As most of you know, buying things for the kitties is usually futile and a waste of money. They usually end up playing with the box the item came in more than with the toy itself. For years and years I have resisted the urge to buy such things for my two. Well, what is it now, about a year ago (?) that I bought what has come to be known as a carpet condom here on PT for Tubby. Peanut took it over so I had to buy Tubby one of his own. They absolutely love these things, so I guess my success made me bold.....

I bought them some Purr Pads. Tubby likes to sit in his "crows nest" and I thought the carpet condom might not work the best in that spot. I thought something completely flat might work better - thus the Purr Pads. Well, no such luck with these things. Last night Tubby was by me. He jumped down, went over to lay in his "crows nest," came upon the purr pad, sniffed at it and walked away.

When I first brought them out of the box, Peanut did do the "happy feet" aka "making bread" on hers so I thought she would like it. Later in the evening she was laying in the corner like she likes to do, so I thought that would be a good spot for it. I put it there for her. Next time I look....

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but if she isn't trying to tell me something......  Terry says neither one of the snots has even come close to them today, so they'll get one more trial run tonight. If it's the same like last night, they're going back! :D You would think I would know better by now. ;) :D

I don't think Peanut would do very much to enhance their sales! :D Too funny! :D

Cats can be so completely mean, ignoring the things we buy them, can't they? The purr pads are one of the only things our cats like - they totally ignore most of the toys we get them.

But I must ask - the carpet condom??

And here's Tubby in his.

They love these things and are in them all the time. Guess I'll be returning the purr pads and buying at least one more carpet condom. :D

LOL, Peanut is SO beautiful and your gorgeous Tubby looks so relaxed and comfortable. You're making me think I need to rush out tomorrow and buy some of these carpet condoms!

make sure you don't try too hard. We've learned with our gang that they never like presents. However, they do tend to like things that they have a chance to "discover" a day or two later.

BEWARE!!!! I have learned that just because they like the carpet condoms it's not a given that they will like the purr pads, and I'm sure it works the other way around too. As an example, from what I understand, Ritzy, our resident tuxie model, adores the purr pad, but will have nothing to do with the carpet condom.

So my suggestion.....save your money. ;) :D ;) :D

If one were inclined to buy some -- errr -- carpet condoms, what would be the -- ahem -- appropriate name to ask for? I'm -- uhhm -- not sure either my husband or I would be quite sure what questions to ask at the store.

:D I think you're right! You definitely need a different name for them when purchasing! Otherwise, you might get thrown out of the store!!! :o

Yes, I agree that cats can be very difficult to buy for and mine are also quite picky. Some of you may remember the cat condo that I bought for Sunny's 2nd birthday present. Here's a picture.

Here Sunny seems upset that Storm is in the condo. This was the first day that I had it. After this day, none of my cats would even touch it. I later moved it back to my bedroom and they still ignored it. I thought that I had made another bad cat gift purchase. It wasn't until I adopted Cirrus that things changed for the better.:)

After Cirrus decided that it was a great bed, then Sunny and Storm also decided that it was a great bed too. :)

Sky also loves it but I don't have a pic of him in it. :) I guess my point is that sometimes it just takes some time for cats to accept some of the gifts that we buy them. BTW Storm loves purr pads too. :)

Hey! Great idea!! Hadn't thought about that, and I bet they work great because they are supposed to electrostatically attract pet dander, dust and such. Hmmm....I know just the spot that needs one of these. :D

And KAK, those might be plain ol' cardboard boxes, but the lining looks pretty spiffy! :D

Well, last night Peanut walked onto hers, paused for a second then continued on without so much as a sniff. I'm going to put a towel down for Tubby in his "crows nest" and I think he'll be happy again, and I guess if Peanut likes the floor so much....well....she can just keep using it then. ;) :D

I wish I had your problem! Pixel plays with anything we give her ... and everything we DON'T give her to play with e.g. venitian blinds, lamps, carpet, electrical cords etc etc ...

Tubby and Peanut are very cute, not to mention KAK's fabulous four!

Yup, yougot that right - anything "sheepy looking" is snubbed by the black-tie princess...yet for whatever reason, the purpadds were a huge hit at our house. I will say, however that I bought two of them and placed one in the office window...instant hit. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid52/p3090eae1a5f8e7738d3b69b5e72f8530/fc94ba21.jpg
then, I put theother on "her" favorite sofa downstairs to keep the furfest a little more manageable

Well, she wanted NOTHING to do with the one on the sofa. She would sleep near it, on the back of the couch above it, and finally scooted under it and shoved it onto the floor...

