All of a sudden our home computers won't go to pet talk. it says page can not be displayed. help what do i do, what did i do to make it do this. it will go to any and all other sites. now i am on dial up, we have cable. it wouldn't let me go there on juno either, so i went to my yahoo mail and it did let me in that way, clicking on an e mail private message and then pet talk. can anyone help me. send me an e mail. since i cant read posts here on dial up it takes waaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. we have xp and havent added or deleted any programs lately. please help i can not live without pet talk and i can not live with dial up.
Katz
i will go in to user cp and fix it so i can get e mails now. it has to be e mail cause it wont let me get a PM either. hopefully the e mail is just regular e mail and not something that i have to read through pet talk.
this will kill me if i can't get on this site any more. i'm so scared:eek:

please e mail me any one who can help.

i have cable. i can not get here from cable. it says page can not be displayed. i can get to any other site, anyand all sites, no problem. just not pet talk. i used juno dial up, to get here now.. i can not type in www.petoftheday.com and get here on juno dail up , it doesnt work. i had to go to my mail in juno dail up , yahoo, and go to an e mail of a PM and go to that and then click on the logo of pet of the day. this does not work with the cable. only the dial up. please help. do i need to call the cable provider?
i am getting scared.
catdad is trying to help, but i'm scared
everything worked fine at 2am and not at 8am. all other short cuts work, we can go to any site on the web, just not pet talk
please pleas help.

I've been having troubles getting on too -- but not just at home. It's happened lots at school and the library too. I thought maybe PT was just making some changes or something. It hasn't happened since yesterday though. All it does, is takes about 5-10 minutes to load one page. Sometimes the page will show, other times it will say the page can not be displayed.

I talked and worked with Katz and she is able to get back to the site. We are still not quite sure why she was having a problem. However, she can at least get here.

Wolfsoul, unfortuanately it was probably not the same issue. We think that hers was internal to her home network. Sorry.

We can come here again. Wow that was so strange. The regular address does not for for us any more. So now when I get an e-mail saying someone has posted to a thread I am signed up for I can not just click on it and go to Pet Talk. I have to use the IP address to access the Pet Talk site. Something in the router probably. More hoops to jump through, but at least we can come here. It was a long day not being able to read stuff. I had the day off too.
Thanks to Catdad we are back.
Katz
I will test it out tomorrow with just the cable modem box and the computer bypassing the router.

Refresh didn't work for the computers. We think it's in the router. I will hook up one computer with just the cable modem and no router to check it. But what a smart guy to get the IP address and go in that way.
Geeks are Great:D :D :D

Always happy to help someone, if I can.:D

I do not pretend to know all, and there are things that I may not be able to help with. I will definately let you know if that is the case. However, I have been around the "computer" block a few times and do know a few things.;)

So, now that the proper expectations have been set.:p Please feel free, if you have something you need help with.:)

I'm having similar trouble. Finally signed off my DSL ISP and am using my dial-up one (It's SOOOO slow!). Refresh doesn't work on my DSL at least, and yes, I was hoping it was on PT side, but see now it wasn't...

Maybe you could answer a question for me:)
For the last week or so I have had a problem. My homepage has been changing:confused: For some reason, once I was on pt and went to go to the next page & a porn site came up:eek: It happened quite a few times. Karen said to empty my cache & it seemed to work for a little while, but now at least once a day I go to my homepage & it's different than it should be. I just don't understand. I haven't had the porn site pop up anymore, and I never authorized my homepage to be changed at any time.
Do you have any thoughts on this? I have XP and internet explorer.

Sometimes my homepage will change too. But...not to porn...LOL. I'm not sure why it does that though. I'll click out of it, and go to my homepage again, and it will take take me right to PT, where I want it lol.

Anna if it constantly changes and you did not click on anything to allow it to change it for you, then you may have a virus of some sort, or a program that is running on your machine what you may have picked up by accidently clicking on something while you were surfing. Just to be clear, the virus that I mention may not be harmful beyond changing you homepage.
A couple of questions:
1. When you open your browser and it goes to the wrong homepage. Go to the tools menu > Internet options. The first tab will list what IE should be going to, is it what you want.
2. If you click refresh does it take you to your home page or back to the wrong on.

We'll start there.

wolfsoul I think that yours may just be a cache thing. Go ahead and clear that and your cookies(Make sure you know what that does). I would have to know a few more things before making any more guesses.

Go ahead and post back into this thread, if you like or PM me. IF you post back into this thread, let me know through a PM. I almost missed your 2 questions.

Hey Bryan, I picked up a virus just the other day from just visiting a sight about animals, pets. I guess I was really lucky, because my virus program popped up and told me that it had detected a virus, as a matter of fact it said two viruses, anyway I have them quarantined. One is loader[2] exe. and the other was stcloader.exe. The funny thing was as soon as that happened popups just started bombarding my computer, I went to a site that told me how to get rid of it, turn off my system restore and boot into safemode, and run my virus program. It found them and put them in quarantine, and then I went ahead and ran another scan just to be safe. What I was wondering, do you think I could go ahead and delete the quarantined files?

I do clear out my cookies regularly. :) What I think it may be, is microsoft trying to get me to go to their website more often, because it is always the microsoft webpage it seems to go to.

Tray, if your computer is running normal in the regular windows mode. I see no reason why deleting the files would matter. When it quarantined the files did it copy tem to another directory? If it did then I would say that it was OK.

wolfsoul I think that MS is just trying to take over your computer.:) Honestly, I am not entirely sure since you throw in the part about going to MS sites. I have seen alot of programs that do a redirect to a site, but never to MS. Let me think on it and do some research. I'll fire you off a PM in a couple of days and let you know if I figured anything out.

No, it goes to the homepage I don't want. But I can go to >Internet options & change it back to the one I want it it will be fine until I log off, then log back on...then the same old thing.
It's not actually a porn site that it goes to (www.hardcore....something or other) it's a search engine of some sorts.
Clicking refresh will take me back to the hompage I want only after changing it.
I've checked to see if I have any viruses, but it shows up I don't (but obviously I have one of some sorts:o ).

Anna I will write you a PM sometime this evening.

I want to look at something and reply to a few other post.:)

Besides, I am pretty sure that everyone else doesn't want to hear me go on and on and on about computers and tedious trobleshooting steps.:D

I can generally bore someone with computer talk in just under 5 minutes without trying. I think that my record it about a minute.:D

I was just wondering if when you get to the Microsoft page, is there some kind of directions or something that they are wanting, I know that mine does that sometimes just to remind me to update or something like that, but it doesn't do it that often. When I click on the home Icon, it then carries me to my homepage. What does it say? Just wondering.
