I had this idea for next Thursday. Richard and I have chartered an airplane. (Richard is rich you know).

Hurry and make your reservation now - we can fly anywhere you like - all day. Be sure to say what you want to eat and drink so we can be sure that all of the supplies are on board.

Everything is FIRST CLASS! Yes, you can bring your pets, but they must behave!

Start putting in your travel requests early so that we can be sure to route the plane and not miss any destinations.

[we will need some to stay and clean the plane when we get home]

(since this a virtual day off, you don't even have to ask for permission to leave work)

"Hey Boss, de Plane, de plane"

My dream vacation is Australia/New Zealand, but since we only have a day I'll take the coast of Maine so I can fill up on lobster tails with garlic butter.

Hey - it is a "virtual" day of vacation. We can go anywhere you like and stay as long as you want.

"Of all the places where the Carnival
Was most facetious in the days of yore,
For dance, and song, and serenade, and ball,
And masque, and mime, and mystery, and more
Than I have time to tell now, or at all,
Venice the bell from every city bore,
and at the moment when I fix my story,
That sea-born city was in all her glory."

Just drop me off at the Accademia Gallery and the Marciano Museum, please. *dreamy sigh*

Travelling is my thing, so I'm definately joining this. ;) I'd like to go to Dominican Republic again, the weather is great and you can go snorkling. The hotel standard is above average I'd say, but still it's cheap. One of my reasons for choosing this destination is that I can brush up my spanish!

There's one place we must not miss there - that's Cafe Cito in Puerto Plata, owned by a canadian ex consul - a real nice guy! :D

If you like to smoke cigars, I have a real good connection there. ;)

Oh, and if you like Pina Coladas, they know how to make them!!

I want to go to Norway and Poland and while I'm over that way, I may as well stop in to see Randi in Denmark and Vio in Moldova, and anybody else in that part of the country. Then I'd love to see Russia. Oh, and I don't want the typical tourist destinations in any of these spots. I want to see the "real" country and the "real" people that live and work there - oops, add Belgium to the list so I can visit Lut and Niina!

I have Norwegian and Polish roots and I've always wanted to visit those countries. Terry doesn't understand (he's smitten with Germany) so it's highly unlikely that I'll ever really get there, so this virtual trip will be fantastic!

Thanks Richard, I didn't know you were rich, but now that I think about it, I guess your real name is Ard and the Rich in front of it is telling us all we need to know. ;) :p :D

Can we make it down to Belize for a little scuba in the Blue Hole? That would be great. And those who don't scuba could hang out in San Pedro for a while. Then we could meet for some mai tai by the pool. I'd like some conch fritters if you please. Maybe some oysters and some fresh catch.

Ah, I love this thursday!

OOps, sorry I know this is a respectable bra....I mean bar.

Tonya: I'd like to help myself and get you one, but I don't have the keys to the liquor cabinet. I think either MOFF or Catland has the spare set. For now, water it is. We'll be celebrating your 5,000 next week.:) :) Glad to see you are on board with us again. Nice to have you back.

All of the reports that were due today are done - it has been a long day. And when I went to the post office IT IS RAINING IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA RIGHT NOW!

I don't usually get quite so excited about rain - but I am sure everyone will know why I am ecstatic!

Alright Richard - bring on the Meyer's............yum!!

And don't forget on the Concorde (gosh, thanks, Richard, for leasing it) you can order ANYTHING you want!

The intinerary is coming along, but there is still plenty of time to put in your request for anywhere in the world!

Marciano Museum in Venice Zip? I knew the French had a thing for Jerry Lewis but didn't know about the Italians & old boxing legions  And where would I like to go? hmmm right now back in time sounds OK or maybe to the second star on the right to NeverNever land. Lobster with drawn butter sounds good and maybe some scones with clotted cream while in England. But I'm tired right now and need to smooth some cats & walk the dogs on this lovely Fall morn. By the way, I enjoyed the Halloween Party but guess you guys couldn't see me in my Lamont Cranston costume (aka The Shadow).

