Facts on Figures : There are 3 billion women who don't look like super models and only eight who do.

Marilyn Monroe wore a size 14.

If Barbie was a real woman, she'd have to walk on all fours due to her proportions.

The average woman weighs 144 lb. and wears between a 12-14.

One out of every four college aged women has an eating disorder.

The models in the magazines are airbrushed -- not perfect!

A psychological study in 1995 found that three minutes spent looking at a fashion magazine caused 70% of women to feel depressed, guilty, and shameful.

Models twenty years ago weighed 8% less than the average woman.
Today they weigh 23% less.

~Beauty of a Woman~
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears,
The figure she carries, or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen from her eyes,
Because that is the doorway to her heart,
The place where love reside!
The beauty of a woman Is not in a facial mole,
But true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.
It is the caring that she lovingly gives,
The passion that she shows.
The beauty of a woman
With passing years -- only grows.

The Images of Mother
4 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mommy can do anything!
8 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!
12 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.
14 YEARS OF A! GE ~ Naturally, Mother doesn't know that, either.
16 YEARS OF AGE ~ Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned.
18 YEARS OF AGE ~ That old woman? She's way out of date!
25 YEARS OF AGE ~ Well, she might know a little bit about it.
35 YEARS OF AGE ~ Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion.
45 YEARS OF AGE ~ Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?
65 YEARS OF AGE ~ Wish I could talk it over with Mom.

Hehe, I'm gonna quote my own self. I just love that one! I have this mental image of all those pretty skinny blonds in hollywood crawling around on all fours when the cameras are off.

Thanks Tonya. I think it's awful the way everybody here thinks they are so ugly. No wonder the costmetic industry is doing such a bang up business!

I don't know why everyone thinks they are ugly. I really honestly don't know an ugly looking person. Some people I know are pretty ugly inside, but that's a different story.

So all of you out there - GET OVER IT! YOU ARE SOME OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE I KNOW - AND DON'T YOU EVER FORGET IT!!!!

There, glad I got that out of my system. :D

I have seen that or some of that before, but it is always really nice to see it again. So many women, including myself, have insecurities about their looks or things they wish they could change, and sadly that is promoted from a very young age by Hollywood and toys like Barbie. It couldn't have hurt to make Barbie have realistic proportions

Sorry, but all Corvettes are plastic. Corvetters themselves call them plastic cars. They're actually fiberglass. The frame, of course is steel, but the body is all fiberglass - and some plastic (bumpers, etc.) Sooooo, so much for not having a plastic Corvette. ;) :D

And ditto, Tonya - what you said about Slick. I've seen you Slick (video with Bassett) and I really don't know why you're afraid to show your face. So you don't have the face of Barbie, at least yours is real and not some plasticized, surgeryized, fake sort of face. It's you and we'll love it because we love you! :D

(Gee, if that doesn't get her to post I don't know what will) ;) :D

Tonya and Debbie...thank you for your kind words....they mean so much to me. now QUIT IT!! I don't feel like having a crying session tonight......:(

I'm sure there will be plenty of pictures taken at the BBQ in July and IF they turn out OK I just might let Gini post them.

Tray: we've seen a picture of that hunk-a-man Richard  Just search for a thread from the the BBQ last year.

Gee I guess I started this discussion so now I can end it. Let's get back to the subject at hand.

Smaller cars give me the heebie-geebies. I've been driving an SUV for about 10 yrs and I'm never going back. Corvettes and other sports cars are so small that if you get smucked, YOU get smucked. At least with a truck (well, I like to call it a truck :D) you've got something there between you and the other guy.

Tonya
01-22-2004, 09:48 PM
No crying, Slick! Crying is for those sissy super models. lol. I agree with you...I drive a truck and I feel much better in it. I have a little more confidence that I won't get smushed. :D

I don't know, I grew up playing with Barbie. I watch tv and movies and I read magazines.
And I still manage to know the difference between a real person and a toy. I understand that movie stars and models get paid to look that way and it is their job. My job is to sit at a desk and design brochures. If my job was to be stick thin, then that is what I'd do. I may be cold, but I have absolutely no sympathy for a grown woman who gets sad looking at a magazine model. It's just plain silliness. That kind of problem is a product of poor self esteen, not a product of the magazine or the model.

Instead, I'm a real person who eats what she likes within reason, works out regularly and runs 30 miles per week for her health. Keeping thin and healthy is important to me because of me, not because of a doll or a model.

Sizes have changed. By today's standards, Marilyn would've been a 4.

She does the lawyer series and also made Men In Black II.....I saw a picture of her on a magazine.

That chick has a serious eating problem...

I shudder to think that she thinks she looks good by being that skinny.......

:D ;)

Magazine publishers only put out magazines with skinny models on the front *because we buy them*. The celebrity diet covers are the ones that sell the most copies. If publishers are exploiting our poor self esteems, it's no one's fault but our own, unfortunately.

PS I have a car that fits me, two stinky sausage dogs and just fits Shane and my purse :) I think if I drove an SUV, I'd sideswipe every panel before even leaving the car park!!!

Hey, I wore a Tu-Tu like that when I was 10 yrs old in ballet......mind you I actually looked cute ;)

My idols: Jann Arden, Momma Cass (RIP) and all the other "large" artists out there. Along with their outstanding talent, they have (had) the confidence to follow their dreams in spite of their size. God I wish I could be like that.

Slick, while I applaud you for not being sizist, I think it is just as unhealthy you list these people as "Idols."

Let's be honest. Mama Cass died of obesity related heart disease (not the reported ham sandwich choke.) She was 5'5" and 238 pounds- twice the normal weight for a woman her height. Obesity is just as unhealthy as anorexia.

I disagree with the idea that we should look up to people who are overweight just because they are overweight. Like her for her music if you want, but her body type is nothing to idolize. It is just as deadly, if not moreso, than Laura Flynn Boyle's weight.

Obesity is an epidemic in the United States because we are becoming a lazy fast food society. This kind of body is not the norm worldwide and it is a MAJOR killer of Americans every year. So no, I don't think we should idolize anyone because they have a deadly eating disorder.

I don't look up to these people just because they are overweight. I do love their music, but more than that, they did not let their weight get in the way of doing what they wanted to do. Confidence, that's what I admire in them.

Tonya

I look up to people in Hollywood who don't have to get liposuction, breast implants, botox, collagen, etc... I find a woman in Hollywood much more beautiful when they have a few flaws. It shows that they are confident and woman enough to love themselves just how they are.

I understand now. That makes perfect sense. I'm sorry I misunderstood your post.

But I'd probably admire them more if they tried to do something to make themselves healthy role models along with making great music.

When Ruben Studdard won American Idol, there was actually a gal on our radio here saying she was glad the overweight guy won because he is the idol of real Americans- and she was clear it was because of his size. That is not the example we need to set for young people.

You look at tv peole like Jennifer Garner- the gal on Alias. That girl works so hard for what she's got. She's a healthy, lovely size, very very strong, and she eats like crazy. If I had to choose one- she's the one I'd pick to idolize.
