Poor poor man lol. They have showed his face so many times already. Did anyone watch the game and see what happened? Some guy in the stadium reached for a ball, causing the Cubs team to miss catching the ball, which they would have caught if the man hadn't interfeared. They had to escort the man out.

I was listening on the radio at work, the cubbies jinx seems to be materializing once again. First that guy interferes, then they give up EIGHT runs in one inning!!!! I'm still rooting for the cubs though, one more chance tomorrow;) .....tom

Ah yes, Dan and I had a long talk about superstitions and curses tonight. :p

Yes, my hubby and I were watching when it happened. If that guy would have not touched the ball, the left fielder could have caught the ball. But Nooooooooo that dude tried to catch the ball... and so the guy up to bat got another chance and that's when the Marlins started the rally that won them the game
:(

I want the Cubs to win tonight!!!!!

Then I want to see the Cubs play Boston next and I would like to see the Cubs win it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were watching!! Ugh!! I couldn't believe it. Poor guy; he must awful. It sure did start into motion a series of calamaites!! 8 runs in one innning and so close to victory! I hope they win tonight then play the Yankees!!:D They'll be a lot of baseball watching here today!

I saw it and I know exactly how Cubs fans feel. In the 1997 ACLS, the Orioles were playing the Yankees and some stupid 12 year old punk reached WAY out over the side of the stadium and caught a ball that would've not even gone outside the park for a homerun had he left it alone, and so the Yankees got a homerun - a pretty sizeable one if I remember correctly. The kid was hailed as a hero up in New York City. It was unbelieveable. But yeah, after that happened, the O's were totally deflated and the Yankees won the Series. It was sickening.

I'm hoping the Cubs can pull it out tonight, but I'm afraid they've been completely deflated too. If you see the Marlins vs. the Yankees in the World Series, you'll see the interest drop to next to nothing. But if somehow the World Series has either the Cubs or the Red Sox in it (or both!), you'll see probably the biggest ratings ever! People are SICK of the Yankees! People want someone else to win other than the Yankees. It ain't just me either.

Anyway... that was a really stupid move on that "fan's" part and he should be embarrassed. I don't feel bad for him - he completely caused the unraveling to happen. If he hadn't interfered, Alou would've caught the ball and they would've had 4 outs to go to get to the World Series. Instead, his interference made the Marlins tie the game and deflate the Cubs and the Marlins took major advantage of that and thus the final score. If I were the Commissioner of MLB, I'd fine that guy (or try to anyway, lol!).

*crossing fingers for a Cubs win tonight*

I was wondering when the Yankee bashing would begin!!:D Actuallly, though I'm a born and bred New Yorker and die hard Yankee fan, I wouldn't mind seeing the Cubs win. ANYONE but the Red Sox!!:p

Sorry! Nothing personal, I just hate the Yankees. (I'm an Orioles fan and all self-respecting Orioles fans hate the Yankees.) I hate the players, I hate the coaches, I hate the owner, I hate the "legacy," I hate it all.

Here's how much I hate the Yankees: I was in love with Mike Mussina. I even got to meet him and I was so flustered and nervous, he said "Hi Jaime, nice to meet you" and I squeaked and that was it - didn't even say "hi" back. But when he went to the Yankees...? Man, that was like the worst thing he could've ever done. And now, the man I once loved and adored, I now loathe and detest - all because he wears pinstripes. It brings me joy to see him have a bad outing.

