I thought it would be cool if everyone said something about their city and posted pictures. It would be neat to hear and see where everyone lives. :)

I live in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Kelowna (Kell-oh-nuh) means "Grizzly bear" in native. It is the largest city in the interior of BC, and the third largest in BC. People like to come here for the wine LOL. Kelowna has tons of wineries and many of the wineries have won awards. Also, Ogopogo, the "monster" of the lake ( who oddly hasn't been seen since all the hightech cameras came out -- wonder if he just doesn't want to be seen?? (thought maybe to have been a plieosaur, but most often pictured as a serpent).). TONS of people come here to ski and snowboard at Big White or Crystal Mountian. Kelowna is home to 100,000 people at the moment, but is soon joining up with Westbank and Winfield (Lake Country) and we will have a good 143,000 people. It is a fairly big city, at 228.4 sq km (that is pretty big since Vancouver City (not metro area) is 113 sq km). Our bridge is the longest floating bridge in the world, almost a mile long. It is only one of, I believe, 9 floating bridges in the world, and I think there is only one other in Canada. We will have another one soon. I'm so happy to live in such a beautiful place. :D Now don't you all want to come here??? ;)

I live in Tucson, Az. It seems like it's one of those cities that you either love or hate. I personally love it, I enjoy the mountains, and the sunny weather. It's a good sized city with a small town feel, it's also great for people who love the outdoors but dont' want to live in a small town. We have lots of places to go camping and hunting. Here's a picture that I took and a few other pictures that I found.

I took this off of a friends balcony.

I live in PEI. I don't really have much to say about it lol..It's quite small and quite. Roughly 120,000 ppl or so. From ppl at work, I hear its very different from bigger cities like montreal or toronto, but has character and is very enjoyable. I think its more enjoyable for an older person compaired to a kid as there isn't much amusment parks etc. Its calm and some wait laid back. I personally love it here. I couldn't manage a big city. Anywho a few photos:

I live in Wylie, a suburb of Dallas. Our population is about 20,000 now and growing by leaps and bounds. We are finally getting a few stores and some fast food places. :) We have a nice lake for fishing and boating, Lake Lavon, and a beautiful little old fashioned downtown area.
This is Old City Park where we have the summer concert series, Fall Carnival and the Easter Egg Hunt among many other small town festivities.

http://www.wideawakewylie.com/images/main_photo_12.jpg

Wylie was once known as the Onion Capitol of the World because for a time the only thing that was farmed here was onions of all varieties. We still have several onion farms and when you drive by them in the spring, you can smell the sweet scent of the vidalias. :)

Here's an article I just found about Wylie:

Wylie is on State Highway 78 sixteen miles south of McKinney in south central Collin County. It was organized in the early 1870s and originally called Nickelville, reportedly after the name of the first store. In 1886 the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway laid tracks a half mile north of the original townsite. Within a year the businesses of Nickelville had moved to take advantage of the railroad and had named their new location Wylie, in honor of W. D. Wylie, a right-of-way agent for the railroad. That same year Wylie received a post office branch and incorporated, choosing an alderman form of government. Two years later the St. Louis Southwestern Railway reached the town. The two railroads and the rich agricultural region of the Blackland Prairiesqv contributed to the town's growth. Wylie had a population of 400 in 1890 and 773 in 1900. Before 1920 the community had over thirty-five businesses, including two banks, a school, and a weekly newspaper. Unlike many rural Texas communities, Wylie grew during the Great Depressionqv years, reaching 914 residents by 1940. In part this was a result of increased dairy farming to meet the demands of nearby Dallas. Following World War IIqv the population continued to increase. The construction of Lake Lavon five miles north of town and the selection of Wylie to house the offices of the North Texas Municipal Water District, designed to provide water for towns in four counties, pushed the population to 1,804 in 1960. In the next twenty years the population more than doubled as a result of the growth of the Dallas urban area. In 1980 there were 3,152 residents and ninety businesses in Wylie. In 1990 the population was 8,716, and Wylie had spread into Rockwall and Dallas counties.

Wow, wolfsoul, nice place to live!