I've always wanted to go to Costa Rica, or Africa to see the beautiful animals! I would also like to spend a little time in Australia and New Zealand.....or wherever Orlando Bloom happens to be shooting his next movie! :D

I know this sounds silly but can I stop in the US in California to visit with my sis for just a bit? Please? I haven't seen her in so long.

As far as what I want to eat, well since I won't be able to get a sitter Dylan will have to come with me. :o So make that some grahm crackers, a gallon of 2% milk, some 7 grain bread and mild cheddar cheese with real chicken breast slices, and spinach for our sandwhiches. Some nice ceasar salad, with pieces of salmon, cherry tomatoes, cucumber and croutons! :D Have to have Calamari, and stuffed grape leaves, deep fried cheese sticks and some artichoke with butter! And for my main course, a nice big plate of Parmesan (sp?) Salmon with wild grain rice and creamy garlic mash potatoes! I'll make sure to eat breakfast before we leave!

Geez, I don't ask for much do I?:p

Sorry, I don't/won't fly even cyberly. I tried it once in a small twin engine Cessna? I will never do it again. I'll wait until I get to heaven and get my wings before I get my old behind off the ground again. I'll just stay here and fix my own stuff this week. Thanks for the offer though.

slick
11-01-2003, 04:56 PM
I'll keep you company MOFF. I'll get the pilot to swing by and let me off mid-stream. Then you and I can cook up ourselves a mess of lobster that I bring back. The rest can carry on with their world tour. Sound OK??? We can look after the bar and make sure it's fully stocked for when the crowd returns.

gini
11-01-2003, 04:57 PM
Well, MOFF, I have never been to Kansas. Do you think you could handle all of us coming to visit you? We don't want to leave anyone out of the fun especially a regular at Thursdays. And we could bring you food and your choice of any drink. It would probably be written up in your local newspaper too.:D

slick
11-02-2003, 09:46 AM
Sounds great Debbie, that way MOFF can come with us. Yeah!!!!! Thanks for make the "bus" available. I'll gladly pitch in for gas money. Just one thing though. Do you have a humungeous pot for the lobsters?? If not, I can bring one.

Sure!!! Come on over. We even have a small airport. I can take you all to the Fort and maybe our resident ghost will make an appearance.

Gosh, it's awfully quiet in here. Have you all left for parts unknown all ready?

Bring your jackets and coats when you stop here. Our warm spell is ending and the temp will be in the low 50s. Perfect for a bon fire!!! I have plenty of marshmallows and hot chocolate though! Will that go with lobster?:D

gini
11-04-2003, 11:40 AM
Right this moment some lobster and hot chocolate might make me go to that little room that says "occupied" when you enter and close the door.

I wasn't feeling great yesterday - and today I know why - full blown cold, chills, chest congestion....sinuses a mess!

I hope we can round up a real Dr. before Thursday!

To drink - HOT TEA!!

O.K., so the travel agent for this adventure (s) got a bad cold.

So the actual itinerary isn't in its final form.

Besides (ahem) Richard, it IS only Tuesday and there is plenty of time to take more travel requests.

When you take a regular flight on say, United Airlines or American do you say "who's the pilot for this flight?"

Thanks for the welcome, Slick. Guess I assumed that the plane would have a salad bar, bowls of salted nuts, fresh fruit, etc. Hope the folks from my thread don't overindulge on that TVP food though, inside the plane on a long trip. (Tofu is about the only soy that doesn't give me social problems).

Ok, so I'll tell Terry to be in New York with the motorhome about Monday? That way we'll have enough time to get to Kansas by Thursday. However, we'll have to rent some Limos because I'm absolutely positive that Terry will get nowhere even near the airport in New York. We'll have to go to him. Can you see this big-*ss motorhome driving down the streets of New York? Too funny! ;) :D But instead of Limos, maybe we can all sky dive out of the Concorde into a field. I'll have Terry pick a field and tell us which one. Then he - and the EMT's - can be standing by for when we "drop" in. ;) :D  :D

I'm up for just a plain ol' Coke with ice and a straw right now. First one this morning didn't quite do it so I'm going to need another.....

