From this week on the Swiss daily newspapers "Tagblatt der Stadt Zürich", "Tages Anzeiger" and the weekly magazine "Tierwelt" will print obtuary for pets (they are all serious press).

Evething began few days ago when Tages Anzeiger printed an obtuary in which was not clear if it was a child or a cat (a photo of a cat gave the idea it was the pet of the deceased child), after many readers calling to clear it up, we came to know that it , in fact was an obtuary for a cat.

That created a polemic with the press and the public.
After a poll resulted about 60% pro and 40% contra obtuary for animals in newspapers, Tagblatt saw a niche to create obtuary specially for pets the "Abshied vom Haustier" (Pets farewell) photo of the pet inclusive, and was followed by Tages Anzeiger and the weekly magazine Tierwelt.

I thing others will adere to this idea.

Togh there are many home pages with this subject (Rainbow Bridge), I thing it is a great idea.

Canis Amicus, Welcome to Pet Talk!!! I like to beleive in the Rainbow Bridge, I think it is a great idea. I don't think I have ever seen an a listing in the newspapers for people's pets who have died. Our Pets are our family. :)
I just really wanted to Welcome you to Pet Talk. I hope you will post pictures of your pets and tell us about them. I live in California, I have three "mini" Doxies. All boys, Oskar (red) and Macs (brown and black) are almost 9 yrs. old. My baby, Mr.T (black and tan) is almost 2. They are little characters. Never a dull moment at my house!! :D
Again.... WELCOME!
:)

Thanks Linda, for the warm wellcome.

Untill now I never heard of this too, maybe this subject suits better as a poll, and as animal lover i am sure that will be 100% yes to the answer if that should be done for a pet.

i was really surprised by the great number of nay-sayers here in Zurich, because according to the Swiss Law dogs (and cats) are family members, and there are lots of professinals specialists on dogs: since the vet, acumpucturists, massagists, Lawers and last but not least a political party: Hundepartei (Dog Party) only to name a few.

At the moment i have no dog, but i am looking for one (or two)to join my walkings of 1 to 1/2 hours (when i lived with my husband he had 1 Rottie and 1 Lab, both female), and i miss the dogs more them the man LOL).

Thanks for your kindness.

Wow! That makes me want to move to Switzerland! My father's family was Swiss, so I'd be right at home!

LOL at missing the dogs more than your ex husband. I have an ex like that, too!

BTW - Welcome to Pet Talk!

Good luck to you in finding a dog (or two)!! :D
You ARE a walker!!! The dog you find will be very lucky. Dogs love to go on walks. My daughter has two black labs, they are just the greatest. Big loveable boys. I'm sorry you have to miss your two. :(
Here is one of my favorite sayings: "The more I know people..... the more I love my dog".
I know what you mean, you miss the dogs more than the man!!! lol
My mother-in-law visits Zurich alot, she has friends that live there. Her name is Ursalla (sp?) I have seen alot of pictures. VERY beautiful.
Well, keep posting and let us in on the good news when you find your dog (s). :D
Take care.
