Ok, coming from someone who has nine cats in her house and has dealt with cats all of her life, I'm thinking this is a stupid question. It's ok if you laugh at me because I have a good sense of humor and I can take it!http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/biggrin.gif
Pete has some of the longest whiskers I have ever seen! He has really long eyebrow? hairs that hang down over his eyes. He is a little over one year old and I praying he doesn't grow into those whiskers because he will be huge!! He is already almost as big as Peanut Butter and I know that he is going to be a very large cat. Here is my question...Can you trim the eyebrow? hairs? There is like two or three that hang over his eyes. I just feel sorry for him because he always has those hairs in front of his eyes. It might not even bother him but I keep thinking how I feel when just one or two hairs hang in front of my eyes!!
Here are some pictures where the sun is really showing them clearly.
BTW... Isn't he cute???http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/wink.gif

Oh my! I think those are the longest whiskers I've ever seen!

I know cats use their whiskers as guides to spots they can get into - sort of as feelers - so I'm not sure I'd cut them. He might end up stuck someplace.

But I have to say...."I just feel sorry for him because he always has those hairs in front of his eyes. It might not even bother him but I keep thinking how I feel when just one or two hairs hang in front of my eyes!!"....makes you sound just like my mother when I was a teenager! ;) :D "Get that hair out of your eyes!" I don't know how often I heard that. And for the life of me, I can't remember why I wanted the hair in front of my eyes.....although it was probably just because I knew it bothered her. ;) :p

I know Pete is a boy, but he is just B e a u - t e e f u l ! ! ! :D

Wow! Those are the longest whiskers I've ever seen. He is beautiful! I guess I'd ask the vet. If the whisker's don't seem to bother him, leave them alone. I got in big trouble as a kid when I trimmed Tomasina's whiskers (just one side). The vet gave me a talking to. But, I never tried the eyebrows.

If they aren't bothering him, I guess just leave them alone. They make him even more unique. He's precious.

Wow, I think he gets the prize for longest whiskers. My husband calls Ripley "Wilford Brimely" because his are long but they pale in comparison to those.

Just my opinion but I don't think you should trim them. I saw a cat on Animal Precinct once that had it's whiskers burned off by someone and they said the whiskers had nerve ending in them so it was painful to the cat. I would think eye brow whiskers would be the same.

Generally it's assumed the whiskers are there as guides for their body size but there is no guarantee that some genetic fluke has not programmed them to be longer than necessary. They are harmless, not a nuisance to him and shouldn't be cut.

He's quite handsome.

Ok, I won't trim them! I'm sure it bothers me way more than him!

Your right! Our mothers were always on us about the hair in the eyes thing! Too funny!http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/biggrin.gif
He just reminds me of Andy Rooney...I always want to go through the TV screen and trim those stupid eyebrows!! Thank goodness Pete only has a few hairs like that instead of a bush!:D http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/biggrin.gif

He must be proud, does he strut around showng them off? What fabulous set of whiskers. I have no idea what they do, why they're there, and whether or not they are supposed to be proportionate to something. If only they could talk and tell us!

WOW!!! I thought that I Bob had alot, he doesn't have any in comparission.

I agree, don't cut them. I know that they use them as feelers, and even if they do not have nerves it may make it a little difficult for to move in smaller placese. You had already deceided that.

Love that boy though he is so beutiful.:D
