RICHARD

This is the Rodney King/CWAJGA special Thursday edition.

I reserve the right to do a Gini on this thread.

No name calling, no hassling, no BS -no kidding.

Freaking nerves have been frayed and I think we all need a moment to decompress....

I'll pull the pin on this sucker should things get out of hand and I will name the publicly name the culprit- no stupid gag orders or Nancy Grace BS this week......

It's a full tilt special Thursday's -COMING RIGHT AT YA!!!

Since we are done lobbing bombs at each other, it's time to absorb some personal damage....

the DOTD is an

A-Bomb

Equal parts: Kahlua, Baileys, Vodka & Tia Maria

Stir over ice & strain into pony or chilled cocktail glass

Check you 'cattitudes' at the door......I'm not in the mood this week;)

Give me an A-Bomb, too. It's been a long week even though it is only Tuesday.

Well, I'll be heading west on Friday. Going to California for a couple of days to take care of family business. One of those whirlwind trips that leave me totally exhausted (out on Friday-back on Sunday).

Hope you guys keep the weather nice until I can get there and enjoy some of it.

Have we decided on munchies yet? Don't know what I want to eat - it's one more decision I don't want to make today. Last week everyone came up with great ideas, so I was holding out to see what was the FOD (food of the day).

You know, since we're having sushi and A-bomb drinks, one could make the nuclear connection (hiroshima, nagasaki) and start a whole dog house thread on the merits of nuclear wars!!!:D Wouldn't that be a fun one!

I'm going to wait until Thursday or at least tomorrow, for my request. I stayed out of the fray, for once, so I'm not quite as anxious as some of you!

Helen and I, and a friend of hers, are getting ready to leave for a concert. We're going to the BiLo center, our local arena, to see Mercy Me and Michael W. Smith. For those of you who don't know, Mercy Me, is a Christian Rock band. Their most "famous" song, in my opinion, is "I Can Only Imagine", and it is played on contemporary stations here all the time, not just the Christian radio. Michael W. Smith is an ever popular Christian artist and songwriter as well. I think it will be great and the girls are excited too. It was intended to be part of my birthday present, and the tickets were purchased before we realized that Scott would be out of the country when it occured!! :o

Have a great Tuesday evening, folks. I'll see you on Thursday for my happy hour! ;)

We have a Todai here in Portland. On your birthday your dinner is free:D I don't know if I'd call the food high quality, but it is ok quality, especially when you can get two for the price of one with the birthday special.

I just love all the little bite-sized desserts.

I love Japanese food; it's so clean and healthy and looks beautiful.

I'll start with a couple of California rolls (do you have those in California??? :)) a big dollop of wasabe, and some tempura vegetables yum yum!

And a Japanese beer if you have one, sir!

I like today's Odd Spot - hide your cabbages!
Police in Yalta, Ukraine, have arrested a man caught with a gun and a cabbage he intended to use as a silencer. "Our officers just shrugged their shoulders, smiling, as they've never seen cabbage used as a silencer before," a police spokeswoman said.

as a cabbage you get gas.....no silence.

CA rolls, tempura veggies and wasabe....

A-Bomb sounds really good but it's too early right now for me, how about one of my Bloody's - I'll even make it (see what I get for living on the East Coast? Always have to re-open the next day) ;) Later on, however, a bomber and SUSHI! My favorite is Teka-Maki and of course extra wasabe. Hmmm, maybe I'll try some wasabe in my Bloody instead of horseradish! I'll let you guys know how it works :D

105 - wow, I only wanted nice not hot. Must be all that concrete keeping the temps up. Where my sister lives, there is very little grass.

Not everyone likes raw fish (can you imagine  ) so what if I whip up some Yakitori - chicken on a skewer - I have a nice marinade of Japanese sweet rice wine and sesame oil to put on it. Maybe some spring rolls as well. We can just nibble away instead of one big heavy meal :) I was thinking of Crispy shredded duck & noodle salad but didn't want to upset Nibbles, a nice little duck from another thread ;)

It is just about lunch time here on the East Coast, so I definitely want an order of sushi for myself (salmon California rolls) and a couple of small ones for "the gang" ... yes they have tried sushi and they LOVE the raw fish ;)

But it has been one of those weeks, after talking with the lawyers yesterday (sorry Cataholic) I definitely need at least one A-bomb, maybe two.

Don't worry Richard, we'll sneak behind the bar and fix our own drinks since you are busy. But please leave the barternder's manual - I can't remember all of the drink combinations:eek:

Joke time:
You are one of *two* people on a malfunctioning airplane with only one parachute. How would you react?

Bureaucrat: you order them to conduct a feasibility study on parachute use in multi-engine aircraft under code red conditions.

