Oh boy a NASCAR thread. This just may bring my son out of the woodwork. He registered a while ago but rarely posts. This is a little jacket that he bought my Ripley. Can someone say BOBBY LABONTE!!!!!!!!!!!http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid65/p6a849f028f1aca7f9278343736537fda/fbe8d19e.jpg
My son-in-law is a huge fan of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He and my daughter (she is a PTer) even named their Swiss Mountain Dog puppy Dale. He even wears a Dale, Jr. collar too and here it is. ;) I had actually posted this picture in another thread for another reason.

I usually avoid the dog house but I have a house full of Nascar fans and it looks like Richard needs a little help so here I go...
For those who don't know who Mark Martin is, click on the link.
Mark Martin (http://www.nascar.com/drivers/dps/mmartin00/cup/index.html)
He is the favorite driver of one of my sons and he is a good role model for kids unlike most athletes today.
When my son was 5 and went to his first Nascar race in NH he saw Mark Martin leaving the parking lot after the race and he waved at him and Mark waved back! What a nice guy!
Of course my son was wearing his #6 Valvoline shirt at the time.
Now I really wish that Mark would get a different sponser other than Viagra because I just won't let my kid wear a shirt with that on it.

I'll also be cheering for Matt Kenseth and Kurt Busch. Basically I'm a Roush racing fan. I actually seem to like all the drivers except one...Jimmy Spencer! Yuck! Can't stand him! Everytime Martin comes up around him I'm always hollering "Hurry up, get away from him". I feel like he is always just one big accident...lol.

I think the reason that NASCAR is picking up ground on the other sports is that we all do not have the time to throw a pass, shoot a puck, basketball.....

But MOST OF US DRIVE!

I always make a pass on the freeway, down shift in a turn, make that 'pit spot' as the gas station and just for a few seconds.....

I am a race car driver...I am Mark Martin, I drive a Rousch car, truck......I am at the Brickyard, Charlotteville, Daytona-

It's a half mile, mile or road track---

It hanging on in a turn or thinking ahead to make that lane change in traffic.....It's monday morning and you still have the stink of champagne on your clothes from 'your' win yesterday when you get out of your car ar work or school.......

It's NASCAR!!

Spencer: They bombed Pearl Harbor
Associated Press

NASCAR will not penalize driver Jimmy Spencer for a remark about the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor or his hope that Toyota's venture into truck racing will be a failure.

"That's Jimmy Spencer," NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said Sunday when asked about comments the outspoken driver made last week about Toyota's entry into Craftsman Truck competition.

They "bombed Pearl Harbor, don't forget," the San Antonio Express-News quoted the 46-year-old driver as saying during media day at Texas Motor Speedway.

"As long as it's good for the economy, I guess it's OK," said Spencer, who added that he was rooting for Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge to humiliate Toyota.

The Associated Press was unable to reach Spencer for comment Sunday night. Toyota officials did not return calls from the AP.

Although Hunter said Spencer is not in any trouble with the sanctioning body, he emphasized that NASCAR does not share the driver's opinion.

"He sometimes has a view of the world that is not consistent with the rest of the world and he is certainly known for putting his opinions out there," Hunter said.

Toyota's entry this year marks the first time a foreign-headquartered manufacturer will compete in any of the top three NASCAR series. Toyota is racing against the three American manufacturers with its new Tundra pickup trucks.

"Toyotas are now made in the USA and they met all the criteria to compete in the truck series," Hunter said. "And actually, we think it is going to add at least four new teams and it's going to add excitement to the truck series."

Toyota, which had success in a brief and low-key run in NASCAR's now-defunct Goody's Dash compact car series, has put together a four-team, seven-truck fleet to compete this year on the Craftsman circuit. Its first race will be Feb. 13 at Daytona International Speedway.

Spencer won a truck race in New Hampshire last season in a Dodge. He lost the primary sponsorship for his Cup program at the end of the year, but plans to race in the season-opening Daytona 500 and at least four other events while seeking new backing.

A 15-year NASCAR veteran with two career victories in what now is the Nextel Cup series, Spencer has been in some trouble with the sanctioning body. A long-running feud with Kurt Busch boiled over last August at Michigan International Speedway, with Spencer punching Busch in the face in the garage area after the two bumped and banged on the track late in a race.

Spencer was fined and suspended for one race weekend and Busch was fined.

great race last night.....

altho I do have a problem with the 'shootout' style of races at the beginning of the season.....

THe kind of crash at the end of that race is not worth getting a driver hurt at the start.....I live the close sprint style of races, but cringe at the thought of injuries...

Not a good day for Roush racing though. I think it was 2 engines blown within 25 laps of each other. Something happened to Busch and Biffle got penalized but Kenseth did make into the top ten. I think?....lol

I'm pretty happy this week. Kenseth took the checkered flag and Martin finished 12th which I didn't think was too bad for a beat up car. who needs NASCAR?????

This past weekend they brought a new kind of racing to Irwindale raceway....It was fast, fun and a screaming hoot!

It's called D1GP- and the Japanese drivers are the absolute best..

A small description?? Take a car and slide it, tires screaming, smoke rising, around a track..

It's part rally, part midget racing...all balance, style, control and just plain crazy.

It's gotta be the most fun I have seen since I left the theater after seeing "Days of Thunder".....

