Thanx everyone!

Yea! Good idea having extra homes lined up. Thats how we got Allen. He was promised to someone who decided last minute not to take him... their loss, our gain!

You do realize that it is your duty to post pictures of these kittens the moment they enter the world? :D

Oh contrar! These are some of the most precious kittens that will ever be born! And if you don't believe that, wait until they're born - they'll change your mind. :D

I know others have suggested $50.00 before, and that seems quite reasonable to me. Technically, in my opinion, the reason you're charging a fee is first and foremost to make sure the kittens get a good home, where the people can afford them and all their future care. Secondly, you would want to try to recoup some of your costs for shots and such. So I think $50.00 is a very reasonable price.

Just for reference, most of the rescue cats I've seen in the Chicago area go for around $100.00.

Thanks for posting the update and keep that camera handy when those precious kittens are born. :D

I was thinking about getting them De-wormed and there kitten shots and adding up this cost and then saying it's this much.

Thanx for the compliments! I know they will be special, expesially cause they were going to be the first birth I've EVER seen and because they are Sada's. There will be more resons. :D

Sweet "little" Momma is about to BURST!!! :D Yes, if you can deworm them and get their first shots before placing them, that would give them a very healthy start! GREAT JOB, can't wait to see the babies in a couple of weeks! :)

Adding up the cost that it takes to get the kittens off to a good start and then charging that is a good way to go. This way you know that they have what they need and you are not out alot.

Happy to hear that you have some different homes to pick. I am sure that you will pick the best ones.

Great job with little Sada.:D

Like others have said we do expect pics from the begining.;)

I made the suggestion in the other thread that the cost for the kittens be the cost of the spay/neuter. That you set it up with your vet that they prepay the vet for the surgery. That way you know these kittens will be spayed/neutered and won't continue to contribute to the pet overpopulation problem.

Thats is a wonderful Idea Denyce, I'm sorry I didn't see that post :D I just called and the vet only spays/nueters cats at the age of 6 or 7 months, no younger. I might have miss-understood you though. Did you mean for me to make the apointment and "pay for it" then have them reinburse me?

You mean you want pics of the little ones when they are all icky and wet :p or an hour (or so) after birth when they are all dry ;) I told the office ladies at my school and they said that I'm crazy! Takign in a stray cat, finding out she is pregnet, and getting homes for all the kittens PLUS spaying momma when it comes time! Hee hee! :D

It's 50 dollars to get them there first shots and there first de-wormer. So that means we would also be charging 50 dollars for the kittens. Which, I think is a very resonable price, I knwo they are going to a good home and the people know they are healthy! Thanx for all the help!

Ashley, I just wanted to say how proud I am of you and your family for looking after Sada and her kits. :D

I think recouping injections, worming costs from the kittens new parents is great idea.

Maybe you can get them microchipped too and add this cost to the adoption fee, that way those kits will ALWAYS be known to be owned and not strays ?

Do you think you can slip the new owners a leaflet when they are homed about the advantages of spaying/neutering their new cat ? And the PT web address too. :D

I already have a page or two typed up on the advantages of Spaying and nutering that they can take home. I also had anothing thing that explains declawing AND on there adoption aplication (yes I made a adoption aplication :D ) it ask if any pets in the house hold are not spayed or nueterd, and if so which ones. If they answer that they already have 2 cats or even 1 dog or 1 cat who is not spayed and nuetered just because they couldn't afford it or because they havn't gotten around to it then they will NOT be getting a kitten from me.

I'll be sure to give them PT'S adress!

DON'T SAY THAT! My friends cat (I've vented about her before) is pregnet and she is giving the kittens to the SPCA. ::sigh:: If I can find enough homes, I might end up taking them and getting them there first shots/dewormer and then giving them to the homes  Sada has made me fallin in love with cats! Bad bad sada :p

Ash I really like Denyce's idea. Whoever is buying the cat will prepay the vet for the sir jury, then when the cat is of age they just take it to vet to get fixed. So the price of the pre-pay sir jury is the price of their cat. I personally fell that just charging $50 might be a little steep. Personally if I had a choice between paying $50 for a cat and then on top of that price paying to have it fixed.. I would just go to the shelter and spend $75 on a cat where all of that is already included. Now if I had met the $50 before hand and fallen in love with it, then it would be a totally different story. But if someone just said it's $50 and you have to pay to get it fixed, I'm not sure I'd pay that much. This is why I like the pre-pay sir jury idea, because then you know that they are willing to spend money on the kitty and you know that it will be fixed.

 I really need to start coming over to the cat side more often. I had no idea you had a pregnant cat with you.

I can't wait to see the little babies. :D

I see what you are saying Ubasoon. But the thing is is our shelter does NOT spay or nueter, so you will be paying 75 dollars for a cat with NO shots and who is NOT spayed or nuetered. I dunno. I will see explore my options. I do not understand the spay nueter thingy though. I'm a lil confussed? Could you explain it diffrently to me? (hee hee, I'm a lil slow :o )

Jen, I'm sending them ALL to your house ;)

Ash

ps: Do you know what I want to do when I get older? Own my own shelter, I already have a name, how I'm going to get my money, how I'm going to get my empolyees, what I want it to look like. LOL. :D Guess my dream is comeing true a lil earlier then expected! :D

I do not understand the spay nueter thingy though.

Ok Let's say you vet charges $75 to spay a kitten. Aunt Jemima wants to buy one of your kittens, instead of charging her for it Aunt Jemima pays the vet $75. So you really won't be getting a payment for the kittens, but technically you are still charging a fee since you are requiring that Aunt Jemima pays for the sir jury before she even gets to take a kitty home. Then when the kitty is old enough Aunt Jemima just has to take the kitty to the vet and since the sir jury was already paid for then she doesn't have to worry about paying for anything else. Does that make better sense?

LOL! Yea, vets will do that kind of stuff???

LOL!

Ash, if the vet doesn't already DO thaat, tell them it would be like buying a "gift certificate". They might find a way to do it then as that is a more common concept.

As for your sheter, may as well get your foot in the door early ;) I'm sure all the best executives started young. :D