Lawyer: you charge one parachute for helping them sue the airline.

Internal Revenue Service: you confiscate the parachute along with their luggage, wallet, and gold fillings.

Economics: you plot a demand curve by asking them, at regular intervals, how much they would pay for a parachute.

Psychoanalysis: you ask them what the shape of a parachute reminds them of.

Republican: as you jump out with the parachute, you tell them to work hard and not expect handouts.

Democrat: you ask them for a dollar to buy scissors so you can cut the parachute into two equal pieces.

Libertarian: after reminding them of their constitutional right to have a parachute, you take it and jump out.

Sports Fan: you start betting on how long it will take to crash.

Association of Tobacco Growers: you explain very patiently that despite a number of remarkable coincidences, studies have shown no link whatsoever between airplane crashes and death.

I'll take one of those A-bombs Richard! Sounds wonderful...except...I've got a final this evening and somehow I think I should save the A-bomb for after the final. ;) :D

Oh, and in reference to another thread....I find sushi offensive. No really, I do! I think it's gross - eating raw fish, who ever heard of such a thing! 'Course I don't like fish even if it's cooked so my opinion might be a little biased. ;) :D And even better yet, since I don't want any, that leaves that much more for you guys! :D

Speaking of lunch....

Oh, and I got these in an email and I've been saving them so here goes....hope no one is offended....

1. Two peanuts walk into a bar. One was a salted.

2. A jumper cable walks into a bar. The barman says "I'll serve you, but don't start anything."

Some musicians from the 60's have re-released some of their old hits... at the risk of offending other oldster's for making fun - or youngster's for not knowing who in the [heck] these musicians even ARE, I'll start the juke-box with some of these:

Ringo Starr - "I Get By With A Little Help From Depends"

Marvin Gaye - "I Heard It Through The Grape Nuts"

Procol Harem - "A Whiter Shade Of Hair"

Johnny Nash - "I Can't See Clearly Now"

Leo Sayer - "You Make Me Feel Like Napping"

ABBA - "Denture Queen"

I bet you've experienced snorp-to-conciousness. A word which is best described by the visual - you are falling asleep in front of the TV, just starting to snore, when your subconciously hear yourself starting to snore and...well....snorp-to-conciousness. :D In other words you wake yourself up with one last snort which was really supposed to be a snore before it was so rudely interrupted. :D

Laurie. :D :D Those are great! :D :D

Richard, yes, we had an aquarium, but I actually think it has to do with the fact that my dad was an avid fisherman. I still to this day cannot put a worm on a hook, or touch a slimy fish to take it off the hook. And I've seen way too many of them cleaned....won't even go into details about that.....eeeewwww.

:D

Can I just have a teensy taste of the A-Bomb to help my brain soak up all this school stuff I'm trying to cram into it?

Hey, wait!!! I'm done with my test and ready for a full blown A-Bomb!!! Come back........

Oh well, I've got some wine I got at the Amana Colonies two weeks ago so I guess that'll have to suffice until the barkeep gets back tomorrow.

You know, I realized why I like this place. There are no attitudes. Everyone is welcome and everyone has a good time.

Cass, enjoy your Jack - never touch the stuff myself, too many bad tales to tell when Jack was involved.....

I gotta go, Tubby's going downstairs to eat, maybe I can finally get a video of him yowling....

See you all tomorrow...oh, and I don't think I did too bad on the test...can't wait for the A-bomb tomorrow....

No sushi today... wasn't it written in Poor Richard's Almanac (no relation, maybe both poor and certainly both witty and clever but still...) written that company & fish tend to stink after 3 days. I'll whip up some more Japanese appetizers for starters and we can take it from there. Gini's recipe for Cornish Pasties sounded good but perhaps now is neither the time nor place  I first heard of Cornish Pasties in "The Cat Who..." series. Love those books! This is just to let you know that we are completely OUT of sushi, and it is only Thursday early AM here.

Now I could whip up a batch of Cornish Pasties, but I don't want to be thrown out of the bar and out of PT, so I won't.

This is going to be a really good Thursday - lots of new customers.
Wait until they find out how much fun we have.

Could someone help me out in the kitchen later? I really made a mess with all of that rice and fish.

When I typed that, I thought "somebody is going to say something, Logan". How right I was!!! LOL!!! :D

It reminds me of my conversation with Scott on the day of our first date. We had just left Sunday School and he pulled me aside to talk about our evening plans. Gini, I didn't realize the fires were that close to you :( I'm so sorry. I'll dress up early for Halloween and be an Indian so I can start a rain dance. gini
10-24-2003, 10:56 AM
Laurie, the fires are not that close to my home - but because the sky is dark to the north and a wierd golden in the south, gives you an idea of how severe the fires are. The Santa Ana winds are only whipping them up even more.