Yeah, so... I'll try not to hold the fact that you're a Yankees fan against you, but I can't promise anything! ;) No I'm kidding... the only time I hate the fans are when they come to Camden Yards and it sounds like I'm in the Bronx. Ugh. Oh yeah, and when 12-year old punks interfere with an in-play ball. :D

I'm just guessing here, but, I think you hate the Yankees???;) Wow, I didn't think anyone could hate the Yankees like a Bostonian, but you might just hold that distinction:D But I can take it...seems everyone loves to hate the Yankees and New York! Actually, next to the Yankees, my favorite team is the Orioles! Brooks Robinson is one of my all time favorites and a real hero! I remember as a little kid being glued to the TV watching the rivalry/playoffs between the Yankees and Orioles on TV. We didn't want either team to lose! So, can't say I hold your allegiance against you. But I still love my Yankees!:) And we do have the best uniforms!:p

Oh don't get me wrong - I LOVE New York City! I just hate the Yankees. With a passion. No, a burning passion. I am right up there with Bostonians with my hatred of the Yankees. Actually, you know what I think it is? I just hate powerhouses, that are in the post-season/championships all the time. Like Florida State. I loathe Florida State football. So yeah, once the Yankees suck again (oh pleeeeeeease, let that happen soon!), I will still hate them, just not as much!

You redeemed yourself a little with liking the Orioles though, tatsaxx11. Brooksie is a hero here in Maryland. Oh, how I long for the day when we're a good, solid, consistent team again!!! These last 6 years have been horrible!! Gotta get Angelos and his stupid sons out of the decision-making arena though, before that'll happen. *sigh*

And the Yankees uniform is NOT the best!! Blech, pinstripes. DUMB!!!! :D

GOOO CUBBIES!!!!! I love the cubs. I remember watching them when Mark Grace, Ryne Sandberg, Ray Sanchez, Andre Dawson, Rick Wilkins, and Stever Buchelle was on the team....man those were the good ol (losing) days!!! ;) BTW did anyone see them flash over to Andre Dawson last night a couple times? I'm a die hard Cubbies fam...born just outside of Chicago and couldn't help but to like them since my parents and grandparents were always rooting for them! They can pull it off tonight...then off to play the Sox ( I hope). !!!!!:) :D :D

stupid kid. Sorry, but he needs to be put on a stage and taunted by cubs fans. Actually, I feel for him because if the Cubs lose tonight, he'll never live it down. He may as well have been walking around with a goat on a leash last night.

Hey, Yankee hating isn't reserved for you east coasters, there are some folks out west that HATE the yankees, Mariner fans can't stand them!!! I'll give you credit though, you field a good team every year:rolleyes: .
I don't think this is the year though, Cubbies vs. Red Sox in the 2003 world series:p ......tom

BTW, what did you do to Jeff Nelson up there in N.Y.? He was a good citizen when he was in Seattle......

Wow, you guys are relentless!!;) Ok, you come live in Boston for a while and THEN tell me what you think of those sweet Sox fans!! I have to drive around staring at bumper stickers proclaiming "YANKEES SUCK!":D Actually, I half hope the Red Sox DO win so they can finally stop their WHINNNNNNNNNING!!! Now, if the Yankees lose this afternoon, I'm gonna blame all of you for jinxing them!!;) 2 hours and counting! Finally, some baseball fans to mix it up with!!:) Go Cubbies, Go Yankees!!

I just heard a little bit about the cubs curse, I am told it has to do with an old guy who brought his goat to the game and was refused admission because the goat stank, so he stood outside and put a curse on the cubs, THE CURSE OF THE GOAT:D  ....tom

Last I looked, it was 6-4. Unfortunately. I still maintain they suck though, as "suck" in my vocabulary means that I hate them. LOL Like when I say asparagus sucks. I'm sure it's very good for you, but to me, it tastes the equivalent of a butt or something. Anything I don't like, sucks! Therefore, I stand by my "Yankees suck!" statement!! :p LOL :D

I know, but....