Upon leaving "Merry Ole England" last week, Scott purchased something called Sheridan's Coffee Layered Liquer" at the duty free shop. It is two bottles, hooked together, one a white, vanilla cream liquer, and the other a coffe liquer. They pour out together and end up in layers in the glass. Far too sweet for my taste (but I did taste it). :) My favorite "treat" was the package of Absolut Vodka "mini" bottles, just a taste of five different flavors. The "pepper" was definitely my favorite!!!! :)

I think I'll stick to champagne today, bartender. In honor of your birthday, of course!!! :)

So in honour of your birthday Richard, I've invited a very special guest. Everyone, please welcome Nigella Lawson!!!!

**applaud** ** applaud**

Nigella: "Thank you Slick. Richard, I understand that I was part of your fantasy perfect mate and I'm very flattered so I agreed to make this lovely cake in honour of your special day."

**leans down and gives Richard and kiss and hands him the cake**

"On days when I want the warmth of the hearth rather than the hurly burly of the city streets I stay in and read cookery books, and this recipe comes from just the sort of book that gives most succour, Classic Home Desserts by Richard Sax. The cake itself (which was the pudding I made for last New Year's Eve dinner) is as richly, rewardingly sustaining: a melting, dark flourless chocolate base, the sort that sinks damply on cooling; the fallen centre is then cloudily filled with softly whipped cream, and sprinkled with cocoa powder. As Richard Sax says 'intensity, then relief, in each bite'."

CHOCOLATE CLOUD CAKE

Ingredients:

250g dark chocolate minimum 70% cocoa solids
125g unsalted butter, softened
6 eggs: 2 whole, 4 separated
175g caster sugar: 75g in the cake, 100g in whites
2 tbspns Cointreau (optional)
grated zest of an orange (optional)
23cm springform cake tin
Cream topping:

500ml double cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbspn Cointreau (optional)
half tsp unsweetened cocoa powder for sprinkling
Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 180C/gas mark 4.

Line the bottom of a 23cm Springform cake tin with baking parchment. Melt the chocolate either in a double boiler or a microwave, and then let the butter melt in the warm chocolate.

Beat the 2 whole eggs and 4 egg yolks with 75g caster sugar, then gently add the chocolate mixture, the Cointreau and orange zest.

In another bowl, whisk the 4 egg whites until foamy, then gradually add the 100g of sugar and whisk until the whites are holding their shape but not too stiff. Lighten the chocolate mixture with a dollop of egg whites, and then fold in the rest of the whites. Pour into the prepared tin and bake for about 35 to 40 minutes or until the cake is risen and cracked and the centre is no longer wobbly. Cool the cake in it's tin on a wire rack; the middle will sink as it cools.

When you are ready to eat, place the still tin-bound cake on a cake stand or plate for serving and carefully remove the cake from its tin. Don't worry about cracks or rough edges: it's the crater look we're going for here. Whip the cream until soft and then add the vanilla and Cointreau and continue whisking until the cream is firm but not stiff. Fill the crater of the cake with the whipped cream, easing it out gently towards the edges of the cake, and dust the top lightly with cocoa powder pushed through a tea-strainer.

Serves 8-12

THANKS!!!

I have eaten 'budget gourmet' before now THAT'S an oxymoron!

Zip,
Shoot!
I already had a gift picked out!!!
The Polynesian Wedding ceremony attracts more and more foreigners
especially Americans and Japanese. (A famous example among others: Dustin
Hoffman's wedding in 1995).
Indeed, Tahiti and her Islands offer an ideal setting for the most beautiful and
memorable event in one's life.
Organized with a lot of taste by many major hotels of Polynesia, this wedding
has in general no legal*, nor religious worth.
In most cases, it takes place during a honeymoon, or to give a special meaning
to a love relationship or to renew vows for an anniversary.
Couples have the choice between an ancient royal ceremony or a more
traditional occidental one.

How about something intense.....there's still come Nigella cake left.

They won't let me off the plane to meet Carole's family and pets. Carole, you are coming with us aren't you?

Customs said my cough sounded like I would contaminate all of NZ.