When I was little, I too played cowboys and indians with my friends. But, I always wanted to be the animal - a deer. I haven't thought about that in years.

I've got a Cherokee and a Sioux down the line on my family tree. I don't know if knowing the rain dance is inherited but would be willing to give it a go to see if it would help you folks in California out. In my younger days I could shake a leg but haven't tried in years.

May I have a ginger ale with a cherry dropped in it, Please???????? oh, the cats said their catnip tea yesterday, was the best ever and send head bumpies to the bar keep. :D

Sorry Catland, Gini & I were just being nostalgic and next thing you know we're down on the floor playing jacks. For penance I'll take on the bathrooms *yuck*

Gini, I'm sorry to hear about the fires. :( I hope everyone will stay safe! It looks rather serious.

A Red Flag Fire Warning has been issued for Los Angeles County and surrounding areas. High temperatures, low humidity and gusty canyon winds raise the fire danger.
These extreme conditions will be in effect through the weekend.

This is a scene from the "Grand Prix" Fire, currntly burning in the Lytle Creek area North of Fontana. The wind is gusting to about 40 MPH and is blowing south off of the mountains into residential areas.

Are the fires anywhere near Whittier? That is where my family lives,so just curious.

gini

Luckies4me......no, the fires are not near Whittier. If you go into Yahoo maps and type in Whittier - and then click east to the 210 and 15 freeways, where they intersect........that is where the fires are now.

I am in the heart of Los Angeles - and now there is no sunlight, only grey.

They are advising us to stay indoors and keep animals in as well.

I just heard that they are seeing a lot of wildlife now, bobcats, etc. and they are singed. And as they come down into the foothills from the mountain areas that are burning, it could become even more dangerous for firefighters and others.

We have the Santa Ana winds each year at this time and that is why it is so unusually hot. They expect these winds to continue through Sunday. This is not good.

Catland, sorry about the squid on the floor. That stuff is so gross, I kept dropping it.

And the Cornish pasties on the ceiling - well Richard kept bugging me to work faster, faster - we had such a crowd this week! I got disgusted and just threw up my hands! I had no idea they would stick to the ceiling.

Now for what's under the tables - hey, it wasn't me!! I was in the kitchen all day!

I am really pooped, but I will pitch in and help clean up too.

[Am I allowed to say pooped?]

Moff,
ginger ale w/cherry..

NO SPLITS!!!! okay?

bumpies back atcha!!!

Done.

Randi,

every few years this happens.....and the fires are usually started by arsonists.
The speed, sounds and heat from a fire like that are some of the scariest things you can ever experience. Think of standing next to a train track while the train, on fire, passes within a few feet of where you are standing..

thanks for the concern!

The fires are out by whittier, but not a prob there...

Come on Laurie, let's take a break and go out on the terrace and play jacks. I am a bit rusty here, can you remind me how to play?

I am thirsty too.........but I am not demanding this morning, only want a good cup of coffee and some milk.

You can practice with one-zies then two-zies while I make us a PB&J sandwich (on white bread of course) and bring us each a glass of ice cold milk :p Gracious me, THIS conversation should be safe enough  Maybe Catland or Soledad can take a break and play the winner :D Richard?

Don't cut those crusts or I'll toss you out of the kitchen...:p

fresh or nothing..

Finally an easy drink to mix!!!

Geeze, if you are too lazy to make a PB&J sandwich, you shouldn't be allowed out of bed in the morning.

Cut off the crusts? Heck no, all of the jam gets squeezed to the edge and that's the good part.

I'd love to play the winner in jacks- just as soon as I get this stuff off of the seats.

No more bubble-gum in the bar. This stuff is disgusting to scrape off.

OK you all, it's now 8:20 about, in the evening on a Friday night.. I'm here watching my son and D-in-law playing Jacks on my living room floor. I in a way told them about todays Happy Hour and doG did I let myself in for it  they are trying to out-do each other in JACKS. (I just happened to have a set of Jacks and TWO rubber bouncy balls in a drawer) Geez, wait until we get into pick-up-sticks or my favorite - HOP SCOTCH  Now they are playing by Calvin Rules..it's going to be a loooong night

sorry to get off the immediate subject but this is just too funny listening to son & DIL having a serious discussion over Jacks I need to get a life I guess

Jam n Jacks at Laurie's house!!!

I draw the line at kick the can though............(Laurie, you could suggest this if you want to get them out of the house for a while.:D :D )

Glad to hear that you have a household that gets right into the spirit of things and doesn't make fun of you and Pet Talk.

The only ones that really understand are my neighbors (Rusty's Mom and Dad).

Everyone else thinks I am crazy or just humor me.

Have a great weekend!
