:D Maybe I should make this a weekly thread like the weekly thursdays? Anyways, Tiffaney and I went to walk some dogs today. Sadly, I saw alot of familiar faces but a couple did get adopted. One big guy, Tye (HUGE am. bulldogX), had a couple fill out an application for him so hopefully, I won't see him next week.

And of course, I took lots of photos for all you picture hungry people. :D

Here's Monte, a rottieX.

This is Titia. She's an older labbie. She's been there since September and certainly doesn't deserve to still be there. :(

And one of my favorites, Michaela. She was such a dream to walk.. Not a puller at all!

And my all time favorite, Keegan. He was such a riot. He refused to play in the huge yard and only wanted to knaw on the branch.

I want them all! Michaela is beautiful! I love her eyes.

I volunteered at a shelter last summer, and every week I'd tell my mom about the dogs, and how they all 'needed me to take them home'... didn't work though. lol :) It takes willpower to volunteer at an animal shelter!

Fantastic pics, Ashley! I wish I could volunteer at out local shelter, but they don't have insurance sufficient to cover non employees.

It may be best that I don't get to though. Every once in a while I have to go and pull a dog from a shelter for the rescue that I volunteer for and it just kills me to see all the sad faces. I'm so glad you can go and exercise them and spend some 'human interaction' time with them.

Dustin's my fave. ;)

They're all gorgeous! Hope they all find a good home soon:)

I wish I can volunteer at our shelter too, but I'm always busy on the weekends and I might not be old enough:( It seems like a lot of fun though.

What precious, beautiful pups:) It breaks my heart to think of them without humans to love. You can see by the look on their faces, all they want is a chance to love and be loved:) Thank you so much for giving them a few minutes of happiness each week. Prayers that each and every one of them finds their special family asap. I can't imagine why the Labbie mix has been there for almost 6 months:(

They are all look like absolutely wonderful dogs. Thank you for spending time with them. Although I could see *having* each and every one of them, Dustin gave an extra tug at my heart strings. Oh, I wish I would have one that big lottery this week. Can you imagine the good we could have done for dogs like these with that kind of cash?

For those of you who are under 18 and want to volunteer at a local shelter - you should give them a call. Some shelters have programs for youth volunteers. Sometimes they help as handlers with training classes, sometimes they help with socialization, sometimes they use youth volunteers to just sit and read to the dogs (calming methods). Some shelters do not allow youth volunteers - but many do.

It is a rewarding experience and it is so gratifying when you see these dogs go to new forever homes. (Not to mention the fact that it always looks good when you start job hunting for the first time).

Many shelters need volunteers in the evenings as well, so even if you can't do things on the weekends, you might still be able to volunteer.

Binka_nugget - great pictures!! All beautiful pups.

You should try giving your local shelters a call! Our spca said, "We have too many volunteers" and also said I was too young. Our "pound" allows anyone to volunteer. If they're under 18 (I believe), they still allow you to groom the dogs, take them in the play areas, sit in their kennels to give them some lovin' and to walk the dogs as well. The younger kids need adults with them to walk the dogs but they allow kids of all ages to volunteer. Anyways, try giving yours a call. I even know of some independant rescues that require volunteers so you could try those too!

Great Pics!!!!!!
I know lots of teenagers that volunteer at shelters...one of the things they do here is maintain the shelters' websites....you know keep updated photos and accurate descriptions of the animals on there.....and go and take pics....this works out well,as high school students are very computer literate....they can do this from home...most shelters have a digital camera but nobody to maintain the website.....
If you look at alot of shelters' websites, they are Very Slowly Updated...they need weekly maintenence....

Just a thought, but I know this is done here ALOT...And it is SOOOO Helpful!!!!!

In Love With Dustin & Buddy!!!!

They are ALL So Gorgeous!!!

Wow that sounds so great, I would love to do that! I am 16, so they might let me, I think it'd be great, except for my parents  saying that my volunteer time could be spent babysitting for money, since I cant afford anything for Jasper :p But I would love to do that!!

You'll just need to fill out a couple forms for them and attend an orientation to be an official 'dog walker' but non-volunteers are always welcome to tag along with volunteers as well. :D

Awww I remember Michaela from before the summertimes. She's still there? :(

They're all so gorgeous. I hope they all find loving homes soon.. I hate having to see them at the pound like this. Maybe you should post their pictures on your site so they can get noticed? Of course, that all depends on who surfs onto your site, lol.

Anyways great pictures! Love them all! :D

I can tell you,, ppl dont normally want to adopt an older animal,,, which I think is STUPID!!! Who is to say a puppy or a young dog wont die on you within a few yrs too?? Besides,, Many ppl who do adopt older have never regretted thier option to do so... I would take an older dog in a heartbeat....

It's supposed to be Canada's first no kill shelter.. so it's definitely good if you don't see the dogs during your next visit. :D

I'm happy to report that all the dogs have found forever homes.. including Titia!

It's in Vancouver. I think the full name is "City of Vancouver. Animal Control Shelter & Services" but it's commonly known as the "Vancouver Animal Shelter".

ahh,, Vancouver,,, I used to live on Vancouver Island,,, To the best of my knowledge,, most shelters here in Canada are no kills.... thats the way it ought to be,,, Places that keep an animal for a week and then kill them ought to be shot as far as I am concerned,,,, I do realize there is a terrible over population problem in the US,,, but man,, theres got to be an alternative out there somewhere,,, besides the obvious,,, SPAY OR NEUTER!!

Thanks for sharing the great news on the dogs....
