Please explain what goes through a teenager's mind!

We had about 4-6" of snow yesterday morning, but the kids still had school after a 2 hour delay. What does my 15 year old daughter wear to school? A mini (very mini) skirt, no stockings or tights, and a pair of tennis shoes! Does she think its spring?

I'll tell you why she did this - she was in a soccer game Sunday and someone dove their cleats into her and caused a bruise on her whole thigh - nice and green, blue, purple & red! She wanted to show it off to everybody!

Bruise or no bruise - she should have enough common sense to wear pants - or at the very least winter weight nylons! She had opportunity to show it off at gym or during soccer practice with her school team!

So, all of you teens on here - would you do the same thng?
All of you parents with teens - would you roll your eyes like I did?
And somehwere along the line, would someone kindly explain the teenage mentality? :D

I can understand you, but...

My boss was almost upset with me last Friday when during a snowstorm I was not wearing anything on my head.

Well, I had a teen (she is now 28) and fortunately never had the "pleasure". If it were ME, I would've rolled my eyes like you did, then told her to go put something more sensible on. But again, that's ME.

On the other hand she may wear a heavy sweater in August just because she thinks it looks cool;)

I have a friend at work, who has a 16 year old daughter, who wore something very similar to that to school just last week!!!!
I see that you are in Reading, and I'm in State College, so the weather must be similar!!!
Crazy girls!!!!
On the other hand, my sister, who is also 16, is smart. She wears whatever is comfortable to school. I didn't do that when I was in high school either, had to "dress up" all the time:rolleyes:

I learned when I went to college that comfort (and warmth) was what counted!!!!

I do see a lot of these younger sorority girl types walking around Penn State's campus in skirts in the winter too---amazing!!!!!

I'm a teen, and there's NO WAY i'd wear a skirt in cold weather!!!

It's in the 40's here sometimes, 30's are really low for us.
I wear sweatshirts, pants and thick socks!

Well..........there are several girls that I know who WOULD do something like that...........in fact, they do...., but I for one would NEVER wear something I would *freeze* in when its cold! My brother is like that though. 40 degrees outside, and he goes out with a thin t-shirt and no jacket!! He's 21...........you'd think he'd know better than that by now, but nope! :p He just went to university with light clothing that should be worn in the summer. My mom asked him "When are you going to wear those warm shirts you bought last month...........I mean, if you aren't wearing them on a cold winter day???" He responded "In July!" Some young people are just plain wierd. :p While I love my brother, I can't understand why he wants to freeze himself!! LOL

I'm an adult, and I still do that crap. lol. Sometimes you gotta suffer to look good. ;) hehe.

You should see when we go to Lake Tahoe. It's snowy and cold, but you can't go to casinos and clubs all bundled up! Nor do you want to carry a bunch of jackets and scarfs around. We run all around Tahoe in next to nothing. lol.

I see kids dressed like that all the time.

I'm sure I did it, too, when I was that age. ;)

My son NEVER wears a coat, unless I force him to - even then sometimes I know he takes if off and carries it. And, we live in Wyoming, it is below zero much of the time, and he has to ride the bus.

What can you do? Eventually their brains will expand to catch up with their bodies .... we hope.

Why? Probably for the same reason I wore wool shorts with knee socks (the fashion) in the wintertime in northern Illinois. 30 years ago. I was cold but fashionable.

And BTW...we could NOT wear pants to school...public school. Dresses and skirts only.

I find it absolutely hysterical when the kids come to school (this morning it was 8 F) in shorts and tank tops (which they're not supposed to wear) and tennis shoes with no socks and complain how cold my room is....I just laugh at them and tell them to deal with it, they're the ones that chose to dress like it was 80.

But then, I LOVE to embarrass the boys when they wear their pants around their knees....

He he he! my husband is a 6th grade teacher and has the same problem! He says he sees more cleavage in school than anywhere else! And this is a school with a "Dress Code" He of course can't say anything about the girls buttoning up since he's a male teacher (threats of being sexually harassed would be made) so I asked him if he needs me to come in one day and make the comments for him!

I should have mentioned that my daughter has not worn a skirt to school since she was 10! I know she wanted to show off her fabulous bruise, but seriously, it was cold! I have a tom-boy daughter who borrowed her preppy sisters clothes for the day! Is a bruise that cool to show off?

Crazy isn't it? apparently some teens don't feel the cold , so I am told, my daughter's friend is like that, she goes around in halftops in the middle of winter (Granted we don't get snow) but it's still cold, and then on a hot summer day she will be wearing jeans, CRAZY, I guess my girl would do it too, but I DON'T let her, mind you she is only 11, at 15 things might be quite different.

As soon as its officially summer, the young ones are out in their skimpy tops and skirts, even if it is still freezing. Oh to be young and carefree again, I WISH!!!!!!!!!:)
