I think Kia is depressed and I don't know what to do! Her appetite is still there (food wise). But I can't get her to play or enjoy half of her treats.

I try not to panic but I don't know what to do!? She's been secluding herself in her crate or just laying on the floor looking SO sad.

It breaks my heart! Is it the weather!? Is she telling me that I'm a bad mommy!? :( :( :(

Also, she's still itching and her hematoma that was going away, is now coming back. :(

help!

Maybe she's not depressed. Maybe she's sick. I get like that when I'm not feeling well.

I'm 100% positive that you're not a bad mommy! You're a WONDERFUL mommy! Just give her some time and take her to the vet if she doesn't perk up soon.

I don't really have any advice to give, except to say that I'm thinking of you, and sending love to you and poor Kia. Maybe once this ear problem has settled down she will perk up again.

Maybe the only thing I'd say would be to try and keep routine for her, because I know a sudden change in routine will really upset her if she's already unsteady. Also, maybe as stacwase said, perhaps she is more ill than depressed. I read a book once that said sick dogs will hide, and either emerge a week later healthy, or die. Maybe Kia is just 'hiding' in her crate until she heals?

This is strange actually, because I nearly posted a thread about depression in rabbbits in the "Pet Health" section, because I am worried about Zander. Maybe he's just lonely but I am worried for him, and I don't know how to help him.

All my love and best wishes to you and Kia. I hope she feels better soon, and let you feel some peace. Please don't think that you are a bad mommy! Think how much worse Kia would feel if she didn't have her mommy there to comfort her and protect her. She needs you and I just know you're doing a wonderful job.

I agree with the others,
Maybe she is not feeling well.
You are a wonderful mommy to Kia.
Hopping Kia is feeling better and her old
self soon.

AWWW! Poor Kia!!!
You are a Wonderful Mommy...she might be a little upset over the hematoma thing...but I would still ask them to run blood...perhaps a little B complex or something similar would help...Doesn't hurt to ask....

Poor Kia :(:(:( How long has this been happening?? I know when Malone gets like that, I worry sick...and then he bounces back in a day or so.

{Hugs} to Kia, and hoping she'll be back to normal again soon!

Something must be wrong, can you take her back to the vet? It probably has to do with her allergies, poor Kia. It is not because you are a bad Mommy!!!

I think dogs get depressed just like humans do...
Have you ever had one of those day.. or a few days, where you just don't feel up to doing anything?

If she doesn't cheer up for a while, i'd take her to the vet.

She's been acting odd for nearly a week or so. Her potty trips are normal, no vomiting, she doesn't feel warm. The vet said she didn't have an ear infection and looked good other than the hematoma when I took her in for that.

Though she didn't eat her dinner last night.

I did get her to play tug of war for about a minute, then she just flopped down and acted disinterested.

I'll give the vet a call and see what she thinks.

It's so frustrating. I wish she could tell me what's wrong.

First off there is no way you are a bad mommy!

I think that the way Kia is acting has something to do with the way she is feeling. Not necessarily depression but just not feeling up to par. When Jack had the diahrea and vomiting, the vet said that dogs get bugs like we do. Could be Kia just has one of those "I don't feel good" bugs with the symptoms only being listlissness, lack of appetite. Dazzi disappears into her crate when she is not feeling so well but it has never lasted more than a day or so. I would give her another day or two and see how she is doing. However a phone call to the vet doesn't cost anything and maybe they can relieve your mind about it being something more serious.

Is she taking meds for the Hematoma? Sometimes a side affect would be depression.
But depression in dogs is never a good sign-I would definately call the vet.

She got a shot of steriods on 10/23 and I've been giving her a Benedryl tablet every now and then (not every day).

AAAH! Maybe she's not depressed-but just a little drousy. Benedryl will do that. I was giving it to my old sringer spaniel mix-and she was a hyper pooch-but when she was on the benedryl-she was much less hyper and slept alot-but it was still better then keeping her on steroids for her skin problems.

Benadryl makes me sleepy--maybe it does to her too.

Feel better soon, Kia!

I do hope she starts feeling better soon. Who knows, maybe it is the benadryl just making her drowsy. Try not to worry too much.
Give her *KISSES* from me:D

If I take benadryl, I'm sleepy and lazy for two straight days. Maybe that's all it is!

I hope so! :D

Thanks for the words of encouragement. :)

I am sorry to hear Kia is feeling listless, poor sweetie. Sounds like the benydral could be the cause, (I only know if it quietens a Springer down it has to have quite a sedative quality to it!) Hope she is feeling better soon.

Hugs to you both and please give Kia a big kiss for me.

Poor Kia:(

Like everyone else said, it's probably just the benadryl.

Feel better soon sweet Kia girl!!!

Kim,

If it's been a week or so & she's still acting lethargic, it could
be effects of the benadryl or maybe a low grade fever from the
allergies. I have a feeling you know your Kia like no one else
does. If she keeps this up much longer, I'd call the Vet about it.
Really hope ole "blue eyes" gets to feeling better soon.:)

Kia didn't eat her dinner last night either, but she was much more peppy. (Maybe the company of the cable guy had something to do with it. ;) lol!)

She brought a toy to me for once and we played a little tug of war and wrestled. :D

I think now she's getting used to the effects of the benedryl. On the upside, I think the benedryl is finally working. She's not itching as much and her hematoma is going away again. :D
