I hope you all had a great holiday! I took Jeffrey and Bandit to my parents place in the country. They totally ignored their toys because they were too busy tearing up the farm. They had wide open land and woods to explore. My brother has two hounds (Cheech and Chong) so it was pretty funny watching these two little short guys running after the hounds. They explored the woods, Bandit taking extra care to avoid all the puddles and Jeffrey running right through them. They were so tired when I got home tonight, they ate, drank, then flopped on the couch and I haven't heard a peep out of them since http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif.

Genia,
I was so in hopes that our Christmas would be better because I was allowed the opportunity to take Honey and Lilly with me to my parent's house. What I didn't anticipate was that Honey would fall into a worse version of herself. She was frantic for 48 hours. She is a nervous, suspicious, but loving Golden Retriever, but taking her to a new place just set her off. She hadn't been there in probably a year and a half and of course didn't remember anything. She didn't eat or sleep for two days. We had a terrible time getting her to come inside and when we needed her to go outside, we went through the same thing. I felt so guilty about boarding her in the kennel and now I feel guilty about having taken her to Christmas with the family. I learned a great lesson. Next year, Christmas needs to be at my house! I can not wait to get started with the one on one obedience classes with her in January. I'm hoping her confidence will improve tremendously. She is such a sweet wonderful dog, but as my dad said, "she has an odd personality". I would add that she especially has an odd personality for a Golden Retriever! Lilly on the otherhand reverted back to her childhood (she's only 1 1/2 now), but she didn't want me out of her sight and cried like a baby if I walked out of the door. My daughter and I left to go visit a friend for about an hour on Christmas Eve and even took Lilly for a walk before that, but my mom said she "pined" for us the whole time we were gone, just moaned and cried until we got back. I'm exhausted and so are they. They laid down and went to sleep in the car as soon as I put them in and are now happily sleeping on the floor in my living room, having just eaten their first full meal in two days!!!!
I'll bet you're sorry you asked!

Hope the kids revert back to normal soon, Logan. Sorry to hear it was so rough!
Shaianne got some fleece toys one she already chewed a hole in, and some chewies.
My sister unexpectedly brought her dog to Christmas so they got to tear thru the house, Shai stole Scooby's bone, but he got it back! My mom about had a nervous breakdown. She is just not a dog person and could hardly stand both dogs in the house, along with 12 people!! It doesn't help that my dog listens about as well as a brick either!!!

I got so wrapped up in my horrible Christmas story that I forgot to say that I did take Christmas presents for all of the puppies! Scout, Honey and Lilly feasted on pressed rawhide bones and Mr. Darcy, my mom's 7 week old Boston Terrier enjoyed a special "puppy" bone. They loved their presents. My girls are already a little more back to normal, sleeping at my feet and just plain glad to be home!

My two got lots of presents but when we unwrapped the 2 foot long beef bones for each of them, they both got extremely territorial and got into a horrible fight. I promptly took the bones from them and dropped them in the garbage. They kissed and made up right after the fight, but I learned a valuable lesson - no more bones!

In her stocking, Nikki got a squeaky submarine sandwich and a doggy cigar and a Peanut butter and jelly bone and a little rawhide bone. under the tree, she unwrapped all by herself a huge, huge rawhide bone. She loves all of them and she constantly dops a slobbery one of them in our laps to remind us she's thankful and she keeps squeaking tat sandwhich to say thanks, too. Also, some relatives came over and brought their Irish setter/Golden retreiver mix and Nikki and her had a ball!

Logan,

I've been out of the loop for a few days, but I'm sorry to hear that Honey had such a rough time of it. Having Christmas at your house next year is probably a good idea!

Honey and Lilly are back in their element now. They have slept for two days!!
I took a great picture of them tonight with the webcam (thanks to Carrie reminding me I have it) and I have sent it to Paul to see if he will put it on this post. It's not the lovely picture that I wanted to put in, but maybe you can at least see what they look like since I talk about them all the time! Keep watching!

Daisy has been playing nonstop with her new toys... she was defnitely spoiled. Her favorite by far is one of those cow leg bones that are hollow, and this is one is filled with peanut butter flavored stuff. She spends hours gnawing away on it. She also got squeaky toys in the shape of a hamburger, a steak, a hot dog, and a chicken leg, and a squeaky pacifier. Oh, and she also got a bone on a rope, and two bags of treats. We also got her boots since her feet have been getting sensitive walking through all the snow... but she hates them, when we put them on her, she tried walking and was lifting her legs really high, it was so funny! I think we might have to return them. We TRIED to get her a jacket and were trying some on at Petco one day, but she is so long that they just looked plain stupid! I guess bassets need specially made long jackets! Anyway Daisy is very happy and busy with her new stuff, she hopes everyone of her friends from Pet Talk had a great holiday season!