Tony was penalized for spinning scott wimmer. Hopefully McMurray will get some points stripped for spinning Kenseth AFTER the race, and maybe, just maybe, NASCAR will penalize Jr the two laps the tire change would have cost him if he had pitted under green instead of spinning himself out on the track and causing a caution. (But as a long time Mark Martin fan I'm not holding my breath until NASCAR is consistent applying the rulebook)

Thanks for explaining why Tony was penalized.

I agree something should happen to McMurry. When Tony spun Jeff gordan on Pit road after a race two years ago he was placed on probation and evntually had to go to anger management classes (course he did a few other things too), but still, something should be done.

I Also think Jr's move was dirty...but that is sorta the Earnhardt way!

Subtracting points is a good idea..I can't remember it happening before.

Lady's Human
03-30-2004, 12:50 PM
They fined Martin 45 points and $50,000 for havig a carbeurator spacer that was technically illegal but functionally legal handing Earnhardt the championship in 91 or 92.

They fined Martin 25 points 2 years ago for having a spring in his car that was functionally legal but technically illegal.

They fined Stewart and put him on probation for spinning gordon 3 years ago.

BUT........

Jr has a car that is 1/4" too low on an aero track and they just fine him and let him keep the win........is there a trend here?

Since this is where the Nascar freaks hang out, I have a question for you all. ;)

Besides Tony Stewart, which Nascar driver is from Indiana? And what are his "colors?" As an example, I would say Tony Stewarts "colors" were orange because of the Home Depot thing.

Just curious......;) :p :D

LOLOL,

Of course, the France Family has to keep the scnadals down to a minimum.

"Cheating is o.k., until you get caught...."

(And the JR. wins at daytona seemed to be a little gratuitous....)

Thanks for the info! ;)

Ok, ok, Nascar "fanatics." Is that better? ;)

Thanks, Ryan Newman it is! Ok, now for the rest of the story, which you guys probably don't care about anyway....

On Friday we toured the American Coach factory where our motorhome was made in Decatur, IN. The highest end coach they offer is a Heritage - 45' long, tag axle, extremely high end components throughout, new "average" ones go for around $700,000.00. Needless to say they don't make too many of these, and Terry drools profusely everytime he sees one. Well, there was one on the line as we toured the factory. It was almost done and was in the final buffing stage in the paint booth. The reason I asked the "colors" of the driver is because this coach was basically white with some blue and black graphics. When I saw Ryan Newman's car, I knew immediately it was his! Oh, and the only thing the tour guide would tell us is it belonged to "an Indiana Nascar driver."

So there you go. Ryan Newman hangs out in an American Heritage while he's at the track - cool! :) Maybe he'll want to get rid of it in about 5 years and Terry can buy it for a measly $300,000.00!  NOT!!! ;) :D

Thanks for the info and sorry for the extended explanation....:)

Well someone had mentioned Jeff Gordon because I guess he was born somewhere else but now lives in Indiana? And I thought he might be it because he does have blue on his car too (I think), but when I saw Ryan Newman's car, I knew it was him. The paint scheme is as similar as you can get transferrring from a 12' or so car to a 45' motorhome. It was even the same shade of blue! :D

Not only was this a big day for Mark Martin but was for my son and son-in-law as well. They got to be on TV in a few of the Victory Lane shots standing right behind Mark Martin. They were in the group wearing the MBNA hats and shirts and had been working Dover for the entire weekend. And across the pond, on the racing circuit....

Cora Schumacher criticised after race debut

Cora Schumacher has been told her boob job isn't doing her any favours in the world of female motorsport.

The remarks came from former racing driver Ellen Lohr, who now works as a commentator for a television channel.

The 27-year-old wife of Formula 1 star Ralf, came 13th and 18th in two Mini Cooper races at the weekend, says Bild.

But Lohr says her attempts at driving aren't doing the sport any good.

"No real driver would take an additional twice 400 grams of extra weight along in the car", she said hinting at Cora's breasts.

"She's not a pro, she has no experience. If she gets into a crash, her breasts might burst. I don't know if that's what she wants," added Lohr.

I think that Ms. Lohr is a little jealous!!

Think of the sponsorships....

Okay, I admit I am a Tony fan, but I also admit Tony has a bad temper.

That being said, I didn't see that he obviously did anything to try and put Kasey in the wall. He says Kasey slowed down, Kasey says no. The truth? Who knows. But when that many drivers are running that close, there is always a little bumping. That's racing folks. I have seen many others put someone into the wall much more obviously and there hasn't been the controversy...Dale Sr made a living of it and Gordon has done it too. I don't think it would have gotten near the reaction is say Michael Waltrip bummed Kasey. JMHO

On another note, I went to the truck series race in Kentucky Saturday night. It was awesome!! I'll try and upload picctures tonight...

Lady's Human
07-12-2004, 08:28 PM
There was more than "a little bumping" from Stewart. The nose of Stewarts car was under Kahne's rear bumper for (in racinig terms, anyway) a long time, and Stewart made no effort to slow down at all. Given NASCAR's continued inconsitency lately, I doubt Stewart will even get a call from helton about it, never mind a suspension.

On an up note, DAMN Mark was fast (until the engine blew), and watching a race without DW's inane comments was a true pleasure.
