Graham has had this strange, black scab that goes away and comes back for the past 1.5 or so months. When I brush the scab off him by accident he bleeds ALOT and it never seems to heal. The scab looks like nothing I have ever seen, it's black and shiny like a tick but it's clearly a scab. When it does come off, he bleeds alot but I can't ever find why he's bleeding, it seems like there is no cut. It's on his belly button. Tonight I'm taking him to the vet because it's a strange little thing. I am sure it's nothing but please wish me luck anyway.

Good luck Graham, I know going to the vet isn't most doggies' favorite thing, but be good so mama doesn't worry!

Sounds a little like the sebacious cyst that Hannah had.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the well wishes. I am pretty sure it's just a stubborn wound but since it's been either bleeding or scabbing for close to 2 months the vet was a bit concerned. They shaved the area around the wound and there is this weird little hole in his skin that I could not see before. They gave him antibiotics and told me that if it's not healed by the end of the antibiotic treatment he should have that hole removed and sent in for biopsy. The vet was pretty sure it would heal with the antibiotics. I'll be sure and let you know if it finally heals.

Bella, my weimaraner has the same thing on her chest. She also has had it for several months. The black scabby part falls off but grows back. Our vet opted to immediately remove it and send it in for a biopsy. She is going in on Monday. She likes to suntan on the balcony and we were worried that the sun had caused it.
RachelJ, What is a sebacious cyst and how was it cared for?

Sorry I'm late posting. Hope all goes well with Graham, and that the antibiotics help. These things are so scary. I hope they do biopsy it anyway though, just to be sure.

Kachuma....A sebaceous cyst is a fluid filled cyst that is benign. Very common in dogs and humans.

Killian has had a few cysts removed in his lifetime, but nothing described like that. I hope all goes well.

Hannah's healed up in 2 days with antibiotics.

The one I had was more of a problem and it was finally removed last Tuesday.