Daisy's Mom, What is the name of this "cow leg bone"? That sounds like something Jeffrey would love. He chews everything and I am constantly looking for more interesting chew toys. So far the only thing that keeps his attention for any length of time is a peanut butter filled Kong. I went out for a bit today and left a cabinet door open. 3 plastic bowls destroyed!

Logan, looking forward to those pictures!

Logan, I am sorry to hear about Honey's scary Christmas. Glad she's back to normal now http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

Graham and Cassie had a great Christmas, they enjoyed the Nylabones and box of cookies I got them. They were in doggie heaven! Graham almost did not get a visit from Santa because he did something I sure hope he NEVER does again!!!

I took both dogs to the dog park on Christmas Eve morning...sun was shining, loads of snow on the ground, and fresh, fluffy snow falling. It was a beautiful morning. Graham was off doing his usual squirrel patrol, and Cassie was chasing the groups of dogs and all of a sudden someone cried out, "oh no, Graham got a squirrel"! Sure enough Graham was killing a squirrel http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif I called him frantically and he finally came to me, leaving that poor animal where he attacked it. I had to go dispose of the squirrel body before any of the other dogs found it and paraded with it, but when I got to the "murder scene" the squirrel was not there, just a bit of blood. Poor Ms. Squirrel managed to climb to a very low branch to die http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif I saw how much pain she was in, and hoped that she died quickly but I just could not stand watching her suffer. I was going to walk away, when she came crawling/falling out of the tree at my feet, where she was obviously in pain.

So I could either leave her there to suffer and then have a dog find her body and make a huge mess of it, or I could put her out of her misery. I chose to put her out of her misery http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif I told Graham that if he EVER does something like that again that Santa will NOT visit him! I sure wish he only liked the chase of the squirrel, but unfortunately he enjoyes the kill far more then the chase. I have not taken him to the park since Christmas Eve. I am afraid to. What if he gets so good that he makes a kill every time he goes? He can just forget about going then. I love squirrels. I remember when I was younger I hit one with my car and I was devistated. I had to pull off the road to sob. I never thought I would be killing one the way I did.

As much as I love Graham, if they had any anti-hunt collars (maybe collars that zapped when he was about to make a kill) I would buy one. He's really giving me the "oh please take me to the park" look, perhaps I will today, but he better not hurt any more squirrels!

I saw the hollow sterilized bones at KMart last night. The label says you can stuff them and use them for training. I know I bought one months ago and it is the only thing I have ever had last so long. They still love it. I have never tried to stuff it. I like it because it doesn't make the mess that the pressed rawhide bones do. I bought Booda Velvet bones for them last night and they maybe lasted one hour. Both dogs devoured them.
Hope Paul will get Honey and Lilly's faces posted for you today. Literally, all I could get was their smiling faces. I needed Helen here to stand back with them, but since she wasn't here, I did my best. Hope you get to see them.
Logan

Shais Mom,
You know what....I don't have a scanner either, but realized, after much prompting form my dear friend, Carrie, that I do own a webcam. It was given to us from my daughter's dad and there it sat, for over six months. Carrie started e-mailing me pictures of her family, including her dog and cat, and I realized that I could do the same thing. Don't know why Honey and Lilly decided to cooperate. I'm still waiting on Mimi and will give her another try tonight! I just snapped the picture and Paul did the rest after I e-mailed him the attachment. All I had to do was insert his attachment into the site.
Do something! I think pictures make the whole thing so much more believable. I was wondering if you guys believed that Honey and Lilly were even real!!
Thanks for all the great comments. You all know that I am one PROUD MOM!! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif

They are even more beautiful than I had imagined them. And smiles, those are the biggest, broadest doggie smiles ever. You can tell that they are looking at you. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif It is in their eyes...all that love. Neat, neat, neat. I love this site! Now how about the rest of you. I want to see all the other furkids too.

Oh Logan!!! What little "Queens!!" More beautiful than I pictured them! What smiles. I'm so sad they were so frightened and stressed over Xmas. I'll bet they're sooo glad to be home! Like little children! Oh, I just love them even more after seeing them!!! Please give them the biggest hugs and kisses (right on the side of the nose, just above the mouth) My favorite spot for giving kisses!! What a MOM!!!

Logan your dogs are beautiful!! Just look at those grins! A little devlish maybe? http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

Genia I am not sure what the bones are called but they are wonderful, Daisy shreds everything else. Her favorite thing to do is rip apart a toy but this doesn't tear, it's great! You can find them at any pet store I bet. They are white sterilized bones from the legs of cows. Try them, I bet Jeffrey will love them!

shais_mom, a peanut and jelly bone is a crunchy bone with two holes in it. On one side, it's filled with peanut butter, and on the other side it's filled with jelly. Nikki loved it!! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif
