Hello all!

Last week sure was a cat-busy week. It all started on Tuesday morning when I found Olivia peeing on my favorite sweater. :( I took her into work, worried she was sick.

My vet did a blood test and a urinalysis. Turns out, Livvy has some struvite crystals in her urine and needed to be put on antibiotics. Now...the search for WHY she had crystals. Noah has been a little more of a meanie towards her lately so I was worried she's A, either afraid to go out in the open for water when we're not home or B, that Noah's gaurding the den (litter boxes are kept here) again. Or... both A and B. Either way, she's not drinking enough water or she's holding it. :( She's never, ever had this problem before and Noah's never been this much of a jerk to her. ( :( )

So...we now have a litter box in our bedroom (Livvy hangs out in the window bed during the day) as well as her own water bowls. I've put Rescue Remedy in all the water bowls and fountain and have two plug in Feliways. We also decided to clean out the outdoor enclosure as they haven't been out in several months.

David was home all day and all the cats are really calm since I've been home. Even the kittens aren't wrestling at all!! (I'm shocked!!! I thought they couldn't live without wrestling every hour...aiming for eachother's bad eyelids... )

Anyway, the vet says Livvy seems to be in very good health, and is a goreous girl. :) Her blood tests did reveals she's been exposed to the corona virus (similar to FIP), but she's not corona or FIP positive. Thank God!!

Here are some pictures of Livvy with her Daddy:

Her new collar tag says, "Cats Rule". :) Yep...they do!!

Great pics of Livvy but poor little thing. Hope she's all better soon and hope Noah chills out a bit. I need to plug in a new Feliway refill because tensions have been running a bit high around here lately between all three of mine.

Keep us posted and I'm looking forward to the other's updates too.

My "No No" had to go in last Thursday for a lion cut. He is a ferocious lion at the vet, so I had him put under for a teeth exam, regular exam, his new do' and a microchip.

His back fur was so knotted, he had to be shaved. Although I wasn't thrilled to have that done in the winter, I'm sure he feels so much better. He hated the whole experience and was terrified all day. :(

But...he's happy and home...and bratty as usual. After the vet visit with Livvy, I asked my vet about putting Noah on some anti-anxiety drugs. It'd help with his agression towards her (endless taunting, nothing physical) and with his people fears if he needs to go to the vet. So, he was prescribed Clomicalm. I asked that they compound it and make it flavored so I can give it to him. But...I'm having second thoughts. I feel bad drugging him. I don't want to just put a Band-Aid on something, I want to fix it. I guess I just need reassurance and some advice if you all don't mind. I have a feeling what we did for Livvy will help matters a lot. Extra attention is in order too, especially with the babies here.

Any ideas on how to fix this without the meds for Noah?

Here are some pictures of him in his new lion cut:

Cute! Here he is sleeping with Phoebe:
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid91/p7dce79f93256691e80bad69d6b4ceb2b/fa6e3fb0.jpg

Now onto the babies.

They are doing really, really well. Now that they have thier Soft Paws, Emma's eyes are healing up really well. They are still cloudy, indicating we need to keep her on the Terramycin, but no new colors or swelling. :)

The eye surgeon/specialist is thinking of keeping her! Which is wonderful news...what better home is there? But...I'm keeping Phoebe. I love both of these babies, but I really, honestly can't stand to be without Phoebe. I think I bonded with her when I had to feed her all her food for the first week by having her lick it from my fingers and off my knee. She's most definitely my girl and cries for me when she needs her lovin'. :)

We're thinking of scheduling their surgery in Mid-January to early February. I'll keep you all informed.

Here are some pictures of them. Emma is much larger than Phoebe...wierd, huh??

Emma, rudely disrupted from her game with the paper ball of trash:

Let's see...how many more do we have??? ;)

Noel is doing just great. She loves that David cleaned the outdoor enclosure...basked in the sun just about all day. Here's a picture I took of her in her other favorite place...the top of the cat tree:
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid91/p76faba40cc9604e484273bb8e67f9821/fa6e1b21.jpg

Basie is being a little bratty...mostly because of the kittens, but he's getting better with exta lovin's. :) He's still my little boy.
His new favorite place is the basket I bought for them at least a year ago...
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid91/p4a5e3329a7a9635b0fa8d7b151b5692e/fa6e1a80.jpg

Hermie is doing well too. She just loves Noah and Basie...loves to snuggle and sit near them always. She's our constant leg warmer and sleeping companion. :) We're think she may have some form of wild cat in her. Her personally always indicated it, but just recently, she's been making wierd noises when playing by herself. Its the wierdest thing to hear...I've heard it before in what I want to say was a Mtn. Lion. Its too cute!!
Here she is with David and then playing with her pink mousie:

My Micah Man is the sweetest thing ever. :) I just love that furball so much!!