We didn't miss Australia did we? Are we swinging back north after this? Just can't miss Captain and Miss Meow.

Richard - there must be something that you can concoct in the bar that is excellent for a bad cold/cough.

I am really sick so I am not sure I read this right.....Richard what are you doing sitting in the lobster tanks? And you brought moths with you?

Ditto on the whiskey honey and lemon. After my mom had her heart attack and bypass surgery, she had a horrible cough - not a cold, just a dry hacking cough that they said is not unusual after such surgery. Needless to say coughing was quite painful for her since they slit her from throat to belly button - including the rib cage!  So she took to drinking hot water with lemon honey and a shot of whisky in it. Now you must know that my mom is not a drinker by any means. She might have a beer maybe every 6 months or so when out to dinner, but other than that none for her thank you very much. So I was kinda shocked when she first told me of this therapy she had found - my dad isn't a drinker either so I was shocked that they actually had whiskey in the house.  But at that point I was just glad she found something to make her feel better, and it's not like she did like Richard and over-indulged :p , she'd have maybe one a day, and the whiskey really helped calm her cough - and I'm sure it dulled the pain a little too.

So Gini, don't scoff, let Richard make you up a honey lemon and whiskey and I'm sure you'll be feeling better in no time. :D Hope you feel better so you can enjoy the rest of the flight. I hate flying when I have a cold and my head is all stuffy - blegh :p

Oh sure, make it sound like I'm a total lush....;)

Actually If you get the honey with the comb in it you can break off a piece and chew on that to relieve some of the symptoms of you illness...

OR a teaspoon of honey followed by a teaspoon of lemon juice is another old remedy for a dry cough.....the whiskey is just an excuse to have a drink..no, what the alcohol does is make you sweat-
ugh, not the best feeling in the world when you are sick but you do feel better, faster...

take care....

I have two remedies for cough one honey lemon and vodka it's tasteless the vodka. The other a screw drver heavier on the oj. Cures me or else I just don't care. I can't drink. Half a wine cooler and I'm gone.

I want all of you to bring those remedies to the back of the plane.

Yeah, I am sitting back here and you won't be able to miss me......I am the one that smells just like a bottle of Vicks.........so I might as well smell like Vicks and Whiskey or Vicks and Vodka.........

But sick or not......by doG, I am going with you to Disneyland and Australia..........Richard isn't going to spring for this plane lease again anytime soon.

(Richard and I are playing the California lottery - currently $23 million. If ever either of us wins.......just you watch Pet Talkers, just you watch.........and be packed and ready to go!)

Good morning everyone. I still can't find the lobsters so I guess we'll just have to have something else.

I remember having a Bloody Mary in in SwissHotel in Chicago - and it blew my head off - the bartender was so cute and he gave me another bottle of tomato juice to dilute it a bit!!!
It didn't!!!

Um, someone else will have to cook the lobsters. I don't have the heart to kill something. I know a lobsters life isn't much but it's important to the lobster. I just can't kill them. It's just too sad... one minute it's full of life and the next laying dead on a plate.

Well now the secrets out... I'm a softie!!!

Yeah, I hear ya MOFF. When I was a kid we used to go crabbing and come back and cook up live crabs for supper. My brother used to tease me that the crabs would scream as they hit the boiling water but it didn't bother me back then. I must admit it would be a problem now. So, maybe we should gather up the lobsters, put them back in the tank (with the top on) and take them back, or we could just get Richard to cook them up.

Anal. I said Anal. They have to be straight. They have to be in the exact same spot as last year. Where the two strands meet, has to be in the exact middle of the window. An inch or two either way does not work. I'm not usually anal about anything other than Christmas lights. I have a 6' artificial tree and it takes me 3-4 hrs to put on the lights because they have to be placed "just so". God forbid if someone decides to help me with it.

Let's see the rules were:

NO SNORING! Look I promise to try not to IF I can ever get to sleep here.

NO FLATULENCE! Don't look at me!!

NO SLEEPWALKING! Oh sure, that was just the kitten walking across my legs...........50 pound kitten.

