Hi everyone,

Here are my two dogs, both rescues that have become the center of our family. They're both about a year old.

this is cassius, maybe a keeshound? or a sheltie mix? we don't know. Any ideas? (sorry about the yellow eyes)

this is greta, some kind of airedale mix, we think

I've been enjoying reading the posts and seeing all the wonderful dogs.

ooo, ask me to talk about the dogs and I'll be here all day LOL

That's actually a puppy pic of greta at about 8 mos, she's now a big girl with lots of ummm character ...here's a recent pic of her mug

She's not beautiful, but she's the one of the happiest dogs I've ever met. Loves people and always has her tail wagging furiously.

Cassius came from a very unhappy household, so we've had to give him lots of TLC and show him that not all people yell and scream. He's making great progress and becoming a real lover.

Both of them recently graduated from obedience class and did great except for jumping on people. We're considering bringing in a private trainer to work on that one specific problem for both of them.

Awww what sweeties! Welcome to Pet Talk! Cassius looks like he may have some shepherd in him? Kinda hard to tell. How big is he?

My name is Jessica and I have a 5-year-old shepherd/greyhound mix named Tasha, and a 3-year-old red golden retriever named Tommy (in my siggy!). Glad to have you here, and look forward to seeing and hearing more about your beautiful pups!

Greta looks like a Schnauzer mix! Does she shed, or does she need to be groomed? That whiskery muzzle says Schnauzer to me!

How big is Cassius? He's a pretty boy for sure!

He weighs around 40 lbs. His body is kinda boxy, and he doesn't have the lines a shepherd. He has a bushy tail that curls over his back exactly like a keeshound.

He was originally touted as a Belgian Tervuran (sp?) in the Petfinder ad, but it was obvious when we saw him that he was too small.

Ahhh yeah, probably not shepherd then. He could very well have Keeshond or sheltie in him then :)

it doesn't really matter to me what they are. But you know, what's the first thing people ask when you talk about your dog..."what kind of dog is it"...I hate getting that blonde look on my face and reeling off 10 breeds for each one LOL

I know what you mean about the dumb blonde look...Trying to think of which 10 breeds they are all mixed with...
I solved this issue w/ my last Dog...Scrubber...
I told people that he was an "Egyptian Crockschnocker"...Very Rare Breed....This either shut them up...or they asked further questions about the breed....

The Best were The Know it Alls...whose immediate response was something along the lines of "Oh Yes,I've Heard of that Breed"
Or even Funnier..."Oh Yes,I had one when I was a Kid!!!Great Breed!!!!":D

Your Dogs are Fabulous!!!!!
Mutts Rule!!!!!;) :) :D

Welcome to Pet Talk - your dogs are beautiful. Both dogs look like they are extremely happy in your home! :D

As far as jumping, I also had a similar problem with Leo and I solved it by using Patricia McConnells body blocking technique.

If you are interested, you can read about it here (http://tutzauer.com/shelterhelpers/no_jump.html)

We have tried the ignore technique, with no success. The dog just keeps on jumping...or will stop, but start again as soon as we turn around.

Both these dogs crave attention. We don't know Greta's circumstances at all, she was a shelter dog, but Cassisus came from an unloving, unhappy household where people were always screaming at each other. What an unhappy doggie he was when we first got him :-((. I considered it a personal victory the first time he wagged his tail :-)

I'm going to try body blocking, and see if that will do anything to stop them.

Thanks for your suggestion :-)

Believe me I understand - the ignore method didn't work on Leo at all either, but the body blocking did. Once I started body blocking him, he would sit and only then would I pet him. It didn't take him long to realize sitting gets pets (although sometimes his natural exhuberance still gets the best of him :) )