He's doing so well and is turning into the color he's suposed to be. Now he looks like the Aby's I see in Cat Fancy and that makes me feel so good.

Here we are last Friday after I got home from school:

Oh how I love the updates of multicat households...there's never a dull moment there I suppose!!!
I really enjoyed the pictures, but today special thoughts go out for lovely Livvy!!!

The soft paws on the kittens look very stylish...wow pink panthers...heeheehee;)

All the pictures are wonderful. The kittens are so big and their eyes look so good now that the soft paws are in place. Micah really is showin his true aby colors.
Now as for the medicine, IF there is a non-medical way, then I would say it would be better. But the only non-medical way might be to separate the cats. Allow me to use my example: Jim and Sterling were peeing inappropriately due to the new additions. There really was no way to MAKE them feel that these cats are not a threat to them, with a cat once a threat....always a threat. SO my choices were....I get rid of boys who pee (to a home with less cats), I get rid of the extra cats (Bonnie and the fosters) OR I medicate them. I chose medicine.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Livvy seems to be feeling better and likes her new litterbox in the bedroom. I'll keep you updated after her urinalysis next week.

Jen,
Thanks for the advice on Noah. I'll do what I can and then resort to meds if it doesn't work.

I don't know how many pics I've seen of your fur family, but every time I am amazed at how beautiful your cats are :)

The Micah pics are precious. He's really come into his own and looks like he's been there his whole life! :)

Isn't Micah just the best! Wow he has come a long way. That fawn colour is gorgeous! I know I am VERY partial to that colour since Bastet is the same shade!

I am so happy he is looking so good. Its lovely to see :D

All your other mogglers (my word for cat *grins*) look beautiful too! Noah looks very fetching in his lion cut. I am sure he feels much more comfy now without all those mats.

Awww, Kelly, your family is so gorgeous. I don't know if I could find a favorite, but Micah the Magnificent does come to mind.

How do you do it? Work, school, and your family, do you ever get any sleep?

What a good Mommy you are!

Gini,
You are too kind. :) Actually, know how I'm one of those volunteer junkies? Well, I've put all my energy into my fuzzies at home...that, and I have a wonderful hubby that helps. :)

Yea, I sleep...but with a hundred cats on me!! ;)

Thanks for the update on the kids.:D

That are all so cute. I really love the pictures of Noah and Phoebe that is just so great. I am happy to hear that the surgeon is still thinking of taking Emma, good luck.

I wish that I had advice on the behaviourm but I think Jen is the best to listen to on this.

I do have one question, you mention that you asked the vet to compound it and make it flavored. Is it possible for them to flavor the pills? If it is I really want to know.:) I may have just misunderstood also.:o

Once again I loved all of the pics and the updates on everyone.

Thanks!:D

Yea...all my furkids refuse to cooperate with me if I shove a pill down their throats... ;) So, my vet sends prescriptions to a medical compounder. They do it for people as well as animals, all you need to do is find a "compounding pharmacy". :)

They add chicken flavor to the meds for me, so I can hide it in the cat food or put it in their mouths with a syringe. Works really well, but its pretty expensive, that's the only down side.

How cool is that!:D

I had no idea that such a thing existed. I may have to try and find one in my area, and check on the prices.

I have a few other questions, but I will PM you just so I don't bore everybody else.

Thanks!!!

I had to have medicine compounded for Shimmer, one of my fosters that had bartonella. Many times meds for humans are not provided in the right dose, so they are ground and mixed with oil as a suspension.

Here's the cat in question. He's available!

I can't help with a non medicine solution. My Deirdre is very high strung and just about chewed most of her hair off from stress. I tried the Rescue Remedy. I tried the Feliway...I had several of the plug ins. Nothing helped. I then tried the Clomicalm. She is now almost completely fuzzy again. I really haven't noticed a difference in her either. She is still a very high strung, high maintenance, high energy cat. But she isn't chewing her hair off anymore. And she is also more willing to play with Katiebug and allow the other cats to lie near her. She will probably never allow the others to sleep touching her or to participate in mutual grooming but she has calmed down just a touch.

I have never thought about the compounding pharmecy. It is a difficult pill to give because I have to cut the 20 mg pill into quarters and it crumbles very easily and instantly disintigrates with moisture. So I have used the Velveeta cheese ball method.

Good luck with your kitty.

Thanks for the update of your glorious family.
I am so glad to hear Phoebe and Emmy don't hurt their eyes with their stylish soft paws.

I love all of your furkids but Hermione the little wildcat and Micah are my favorites:D

Neat that you can get the pills with flavor. This doesn't exist around here but it would be a great help as Filou and Tigris also HATE them.