NO GAMBLING ..well, you are all gambling that a night like this will leave me in a good mood in the morning!

And Slick would you put those Christmas lights away for now - we will all help you when we get back home.

Hmmm, and it is the motorhome to Kansas in the morning?

Why am I not excited?

Morning all! WAKE UP!!!:D Hope you all slept welll T&P...did Mr. B find his way to you? I told him you needed a little furry loving; he's the best snuggler:)

Corinna, you have your choice; indoor shower or out. Here on the Cape, we love bathing under the sun and stars, BUCK NEKED:D Towels on the bench. And whomever's first, don't use up all the hot water!

Now, who cranked up the pool heater to 90 degrees?? Did you think we were going to cook the lobsters in the pool?? That's what the hot tub's for!:D What an amazing bit of luck. Indian summer has hit the Cape; it's a balmy 65. Looks like we'll be dining on the dunes! So, pack up your sand pails and shovels kiddies and let's have a little Beach Party Bingo!:D As you'll want to head off to the land of the Virgins by dusk, let's plan on a late lunch...3ish?? Place your orders now!

The pool is turned up to 90 degrees SO FAR, what are we going to do? Put the lobsters in the POOL  I sleep with several dogs and at least two cats so if another sleep-over is scheduled let me know, my kids are loving and snuggly (but Slick, they do snore  ) GOOD MORNING, JENNY IS COMING HOME TODAY. I'm going to have to learn to play "Nurse Jane FuzzyWuzzy" but lets eat first. I need my stamina at full tilt boogie today. A Bloody wouldn't hurt.
what is this? Week 27 and a half??

'Mornin. Can't I sleep in a bit?? I was up late in the pool. No I didn't turn up the heat. Someone kept kicking in the night and it wasn't Debbie. And who was snoring??? Was it the dog.

Oh well, it was fun anyway. For me right now I need breakfast. A denver omlette with hash browns and toast. MMM. I'll help you prepare it Tats. Who else wants breakfast??? Laurie, a BM this early?? Why not. Richard, make it two please.

Tats, after we feed everyone breakfast you and I can prepare the food for the Beach Party. Do we need to go shopping because I have some money to contribute towards the food.

I'll take the outdoor shower. Life is adventurous.:D :D

Morning Slick!:) I think Richard's still under the spell of Mr. Sandman!:D You go take your shower and I'll fix the vittles! Western (Denver) omelet with all the fixins coming up! Anyone for coffee, tea?? I'll bring out a pot of both and some pitchers of tomtao and O.J. And I've already made a quick trip to the store and pulled up the lobster traps, AND dug up the clams, so we're all set until cooking time, Slick! Richard, all we need for you is to go collect the seaweed and dig the pit for the clambake!:D (And get Laurie her BM!!:D)

Laurie, we're goiing to make this a "welcome home" party for Jenny!! What a happy day!:)

If they can get him to play , he never has been much to play. He thinks his whole job in life is to hold down the couch preferably with me on it I guess it helps him keep an eye on me. He is kinda my alert dog, something I noticed a long time ago he knows when my diabetes is acting up and through his behavior changes . he is more actred than my monitor. So he really never has played.

catland
11-12-2003, 11:31 AM
I'll take some of that coffee if there's any left. A Mimosa sounds like a good way to start the morning.

Protein bars:p ? Not exactly the way I wanted to start the morning, but the Denver omelet sounds good.:)

Corinna: I know what you mean. Max and Speckles have one main job to do too and that's to hold the couch down as well.:D Here's your protein bar.

As Richard would say DONE! Will we be back in town for tomorrow's party??

Tats, I'll start shucking the corn for the clam bake so it's all done.

tatsxxx11
11-12-2003, 12:07 PM
Thanks Slick! You shuck the corn, I'll shuck the clams and oysters! I've already peeled the taters for roasting and the sausage is ready to go. And while I've got the stove on, anyone up for a Monte Cristo? I've got the ham and turkey...it's great with Monterey Jack!:) Oh, I forgot the fruit bowl; and here's some fresh brewed java. Could you tell?? I ground the beans fresh!