I guess it's because I grew up with the Packers who were always going to win "next year." Well, they finally won, and I was so hoping the Cubbies would follow through too, but oh well.....there's always next year.....:(

(bottom of the 8th now, and 9 - 6 Marlins)

(oh, and btw, I had mentioned I had to take a test tonight for school - didn't happen, have to take it tomorrow night instead when there's not such a distraction on TV ;) )

How heartbreking for the Cubbies and their fans:( They were SO excited:( I had to walk out of the room in the 9th. I'd have loved a final with the Cubs burying the Red Sox. But I can't even imagine a Marlins/ Red Sox world series...blech!! No way Pedro's going to lose 2 post season games in a row. Yuck! Ick! Ugh!

tomkatzid
10-16-2003, 09:35 AM
I don't know though, Pedro is not pitching as well as he did regular season, I think he does better with the extra days rest. I'm thinking yankees now after really thinking about this. As a true mariner fan, both teams are on my hate list, after all, the red sox swept my m's 4 straight late in the year and that seemed to take the wind right out of our sails.

Should be a great game!!!!............tom

Hmmmmm, all you Yankee haters are strangely silent!; But I admit it, even I thought we were goners. I almost turned the TV off at the top of the 8th.!! There has to be something to that curse! Even I feel badly for Red Sox fans! BUT I'M GLAD WE WON!!:D

They are silent today, aren't they Sandra;)
I was almost asleep on my couch as well, top of the eighth, but I sprang up and stayed wide awake until the 11th--but I had to stay quiet, because my husband and all 4 dogs were asleep!!!!!
My husband didn't want the Yanks to win either, he is sick of them, he thought the first 7 innings were great--he about died when I came to bed and told him they pulled it off!!!!!!

It was a great game though, the Red Sox definitely are a great team--tough to beat that Yankees Mystique!!!!!

Richard, try that humble pie warmed up with a scoop of ice cream; it goes down easier!;) But not to worry, a possible 7 more games, 63 innings, to indulge that hatred!:D I heard Zimmy say today that he's packin' it in at the end of the year. He's "sick of being treated like an ---hole!!!!" And he wasn't talking about the Red Sox, he was talking about Yankee management!:D Hey, I never said I liked the guys upstairs!

You're right about that Yankee mystique, Em! Plus, they've always got the better looking players.:D And what's up with those Red Sox and their shaved heads and scruffy goat-tees?? Ick! They look like they belong on a chain gang! I know, the solidarity/brotherhood thing. I was so happy for Aaron Brown, hitting the winning home run. The Red Sox commentators and fans were so indignant that they were beaten by such a 2nd string lacky!!:p Maybe, but what a cutie:D

Don't be picking on Mussina:p
I think he did a fabulous job, but besides for the homerun hitter, my hero last night was Mariano Rivera (don't know if I spelled that one right)--he is an awesome closing pitcher!!!!! And he seems like a genuinely good guy.

I think it is about time for Zimmer to hang it up--remember a few years ago when he got pelted by the ball in the dugout??
As long as Torre stays, I'm happy!!

Oh, and Sandra, about the better looking players--you're right!!!!
Mussina is not too shabby looking, and don't even get me started on Jeter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
To Boston's defense, Nomar Garcioparra isn't too bad looking either!!

As for Mussina... he isn't too bad-looking. HOWEVER, once he takes his hat off, he looks like the biggest goof. I always said if I ever slept with him, I'd make him keep his hat on. LOL!

Derek Jeter will forever remind me of exactly what he said of himself when he hosted SNL a couple years ago. He was dressed up as a ditzy girl and "she" and her girlfriends were talking about hot baseball players and when someone mentioned him, he/"she" said, "Eww, Derek Jeter? I had a feeling this is the way it would turn out. Boston spends MONEY getting a better bullpen and then they don't use it!
What kills me is us true Mariner fans wanted one of two guys, Pudge Rodriguez or Aaron Boone, of course the CHEAP Mariners don't get either one, and look who the two heroes are so far, Pudge for the Marlins and Aaron for the Yankees!!!!!
It absolutely pains me to say it, but since Brett Boone is such a good Mariner, I have to go with his brother Aarons team, so, I can't believe I am saying this, GO YANKEES:p ......tom