For about 3 months, it became a "plaything"...a place under which to to run and hide, with butt and tail protruding. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid52/p3193d16305c79482100744eff24b6fca/fc94b4eb.jpg Eventually, my spouse placed the purr padd back on the sofa and now she actually sleeps on it.

The "faux sheepskin" toy and tunnel received only the ceremonial "air burial" that Ritz reserves for things that she, well, apparently thinks smell like poo ("air burial" is the act of litter box scratching, only outside the litter box---this is also her reaction to catnip)

I've learned my lesson...other than fake fur mousies and the purrpad phenomenon (and the mice have to be made from REAL fur, mind you, none of that synthetic stuff) my money was wasted:rolleyes:

And from a practical standpoint, I don't understand the appeal of the purrpadd.....it feels and looks like a furnace filter or one of those scrub pads you use to polish linoleum!

awwwww

Peanut looks so cute cuddled next to her purr pad...

You may want to give them some time... espically when it gets cooler they may want to lay on it more.

When I bought Tinky hers she ignored it for a long time.... I actually gave up hope and gave the other one to my co-worker.. and his cats LOVED it.

she made a good effort not to sit on it but couldn't resist being under it... much like Mizz. Ritzy...

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid19/pc513e62e78c2ad6bba52fdef5a3865f7/fdc3530d.jpg

Tinky now likes the purr pad if I set it on the kitchen floor by the glass door....

But Jupiter LOOOVES it!!!! But in my own shock.. I don't have any pictures of him sittin on it... he lays on it all the time.... oh well!

Sara I love the second picture especially (the tiny one) of Tinky. She looks so sweet and appears to be sound asleep under her purr pad. What a cute picture! :)

I have never bought a purr pad. I just never gave it a thought. I bought a fleecy kitty bed many years ago which they ignored. It came in handy when we got Bella in 2001 and she slept in it for a couple of weeks until she outgrew it. After that I took it to the basement (where all of our useless stuff goes  ) and what did I find? Andy sleeping in it! He has claimed it as his very own and frequently takes his afternoon naps down there snoozing happily away. That said, maybe the kitties will at some point in the future show an interest in the purr pads. Who knows what goes on in those little kitty minds. :)

Good and bad news on the Purr Pad front. I haven't picked the pads up yet since some of you mentioned that it might take a little time for the kitties to get used to them. So last night Tubby went over, sniffed his....then layed down on it!!! I had to quick poke Terry and tell him to look! :D And he must have stayed on it for quite awhile, because he didn't even come crawl in bed when we finally went to bed, and he always crawls in bed with me, so maybe he was thinking the pad was to comfy to leave. Ok, it's going back! This time because it's taking my Tubby away from me. ;) :D (just kidding)

So that's the good news, the bad news is I moved Peanut's to another of her favorite spots, and once again I found her laying right next to it instead of on it. I picked her up and put her on it, but as soon as I take my hands off her she leaves. :D

So I guess after all this I'll be keeping them if Tubby continues to use his. If Peanut continues to not like them, I'll just find another favorite spot of Tubby's and put it there so he can have two of them. :D

Years ago when we got a "condom carpet" for Fister, he jumped in immediately. After he got his new bed, we put it under our bed. To begin with, he was in it all the time, but lately, he's laying right next to it. We have moved it to different spots, but to no avail. I guess he just likes to change his sleeping spots now and again. One thing is sure - he likes to sleep where he can lean his head on something!

Peanut looks adorable on that picture! :p

LOL! I love the look on Sunny's face where Storm is in the condo. :D

This is one of her favorite spots. Don't know what about that particular spot attracts her, but she loves laying right there. After I put the purr pad down, she layed next to it, or somewhere else for a few nights, but I guess the favorite spot won out over avoiding the dreaded purr pad. ;) :D

Guess they're not going back. :D

Tubby is laying on his right now as I type. I think it might help that it's getting a little cooler outside and we haven't turned the heat on yet so it's a little cooler than normal in the house these days. But hey, whatever it takes, right? ;) :D

Aaw lucky Peanut. A personal purr pad on your very own special spot on the floor!

You know it's funny, but since this thread started none of our cats have been on their purr pads. They are normally very popular with Jessica and Samantha, although I have never seen Daisy on one; she always prefers her bed. Do you think they know that I told you all that the purr pads were very popular in our house and now the cats are thinking "hehehe ... we'll show you!" :D

15 minutes ago I noticed Samantha happily curled up on top of a pile of ironing on the settee in preference to her purr pad!! Serves me right for leaving it in such a tempting spot, I suppose.

Debbie, I am glad that Peanut finally liked her purrpad. Reading the beginning of the thread, I thought that it would be a good idea to make a fleecy cover for it. Juni likes anything made of fleece. This is her pillow (is the same fabric I used for the pillows I made for Eddie and Edwina)