Merlin, you can snuggle on thecouch for as long as you like sweetie. My girls sound too obnxious for a sweet, mellow pup like you!:)

Richard, eat up. Time to get digging soon!:D

11-12-2003, 12:22 PM

A question: I've never been to these parts. Would anyone mind if I ran into town for a little Christmas shopping after my chores are done?? Anyone want to join me??

Richard: How's the bar stocked?? Do I need to pick up anything along the way??

Where did Laurie, Logan and Debbie take off to??

tatsxxx11

I've got the fire going and the lobsters, steamers, corn on the cob, sausages and potatoes slow cooking under their seaweed blanket. Oh, the butter needs to be melted and the clam broth for dunking, heated. The libations bar and the raw bar are all set up, so, when you get home guys, just grab your blanket, your lobster bib and your wet naps and walk down the path to the beach; just follow the smoke:eek: P.S....it's getting dark, so bring your flashilights. Maybe I'll bring down some torches, ala Tahitian style...(Hmmm, that's sounds lke a fun destination!) Anyone bring there ukulele??:D And where's Don Ho when you need him?? Woops, wrong island! THERE you are, Richard! Went for a dip, huh?? You must be part polar bear! Yikes! Where'd the pane go?? Well, anytime you guys wanna eat, it's ready!:) But bring your sweatshrits, it's chilly! BTW...My name is Sandra (and no, I'm not an alcoholic) but, I will be your server this evening...Belly up to the raw bar for some little necks, oysters and steamers and for the faint of heart, shrimp cocktails.
And we also have some hot chowdah in the pot to chase off that chill. Would you like a few more minutes to make your selections??:D

Yay, another sleepover! You guys know the drill and I actually MADE YOUR BEDS for you all and you'll find complimentary thin mints on your pillows! For my encore, Slick, I'll sing you all a bit of Brahms's Lullabye..:D

Ok, I've brought the food up to the bunk house...too cold and dark down on the beach and those pesky gnats!!!

So here's your evening repast...help yourselves and enjoy!

Steamed, stuffed lobsters with melted butter
Corn on the Cob
Baked potatoes
Grilled sausages
Sliced sirloin steak
Caesar salad
Strawberry shortcake and for those of you who really wish to get into the New England spirit...Indian Pudding (like gooey pumpkin pie without the crust) and homemade vanilla ice cream. (Thank you Logan!)
Coffee/espresso/cappas/tea and complimentary cordials

And please, wear your bibs, no dribbling your butter and take out the trash!

(Richard, remember to take your toys out of the pool before you go to bed!! And Gini, I saw those flashlights!! No reading in bed after midnight. Lights out means lights out!:D)

Sandra this spread is beyond words. You've worked really hard and your hospitality is greatly appreciated. Thank you, thank you soooo much and yes we'll leave the bunkhouse as clean as when we arrived.

I see all the shrimp cocktails have gone (Richard?????) so I'll just help myself to some lobster and salad. MMMMMM, as Martha says "It's a good thing", or I could quote Nigella but this is a family restaurant.

I think we are taking off pretty early tomorrow so how about a wake up call, say about 6am??? That will give everyone time to rise and shine and pack up.

Dead nosey, that's me
Hee, hee, that reminds me of the book Adrian Mole, from Minor to Major. All you Brits put "dead" in front of everything. Sorry, not making fun, it's just bringing back some memories for me. You're dead brilliant!.:D :D

It's like us Canadians. We put "eh" after everything. Dead brilliant, eh??

You're very welcome, ladies! 6am wake up call it is! And Lynne, my husband travels to England frequently. He came home after one trip and suddenly, everything was BRILLIANT!:D Kind of like our "cool," then "super," then "awesome"! lol!! Enjoy your dinner friends!

"Lullabye, and good night, la la la la, la la, la!!!":)

Um, that could be a bit of a problem. The trains don't stop here. The closest you can get is Kansas City. The bus doesn't even stop here anymore. You would have to rent cars or a bus and drive down.

Everyone bundle up. The temp is dropping and our highs will only be in the 40s or lower 50s and windy so the city has banned bon fires.
