I have been listening to sad songs a lot lately and I thought I would share some...

"Tough Little Boys"by Gary Allan
Well I never once
Backed down from a punch
Well I'd take it square on the chin
Well I found out fast
A bully's just that
You've got to stand up to him
So I didn't cry when I got a black eye
As bad as it hurt, I just grinned
But when tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again.

Scared me to death
When you took your first steps
And I'd fall everytime you fell down
Your first day of school, I cried like a fool
And I followed your school bus to town
Well I didn't cry, when Old Yeller died
At least not in front of my friends
But when tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again

Well I'm a grown man
And as strong as I am
Sometimes its hard to believe
That one little girl, with little blonde curls
Could totally terrify me
If you were to ask
My wife would just laugh
She'd say "I know all about men
How when tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again"

Well I know one day, I'll give you away
And I'm gonna stand there and smile
And when I get home, and I'm all alone
Well, I'll sit in your room for a while
Well I didn't cry when Old Yeller died
At least not in front of my friends
But when tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again
When tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again.

"Can You Hear Me When I Talk To You"by Ashley Gearing
Time passes by so quickly,
But I guess I thought you'd be here forever.
I never even had the chance,
To say goodbye.
There's so many things to tell you,
Left unsaid until now.

Can you hear me when I talk to you?
Do the words I say ever make it through?
Can you hear me when I talk to you?
'Cause I'd give anything if I just knew.

Ev'ry night, I have the same dream.
The one where you get to hold me.
We laugh an' talk until the morning,
An' then you vanish, yeah.
It always leaves me feeling helpless,
When I wake up an' you're not there.

Can you hear me when I talk to you?
Do you know how much I'd love to be with you?
Can you hear me when I talk to you?
'Cause I'd give anything if I just knew.

Living in this world without you,
I constantly search through my mem'ries.
Hoping that I find some treasures,
That I passed over, yeah.
All that I took for granted,
Means so much now, an' I won't let it go.

Can you hear me when I talk to you?
'Cause I never said somer things that I meant to.
Can you hear me when I talk to you?
'Cause I'd give anything if I just knew.

You know, I never said some things that I meant to.
Can you hear me when I talk to you?
'Cause I'd give anything if I just knew.

I miss you Daddy.

To me, I've always thought the saddest song is 'November Rain' by Guns N Roses (probably because of the video ... lyrics too I suppose). It's still one of my favorite songs.

"and when you go......gone.......
that's the time I fall in love.......
again...

all the things that she used to say,
all the things that got in the way,
all her favorite TV shows
gone out the window......" Sugar Ray

to me, that is a sad song

I absolutely LOVE "And So It Goes" by Billy Joel.

"And So It Goes" (Storm Front Released: 1989)

In every heart there is a room
A sanctuary safe and strong
To heal the wounds from lovers past
Until a new one comes along

I spoke to you in cautious tones
You answered me with no pretense
And still I feel I said too much
My silence is my self defense

And every time I've held a rose
It seems I only felt the thorns
And so it goes, and so it goes
And so will you soon I suppose

But if my silence made you leave
Then that would be my worst mistake
So I will share this room with you
And you can have this heart to break

And this is why my eyes are closed
It's just as well for all I've seen
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows

So I would choose to be with you
That's if the choice were mine to make
But you can make decisions too
And you can have this heart to break

And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows

*sigh*

I think one of the sadest songs is "Holes in the Floor of Heaven" by Steve Wariner

One day shy of eight years old
When grandma passed away
I was a broken hearted little boy
Blowing out that birthday cake
How I cried when the sky let go
With a cold lonesome rain
My mom smiled, said "Don't be sad child.
Grandma's watching you today."

Chorus
Cause there are holes in the floor of Heaven
And her tears are pouring down
That's how you know she's watching
Wishing she could be here now
Sometimes if you're lonely
Just remember she can see
There are holes in the floor of Heaven
And she's watching over you and me

Seasons come and seasons go
Nothing stays the same
I grew up, fell in love
Met a girl who took my name
Year by year we made a life
In this sleepy little town
I thought we'd grow old together
Lord, I sure do miss her now

Chorus
Cause there's holes in the floor of Heaven
And her tears are pouring down
That's how I know she's watching
Wishing she could be here now
Sometimes when I'm lonely
I just remember she can see
There are holes in the floor of Heaven
And she's watching over you and me

Well my little girl is 23
I walk her down the aisle
It's a shame her Mom can't be here now
To see her lovely smile
They throw the rice, I catch her eye
As the rain starts coming down
She takes my hand says, "Daddy don't be sad
Cause' I know Mama's watching now."

Chorus
There are holes in the floor of Heaven
And her tears are pouring down
That's how I know she's watching
Wishing she could be here now
Sometimes when I'm lonely
I just remember she can see
There are holes in the floor of Heaven
And she's watching over you and me.
