My stepmom's grandmother recently lost her pet poodle, Chip. For a long time she's had poodles, and she's really heartbroken over losing Chip and, especially now that she had to be hospitalized and will be living with her son, my stepmom would like to get her another poodle, prefferably (sp?) miniature, as that's what she's always had, and prefferably not a puppy, as she just couldn't keep up with one right now. So my stepmom asked me to ask if anyone knows of any poodle rescues in the Ohio/Pennsylvania area so she can see about getting a new dog for her Grandma. Thanks in advance. :)

Go to Petfinder.com and under "animal" it says "breed." If you enter your zip code and click on the Breed List it will bring up all of the breeds and just scroll down to poodle. This will bring up poodles in your area. Most of these are poodles that are currently in shelters and some shelters have a separate listing for dogs that are being fostered.

I looked for months and months at Petfinder for poodles. Then one miraculous day I was at the shelter with my daughter turning in some paper work on a cat she had adopted and we just strolled through the kennel area on a whim. There was my sweetie, Ripley!!! It may be that just routinely checking local shelters may turn up that very special poodle. I know you won't find many but they do turn up occasionally. I hope that you and your stepmom can find just the perfect poodle for her grandmom. Somewhere out there a sweet little one is also looking for her too. :) Keep us posted, OK? :)

I was going to recommend petfinder as well. But don't rule out your local shelter. They (unfortunately) might have poodles often as they are a popular breed, but not always acquired by people who keep them for life.

check with your vet too! sometimes people 'drop off' dogs and never return.:(

This isn't exaclty a poodle rescue, but they do deal with manyof the small breeds. I transported two poodles for them early this year and they seem to be a really good group.

Pennsyvania has a lot of puppy mills and poodles are a pretty common puppy mill breed. It would be great if your stepmother's grandmother could adopt a rescued puppy mill dog!

Here is one example....
Tabby : http://www.puppymillrescue.com/adoptme2.htm
What a cuuuutie, huh!!! :p

Puppymillrescue (homepage: http://www.puppymillrescue.com/) is the group which is fostering Tabby and many others. You can start the application process on this page : http://www.puppymillrescue.com/Howtoadoptme.htm
The entire process may take some time but I think it would certainly be worth it!
