Catcrazylady requested to hear Abner's story so by request here it is.
While I can not give you the exact date that Abner came into my life I can tell you that he showed up, following Tyler, the neighborhood dog. Tyler lived up the road from our house and was always wandering the street and yards. She had been hit by a car and her owners really did not take care of her, so when she would come to my house she would get a doggie biscuit. Well, one day, right after the September 11th attacks, Tyler came running into the yard....well when I went to give her the biscuit, Abner was striding right behind her. I figured he belonged to Tyler's owners, but when Tyler left, Abner did not leave and go with her. I really think Tyler told Abner about all the treats that she gets from me.
Abner was friendly right from the start, so I got some food, prepared the spare dog house that I used for stray kitties, and called my husband right away to see if I could keep him. Hubby said "NO", so I actually tried several of my friends and family to see if I could find him a home. Thank God everyone said "NO" they did not want him.
Abner stayed outside for 2 days, and then when I would come home from work I would hold the door to the house open long enough for him to come inside the house without my help. Abner stayed in the house until I went to bed, and then when hubby came home at midnight, Abner knew to just walk right into the house. Actually the first night Abner walked in after my husband came home, my husband woke me up saying "The cat followed me into the house, did you teach him that?" I played dumb...not me.
The rest is history....he has been with me ever since. He is my little boy. Abbey (as he is affectionately called) is 2 years old and the light of my life. There is just something very special about him. While all of my fur kids are loved beyond reason, Abbey holds a special place in my heart.
Here are some of my favorite photos.
