I read in the paper that terrorists might be reading the almanac to make another attack. Be careful about where you go.

That's relative and up for debate. Plenty of people consider communism to be a perfectly legitimate form of government.
Certainly China (most populous country on earth) feels okay with it.

Yeah, no doubt the "communists" will probably use the almanac to figure out the best time - weather wise - to fly to California and take over Hollywood..again. What I said, yeah..right

Oh, really funny Laurie.

And what will you do in July when the BBQ is canceled???

And how can you trust communists anyway....

Their leader was Mousie Tongue!

Brought to you by the folks who sent everyone out to buy plastic sheeting and duct tape . . . not to mention the watchdogs who ignored agents' warnings about foreign students in flight schools who didn't seem to care about learning takeoffs and landings.

Really, almanacs? Why is this administration so afraid of books?

And by the way, did you know we've located a weapon of mass destruction? But don't blame Saddam. It was in Texas!

Not only almanacs, but, maps too! I think you can somehow twist the map in such a way, and then depending on the sun's position, by the almanac, the map becomes a weapon of mass destruction.

Then, if that doesn't work, you take the map, find your position on it,by the almanac, and get the heck out of dodge!

Almanacs contain quite a bit of really useful
information concerning the US..

I could see a terrorist using one to plan an attack. Tide tables, crop schedules, phases of the moon, important dates.......

-------------

Is the postal service that bad that they don't know the difference between Jersey and NY?

The person that opened the package....Isn't that a crime?? Opening someone else's mail?

The moron that sent the package deserves all he gets.. If he can't address a package correctly what makes you think he isn't more of a threat to himself than the citizens of his community?

"Come on Delbert, we gotta post this con tro band
so it can get to New York...We-ur gonna overthrow us the government!"

Can you imagine the TERROR this guy felt when the FBI, ATF and the local cops came a calling???

The Soviets are the blues
The reds under your bed
Lying in the darkness dead ahead

Don't worry about the Alminacs...all that info is on publicly accesable websites
Unless homeland security got rid of that too...

an almanac keeps you off the internet....
Highly useful and handy!

"When you NEED to terrorize a country you don't
want to wait for that time consuming dial-up modem and look at the money you'll save on DSL and Cable charges!!!"

Terrorism has always been decidedly low tech, terrorists use what they can, what is at their disposal and run with it.

Don't look for fancy high-tech plots.

Someone once said it didn't make sense to send a million dollar cruise missile to blow up a ten dollar tent.

You get a ten dollar hijacker to take someone else's million dollar planes and drive them into a
ten zillion dollar building...

In business it would be called 'the bottom line'.

More bang for your buck.....:(

 Do I hafta???

Another 'good point' of the 'war on terrorism'
is the fact that Mr Khaddafi learned that lesson in 81.....
and he was paying attention to the material on 2003.

Put yourself in any Middle Eastern leader's shoes.

The last thing you want is the US Army or the Marines doing Thunder Runs/Drive-Bys in your 'Hood.

Bad enough you have the Navy and Air Force dropping leaflets, MRE's and GBU's....

Any good tyrant, leader, prince, pauper or miscreant will and should think twice about letting any terrorist activity begin in his backyard.

The US finds itself in the position where we are soon becoming the police force of the planet..

the only people that should complain about that are the bad guys....

All this paranoia, media hype and the "Homeland Security" department. Doesn't it scare you guys in the US that Homeland Security can detain you without trial? Can keep your records indefinitely? Can trace your calls whenever they feel like it? They are not bound by the usual constraints that the FBI and the cops work under. They don't need to worry about those pesky civil liberties. In the US and even here in Australia, some rather spurious stuff has passed through parliament under the guise of "anti-terrorism."

THAT is what frightens me, not the tin-pot terrorists without two bucks to rub between them.

Big first note here...I'm a liberal...I'm a democrat...I'm one of those supposed bleeding hearts but here's my take an all this. I have friends who died in the World Trade Center Attacks. I absolutely believe in liberty and personal freedom. I wouldn't advocate taping phones or monitoring who buys Almanac's (even Commies )LOL.. however I think we can take some lessons from our UK friends. They have always seemed to be more aware of the threat of terrorists. I think the US has been way too "lais a faire"(sp) about our vulnerability to these attacks. Little things like garbage cans are taken far too lightly here. People without two dimes to rub against each other are the ones with least to loose. Those are the most likely to kling to radical beliefs because they have nothing else.
By the same token...don't screw with law abiding citizens and make life harder than necessary...LOL...There must be a balance somewhere?

The Judiciary is keeping a close eye on the indiefinite detention. In fact, recently the judges have started telling the AG, Charge these people or let them go. These are people rounded up in the dragnet after 9/11, NOT those at Gitmo. Those guys may be very dangerous.

People may diss the media all they want, but the media, biases and all, does shine quite a strong spotlight on many things. Think of the alternative.

IBK,

The HSD is mostly an organization that coordinates the different
branches of the gov't. that monitor TA....

The Judicial part is the one that charges and jails the suspected violaters......

Wires and monitoring people.....

If you behave why worry?

Is it the porn we look at or the E mail we sent to our sib telling them that you cheated on our taxes? The suggestive note we sent our co-worker or the diary you keep on your hard drive of the pound of pot you sold at a profit?

I MAY not behave but I am not dumb enough to put it in writing or talk about it to someone over a cell phone...and if I do....

I deserve what I get.

Civil rights are for people that act civil and aren't hanging around with a bunch of Bobos......
