I had to do the dirty deed this morning of washing out his ears!! He gets a real heavy wax build up and I wash his ears out with this stuff from the vet for ear mites and wax removal. He starts scratching at them and I know it is time to do it again. He HATES it!!
I take him to the bathroom (torture chamber) and close the door. I pin him in the corner and the fight is on!! I did pretty good this time because I am only slightly bleeding from only two very small pucture wounds!!!http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/biggrin.gif But now he is mad at me. He is sulking and won't look at me.

So to make peace I decided to fix his favorite treat for my lunch. He LOVES chicken flavor cup-a-soup noodles. So we shared a cup-a-soup and all is well now.http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/wink.gif

Ah yes. EAr cleaning. I do that with Bastet too. My sympathies. I cleaned her ears out last night. I literally have to sit on her to clean them but she gets turkey if she doesn't claw me too much.

ROFLOL!!! That was funny Jen!!!
If Leroy was human he would be one of those people that wouldn't give hoot what anyone thought about him as long as he was happy!! Even with all his antics he is very loving so I guess we could all learn something from him.
You know, like....stay out of the fridge, don't sleep on platters, stuff like that.:D :D http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/biggrin.gif

I'm so glad to read that you guys have to clean certain cat's ears. I've never had to clean Ripleys and I've had him almost 12 years but now that I have Scout her's are always dirty. I thought it was because she had ear mites when I first got her back in July but I've had the vet treat and clean her ears twice and I know the mites are gone. Still her ears are dirty. Why is that? Are some cats just prone to have dirty ears with no parasite or medical reason. I was beginning to think she has a problem.

So any suggestions on how to best clean them. Actually it's just her right ear that is always gunky looking.

I just use a cotton ball and warm water. Nothing special. I usually clip his nails first, then do the ears, and of course, give treats afterwards so that he knows it's not entirely unpleasant..

Great pics.:D I can also relate to the dreaded ear cleaning. I had to clean my RB Pepper's ears weekly and now I have to clean out Sky's right ear several times a week. He hates it and fights me all the way. Hopefully in time the dirty ear problem will go away like it did in Sunny.

It's good to know that Chicken Noodle soup works wonders.:)

Aaawww Leroy, you've taken my heart over completely...he's darn cute!!!

I have a favourite cartoons series called "Mutts" by Partick McDonnel and his main character Mooch the Cat is crazy for "chicky shnoodle soup" as well...

To Leroy from Checkers:

"Oooh, Leroy, I feel for you. Remember, earmites don't last forever so be a good boy for your momma and don't scratch her too bad... the ears will feel so much better when they don't itch. But be thankful for those yummy noodles!"

Checkers had earmites when I first got him. For cleaning and medicating we always wore leather jackets and gloves, used a towel which generally didn't stay on him, and did it on the snackbar to "encourage" him to learn to stay of it:p Followed up with jack mackeral to soothe his very injured feelings!

Resorting to bribery now???

Pouncer had a slight case of earmites when we got him. Allen took it upon himself to be the official ear cleaner and cleans Pouncer's ears every day. We DID have to use the stuff from the vet and he was not too thrilled about it - we're supposed to "occassionally" put a drop or two into his ears, but I have yet to see any gun as Allen is such a superior ear cleaner.

Bribery... are you ashamed of yourself? LOL:) :) :)

Oh, Leroy...you done it agin!!! :) How many of us can be so cantankerous and be rewarded for it? You're still tops in my book, you devil, you. ;)

For those asking about ear problems, Briggs had horrible build-up in her ears when we 1st got her. The vet treated her for ear mites twice and there was no improvement either time. Still had LOTS of that brown gunk appearing. Turned out it was a fungal infection. The vet sent a specimen to Texas A&M vet school for identification. After the correct diagnosis, we got the right meds and she's never had a problem with it since. Has been 3.5 years now. So could be something other than ear mites and still get the brown gunk.
