Why are you "invisible"?

I have noticed that a lot of members are always "invisible" and I have wondered why. Sometimes, more members are "invisible" than not. I have been in "invisible" mode myself a few times, and the reason has been that I was too tired, busy, or not in the mood to reply, or answer any PM's. Another reason could be that some are logged on from work and it's easier that way. No offence, I'm just curious. :)

At the moment 12 are visible - out of 29 members.

when I took my month long time out from pet talk in december I went to invisable mode so that when I didn't answer PM'S no one got mad. But I'm visable now!

I am invisible, because if you go way to the bottom of the page, you can go to "forum jump", then to "Who's Online", and other members can see what threads you are reading, if you are changing your profile, writting/reading PM's, etc. I feel it is a little nosy, and I want to be invisible. Once in a blue moon, I am not invisible.

Go to User CP, Edit Options and the first one listed is Invisible Mode.

I started in the invisible mode a while back when I had my feelings hurt and did not want to post. BUT I could not help reading!!! hee hee ... but I did not want to give anyone the "satisfaction" of knowing that I was lurking. (childish, I admit....but sometimes I am just like that. :o ) I never changed back.

I went invisible after someone pissed me off and sent me some nasty PM's. This way they didn't see me on line and give her the satafaction of knowing that I got her silly PM's. Sense I wasn't go to answer her back and play her silly childish games.

Not that she couldn't see that I was here when I posted ....Duhhhh. :o So I wasn't think.

Now I just stay that way even though, she long left PT, It still gives me that time to answer a PM later if I can't get to it right away. I don't want any one to say I was online but didn't get back to them, thinking I'm being rudd. I hate to have anyone think bad of me, It's just somedays you don't have time to do everything.

You can check to see if your messages are read. Doesn't matter if they are invisible or not. Just have to go to message tracking

Well sense we going to be completly honest, I do the same thing. Alot of times, I have PT opened up in one window while I'm surfing in another window. It nice sometime, while I'm waiting for another site to load etc, I can come read here. Like right now. ;)

I was invisible for a while because I realized how much I was online and lurking... I felt like people were thinking "geesh, she is always online! doesn't she have any kind of life?" I was kinda embarassed at that.

For heavens sake - this is PET TALK!! You don't have to feel embaressed to be online. We're all PT addicts, more or less. ;) :D I'm online all day long, but it doesn't mean I'm here all the time - I come and go, and I'm doing other things on my computer too, but keep PT open.

In general, I think it's only polite to "show your face" when you're on, but I DO understand some have their reasons not to be.

Also, you may want to send someone a PM, but when you see they're "offline" you tend to wait, or not send it at all.

If anyone have problems with getting nasty PM's, you can always contact Karen or Paul. :)

Another reason, I was online here and I decided I would go look at another page, the food channel network to see what kind of recipes they had, you know to see if they had any good chocolate recipes. They did! When I switched back over to this page, all hell broke lose, I mean I was looking at my task bar and it was filling very, very fast with popups. I watched it, 23, 24, 25, all the way up to about 33 and I started closing and they were poping like popcorn, and I was still closing. I couldn't close fast enough and finally the numbers started going down. That will teach me to just stay here where I am safe....:confused:

I feel about invisible as I do about unlisted phone numbers. I'm just not that interesting (also unlisted numbers cost money and I am cheap!) I have NEVER had an unlisted number. Are you talking about the Biltmore estate in North Carolina? I have been there. It is beautiful! What a pool in that place, and the indoor garden, but you should have seen the servants quarters. I stay invisible. I just don't like people knowing what I'm doing or reading. I don't keep my cell phone on a lot of the time because of that too....kind of wierd, I guess. :)
