I'm shopping for a new cat tree, since both of mine have the corners scratched down to the bare wood (both are ten years old or older). What do you like/dislike about your current tree? I'd like to see pictures of some different trees, and your cats enjoying them. I know some people on here have some great trees!

All I can say is that I want a tree for my cats.

Here is my current tree. See the corners and bottom are totally scratched away, and making a mess. I thought the cats would like to scratch on the real wood tree parts, but they never do. They like to sleep in the top perch and the kitty cup, but hardly ever go in the box with the hole. Hanna will sleep in the tube, but the other two cats never do. My other cat tree is a 4 level rectangle box with holes, and it really isn't that stable. Hanna uses that one, but the otehr two cats are wary - they never go on it.

My dad made my cat tree for me and I covered the perches with carpet myself. It is fairly easy to do with two people and a good staple gun. Maybe you could revive yours with new carpet? I bought a large carpet remnant at a carpeting store for $10 and there is enough to cover my tree at least twice. Also, you could use sisal rope to cover the rough, worn wood if your cats are fond of sisal.

Just a suggestion. Here's a pic of the tree my dad made. I and my cats love it.

Jazzcat, I remember admiring the tree your dad built before. It is so lovely. How do you make those parts curve, though?

Thanks!

The perches and the tunnel are made of 12 inch in diameter Sono Tube that can be bought at stores like Home Depot. It is made of a really strong cardboard and sometimes covered with a wax coating. The tunnel is made of a whole piece of Sono Tube but the two perches are a whole piece cut in half long ways. If that isn't clear here is a link to the website with the cat tree plans my dad used. It explains it much better.

I just recarpeted mine. Its very simple to do. It might save you some time and money looking for another cat tree. Problem is now Bastet doesn't like the carpet I put there :|

I still have a very old cat tree on the far left and the other two I bought on e-bay. My cats really like them and have even started scratching my furniture less often. :) I did have to add some more sisal rope to some of the legs because they began to scratch a some of the carpet off. Here are a few pics.

I also like the fact that it's built for large cats because all four of my cats are quite large. :)

Wow, KAK, I've seen that big cat tree on eBay. I thought about bidding on that one, but it might be too big for our space. I love it!

I want to take our older trees and recarpet them, but I've never worked with carpet before so I'm wondering if it would turn out.

We have two cat-trees. Youcan see them both (almost) on this pic:

the one on the left is the oldest. I recarpeted the center post because it was worn to the wood. The cats really love that the perches are large.
the one in the middle is good too. they like the little house on the bottom sometimes but they like the two tallest beds best. (they are bigger than the lowest bed)
the one on the right I built. The perches turned out a little small but the cats use it anyway.
my cats prefer the sisal for scratching and the carpet as their second choice. they do not (yet) scratch on the wood log.

You have great cat trees everyone!

The ones my girls have are really simple compared to them, but I have planned to build them a big one in the near future. :)

This is the bigger one of my girl's cat trees:
