I don't mean to be a pest by reminding everyone, but I mentioned it at work today and two of the girls were so glad I did. I have a tape in the VCR right now because unfortunately I won't be home. Actually it might be better because then I can fast forward through the commercials! :D

You mean I have to wait until tomorrow for the sporting group???:(;) I'll just have to root for my friend's tonight! Go Poodles, Shibas, Spotties and all of the other fabulous fidos!:D Does anyone remember that they used to show the best of all the breeds in the afternoons, before the best of group and show? It was great seeing all of the competitors in one breed compete against each other! I wish they still did that!

Well I managed to see 2 out of the 3 hours and taped the whole thing so I'll watch the rest later on. I took a few photos during the show and thought I'd share them with everyone. Bella was really enjoying it early on.

By the time the black mini poodle came on she was losing interest and she said it was just a fluffed up Ripley anyway. :p

Great Pics, Pam! You had me smiling :)

You tell Bella that I think she is much prettier than that Standard Poodle that won. I don't like all that fluffiness. You have my vote Bella! You are the prettiest poodle ever! Oops, I should say Standard Poodle because I don't want to exclude Ripley! ;)

oh my this poor poor dog, if this is not over angulated I dont know what is, you have no idea how sorry I feel for this dog

http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/2004/photos/group/DL83251205.jpg

and look at the HQ on this dog! the breeds is supposed to be able to run fast, those HQs are so horrid that I am suprised it can move at all!

http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/2004/photos/breed/HM86131803.jpg

and look at this poor poor lab? that dog should be relaxing by a fire place not dragged off to shows! I mean honestly that dog would drown if placed in water!

http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/2004/photos/breed/SN77628201.jpg

and to think that these people control dogs :(

lovemyshiba
02-10-2004, 10:37 PM
I'm sorry that you feel that way Cali, but these people are professionals that handle, breed, and own these dogs. I'm sure if there was some form of abuse or neglect going on there, someone would speak up--it's not exactly an underground event.

There is a standard the breeds are to meet in these shows, and obviously the lab met them, and is not overweight, or it would have been disqualified.

Sorry they weren't all perfect border collies like you have.

Maybe you should come to New York and judge next year.

I thought the rottie was so sweet!! But the NF dog was nice, we have such a beautiful dog named after our province :D

cali
02-10-2004, 10:55 PM
who said my border collies were perfect? my border collies are real border collies not barbie cr*p thats all. by the way I really dont care if the dogs met the standerds because breeds standerds are a load of bull. I care about structer yes, but by structur I mean a structure that gives them the ability to work which is completly removed in these dogs. you expect a gerban sheperd that can barly move to be able to herd? do expect a greyhound with those horrid HQs to be able to run fast and hunt? that lab would drown in water etc.. show structure mean squat. and yes please fly me out to judge! I will see to it that the REAL breeds win. ;)

lovemyshiba
02-10-2004, 11:22 PM
The dogs in this show are there for a reason--to show.

Do you honestly think that Greyhound would have won best of breed or whatever if it was sickly or too thin?

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Cheshirekatt

I do have to just put in my two cents worth.

I do think that the AKC breed standards are detrimental to a couple of breeds. German Shepards come to mind first.

Those low sloping back ends can cause all kinds of trouble for them. A lot of the Shepards purchased for police work come from Germany becuase the US ones are too suseptable to hip problems. It seems to be more suited to the show ring than to actual work.

Basically it seems to me that certain styles go in and out to a extent.

It's always been my belief that an AKC show standard often looks very different than a successful working dog of the same breed. These show dogs are supposed to be pretty.

Ok, I've rambled enough....but JMHO.

:D
