I live in jersey and we'd get our permits at 16, not 15. We'd get our licenses at 17, not 16.

Permits at 15, and license at 16, I believe.

I don't want to drive though, although I could have had mine permit last year.

When I was growing up in NC, it was permit @ 15 , license at 16. That has since changed to permits at 16, license at 17. Here in WI, it is license at 16.

In Pennsylvania, its 16 to get a permit, plus a minimum of 50 driving hours logged into a book. The hours have to be spent on different type roads and in defferent driving conditions. My 17 year old son has had his permit for 9 months, and only about 30 hours... he's tooo scary to be behind the wheel! We will be taking my daughter for her permit next month the day after she turns 16... most likely she'll be driving before her brother;)

In Indiana it's 16 for a license, unless your grades aren't good enough and then they withhold it until 18. Also, if your grades are bad AFTER you get your license at 16, they will revoke it until you're 18.

In California you can get your Drivers' Permit at 15 and a half, and your License six months after, with a total of 6 hours with a trainer (2 hours during the night).

I think you're allowed to get your L at 16 and you can get your N 9 months after with driving school or 12 months without it. Then, you get your license.

As far as I know, the L allows you to drive with an adult who already has their license and the N allows you to drive either alone, or with only one other person (basically the full license with a restriction as to how many people can ride with you).

In Wyoming, it is 15 for permit, and 16 for license. No driver's ed. requirement, which I think it stupid.

They've changed it to a graduated thing now. So for the first little while you can only drive till a certain time, with a certain amount of people in the car and stuff like that, I think part of it depends on your age....I'm so glad I got mine before it became graduated.

In NZ you get your learners licence at 15, restricted after sitting your practical, which you have for around 18mths, but can be cut down to 15 if you do defensive driving course, with this licence you cannot take passengers, unless they have a full licence, and drive out of certain hours(you can remain on this licence if you wish, but of course have to abide by the restrictions, however having said that, nearly all the youngsters ignore them, and end up eventually getting caught and have large fines usually 450 dollars per offence), then you sit your exit test, to get your full licence.
