANADA -
shipping electronic items across the US-Canada border can be
very difficult and expensive!

Here's the Canon-CANADA web site >>>
Canon-CANADA web site (http://www.canon.ca/)

Good Luck!!

Okay, well I found a Canon 2 MP PowerShot A60 Digital Camera, thats the same thing right?? lol

It's ABOUT $179.66-$200.00 here...at wal-mart lol, so thats alot cheaper than I expected! BUT it was the US website, the Canadian one is comming soon, so it'll probably be alot more than that here.

DogLover ~

YES! That's the Camera folks have been suggesting!

How close do you live to a Newfoundland WalMart STORE??

You should CALL a Newfoundland WalMart STORE to ask How Much
the Canon A60 and A70 cameras COST.

That WalMart.com web site just gives prices for sales made
IN the United States - Canadian WalMart prices are going to be different.
I could not find a web site for WalMart CANADA - I don't think there is one.

And - as stated on the US WalMart.com site - they can NOT
sell or ship into Canada! :(
"The Walmart.com Web site only ships orders within the 50 states,
APO/FPO military addresses, as well as
major offshore territories and protectorates of the United States.

All prices are in U.S. dollars, and we do not accept checks,
money orders or credit cards issued by foreign (non-U.S.) banks.

At this time, we do not ship to Canada,
Puerto Rico or other destinations outside the U.S."

Try this web site to locate a Canon DEALER near you >>>

Canon Canada - Dealer Locator (http://www.canon.ca/product_reg.asp?lng=en&pr=4&shlink=http%3A%2F%2Fcanoncanada-loc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/canoncanada_loc.cfg/php/loc/enduser/loc.php?p_locator_view=ConsumerSales)

Enter your City, Province, check "PowerShot Digital Cameras",
and enter a distance you're willing to travel.
The Dealer Locator will give you a list of stores (Including WalMart),
that you should CALL to check prices and availibility.

Be sure to CALL a few of the small Camera Shop Dealers -
ask if they have any "deals" -
They *might* have a returned camera (that someone just didn't like,
or traded in on a different model).
Be sure they will give a Full Factory Warranty and
assure you that there is nothing *wrong* with the camera!

And ask Friends or Relatives who live on MainLand Canada -
you know - OFF the Island -
to check prices in other Provinces.

Whatever you do - I'd suggest you "Buy Canadian"!
You'll have a LOT less problems if Warranty Repairs
are ever required!

Happy Shopping! ;)

My old HP 2.mp camera made wonderful 8x10's. Buy a card reader $15 to $25 and don't use your camera to upload to computer. Make sure the store has a good return policy if you don't like the camera. Do you have Costco in Canada? They have the best return policy around.

Okay I just asked my mom if we have a Costco here, and we do but we have to be a member, and my parents aren't.

tomkatzid
03-03-2004, 03:27 PM
Well, maybe one of your friends or neighbors are membors and they can take you in. I take my friend all the time so she doesn't have to pay for membership. Good luck. Just ask at Wal Mart about returning a camera if you don't think the pictures are good enough for you. Most places like Wal Mart have a certain number of days for return, Costco is almost for ever .
