Hope Carole doesn't mind!! I just thought we would start a thread where we post all our silly riddles.

Here's mine:

A woman has 7 children, half of them are boys.
How can this be possible?

AND

Three friends check into a motel for the night and the clerk tells them the bill is $30, payable in advance. So, they each pay the clerk $10 and go to their room. A few minutes later, the clerk realizes he has made an error and overcharged the trio by $5. He asks the bellhop to return $5 to the 3 friends who had just checked in. The bellhop sees this as an opportunity to make $2 as he reasons that the three friends would have a tough time dividing $5 evenly among them; so he decides to tell them that the clerk made a mistake of only $3, giving a dollar back to each of the friends. He pockets the leftover $2 and goes home for the day! Now, each of the three friends gets a dollar back, thus they each paid $9 for the room which is a total of $27 for the night. We know the bellhop pocketed $2 and adding that to the $27, you get $29, not $30 which was originally spent. Where did the other dollar go????

Well it shouldn't be $27 + 2. They actually only paid $25 for the room, the bellhop kept $2 and they got $3 so $25 + $2 + $3 is $30.

Yep. They said that the way they wrote it, they added and subtracted in the wrong order, purposely screwing you up.

Cookiebaker

Let me see if I got this:

You can't add the $2 that the bellhop dude got to the $27 that the boys paid, you subtract it. The room cost $25 = $27 paid by the boys -minus- $2 involuntary tip.

-or-

you can look at it that they paid $30 -minus- $3 boys pocketed -minus- $2 bellhop pocketed = $25 hotel got.

Edit: -whoops- you guys replied while I was thinking out my answer :o

Here is a new riddle.
If, having only one match, on a freezing winter day, you entered a room which contained a lamp, a kerosene heater, and a wood burning stove, which should you light first.

I have some!

Riddle one: How many letters are in the alphabet?

Riddle Two: A boy was at a carnival and went to a booth where a man said to the boy, "If I write your exact weight on this piece of paper then you have to give me $50, but if I cannot, I will pay you $50."

The boy looked around and saw no scale so he agrees, thinking no matter what the carny writes he'll just say he weighs more or less.

In the end the boy ended up paying the man $50. How did the man win the bet?

Hope you dont mind Meg, or anyone else :o

*EDIT* Erm, dont mind this, i think it's someone elses turn, lol :o

Uabassoon
01-22-2004, 05:39 PM
OK I just had to add one more. This is one of my favorite riddles.

"Think of words ending in -GRY. Angry and hungry are two of them. There are only three words in the English language. What is the third word? The word is something that everyone uses every day. If you have listened carefully, I have already told you what it is."

Cookiebaker
01-22-2004, 05:39 PM

George, Helen, and Steve are drinking coffee.

Uabassoon
01-22-2004, 06:17 PM
coffee?

Yup, this was more of a logic question than a riddle. All the people who had two E's in their name were drinking coffee, so that means Elizabeth will drink coffee.

01-22-2004, 06:18 PM
Yay! lol, I just guessed:o:D
