His Marine Corps Unit came home Sunday. It was just amazing to watch all the reunions. I went to see Joey up in California when his Battalion first got back into the States a couple weeks ago. There were so many family and friends gathered at the base waiting for the police escorted busses carrying there Marines home from the airport.

Such a huge welcome home for all these Marines. It was wonderful. Only me, his Dad, his sister, her baby(our new neice that he hadn't seen yet), and his best friend came to the base to pick him up. The rest of the family was waiting back at his house. We didn't want to overwhelm him too much at first....although, he did say he was kinda overwhelmed, but in a good way.

We were on the news. I knew the news crew thought the baby he was holding was his and not his neice and the lady crying next to him his wife and not his sister so they came to interview us. They talked to him, his sister and his Dad. I was just waiting for the news lady to stick the microphone in my face and ask how I felt as his fiancee' about him coming home. Thankfully, she didn't.

So we saw ourselves on the news later on. There's the clip with Joey's sister and one of me and his Dad while his Dad was talking about leaving all of our yellow ribbons up in show of suport for all the other troops still over there.

It's so good to have him home. I woke up Sunday morning and spied an empty coffee cup from his favorite coffee house on the dressor, tripped over his shoes on the way to the bathroom because of course his shoes would be in the middle of the floor, put away all his shaving gear that he of course left out in the bathroom, and picked his clothes up off the floor. Yep, he's home! ;) :p :D :D :D

edit because in my excitement I said he came home Sunday...he came home Saturday :)

Thanks everyone! I am happy. I swear I have this big goofy grin plastered to my face.

Before I got my license(and boy was he ever so pleased to find out I got my drivers license whike he was gone!) Joey would bring me to work every morning and we'd always have coffee at this little coffee shop across from my work.

The ladies who worked there came to know us as Sleeping Beauty and the Cop(the names are another story altogether ;) ) and knew our drink orders etc.. Well, when he left they'd always tell me to tell him hello and that they were praying for him. We stopped by this morning because I told him that KayKay and Charlotte, the two ladies who work at the coffee shop, wanted to see him.

I don't think he was expecting their absolute joy at seeing him. They screamed gave him a big hug, kept telling him how proud they were of him and how they prayed for his safe return home. He finally got some good coffee(on the house of course). They made such a big deal that everyone in the coffee shop knew he was a Marine returning home from Iraq. While we drank our coffee, complete strangers came up to him and thanked him for his service to our country and told him how happy they were that he returned home safely. I don't think he was expecting that. It made me feel so good to see him appreciated like that and I know it made him feel good also.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Tiff, I read your post above and I too, got tears in my eyes.

I am not sure if the rest of the world understands how we feel about our servicemen being in Iraq.

But the reaction of the coffee shop gals, I would think would be typical. We want our men HOME and safe - and we are very proud of them.

Your sharing has given us for a moment - a great deal of joy.

Congratulations!!!! I'm so happy he made it home safe and sound, and got such a big welcome too! :D

When they announced some of the guys were coming home for some R & R, I was wondering if he would be among those, but it sounds like he's home for good instead - which is even better.

You've made my day with this wonderful news! :D

Isn't it amazing the things that annoy us SO much, mean SO much when they're not around?

Welcome back Joey!! You are truly a hero.

It's so good to have him home. Although, he's still adjusting to being back. He had to report to his unit in Baton Rouge for more out processing this morning and he'll be back tomorrow afternoon. I know it's only for a day, but I hated him leaving this morning. I just got him back, I didn't want to let him go. Silly, I know.
Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts.

Dakotas Mommy: How are you? How's Brian? Have you heard from him lately?

Dakotas Mommy: How are you? How's Brian? Have you heard from him lately?

Brian seems to be doing okay! He just really wants to come home! I did finally get to talk to him at 2 am on Monday morning and talk for 1/2 an hour. This is only the 3rd phone call we've had since he left. The other 2 were only about 3 to 5 minutes long, and this one we finally got to talk for about 30 minutes! It was so wonderful. He sounded really tired and wore out though. Still no news as to when his unit might return, I'm really hoping we get good news soon, but I doubt it!