I live in the armpit of my state. I don't even know if you can call it a city or not. It's cold, dry and windy in the winter, and hot, dry and windy in the summer. I sincerely miss trees and water!

I don't have any pictures, but here's a link to a webpage. (Sheesh, even our official webpage is pathetic!)

United States Embassy, Sussex Drive, downtown Ottawa.. ummm ya, having ur car break down infront of this building, is a very very bad idea, angry soilders comeout & yell alot... They have a nasty fence surrounding the building, it doesn't match the rest of the area. oh well hehehe

It takes about 3 hrs to drive from one end of ottawa to the other on hwy!! Ottawa has the largest land mass in off of Canada!!!

Ottawa's Population is 774,072 in 2001, I don't know if that is before or after the Cities all Merged together, I think its after.

Very interesting thread! I love it! :D

I live in Everett, WA. It's located roughly 30 minutes north of Seattle. It's located directly on Port Gardner Bay (a part of Puget Sound which leads into the Pacific Ocean). It is considered to be a "Navy Town", it's home to the Navy's most modern station. Stationed there are three destroyers, three frigates and one aircraft carrier. Everett is also home to the largest building in the world - a Boeing plant. Last I heard Everett was the 7th largest city in the state of Washington.

This is such an interesting thread, because I think that your cities and towns look very different than our over here...
Tucson looks like such an amazing place...I've never seen such landscape over here before...and that historic house in Wylie, Tx. looks just great...

I live in a quite small town, where nothing ever happens, but I love this old town...population about 50,000...lots of historic buildings...
In the attached picture you can see the city centre with the library (left) and church (right)...the other picture shows one of the many alleys in the city center...

I live in Michigan.. we have two seasons here.. Construction (http://www.michigan.gov/mdot/1,1607,7-151-9615_11053---,00.html) and Winter. ;) hahaha!! I kill me. :D

At the moment I live in Williamston (http://www.williamston.org/). It's a town with one stoplight. :D

Williamston is located in Ingham County’s northeastern corner along M-43, about two miles north of I-96. This historic town is situated on the Red Cedar River, and contains many well-preserved turn-of-the-century buildings. It is currently a popular visiting place for antique lovers, with many unique and quaint shops and stores in the vicinity. A park and dam on the Red Cedar can be found north of the main intersction.

Williamston was first settled by Hiram and Joseph Putnam in 1834, who moved here from Jackson, Michigan. They sold their land to B. O. Williams in 1839, who came here from Batvia, New York. He built a dam, saw mill and later a grist mill here, eventually platting the land in 1845, naming it after him. It was incorporated as a village in 1871, and later as a city in 1944.

It's also home to an Antique Market.

I grew up in Eaton Rapids (http://www.eatonrapidsmi.net/). :) It has THREE stoplights! ;)

Eaton Rapids is situated at the junction of M-99 and M-50 in southeastern Eaton County. It has a diverse economy, chiefly supported by manufacturing, including packaging material, food processing, and industrial parts. This picturesque city located on the Grand River was named for both the river rapids and the county which had been named after John Eaton, Andrew Jackson’s Secretary of War. A major attraction is the historical Island Park built at the turn of the century, featuring an old stone bridge, several statues and memorials, with picnic area.

Like many other towns in Eaton County, Eaton Rapids was first settled by people from Ohio, including Amos and Pierpont Spicer, who platted the village in 1838, and Benjamin Knight, who became the first postmaster that same year. The town began because of significant interest in the crop of timber in the area, with a sawmill marking the start of a community. It eventually was incorporated as a village in 1871, and as a city a decade later.

Eatons Rapids tag line is "The only Eaton Rapids on Earth." Which is true. Check out your local Atlas. :D The city of Eaton Rapids is also an island. You'll always cross a bridge to get downtown.

In the midst of the Grand River is the Island Park.

I live in the middle of two towns Lake Placid and Sebring Florida. I'm 19 miles from one and 18 miles from the other.

This is the lake I live on called Lake Istokpoga. Those fields are caladiums, Lake Placid grows 90% of the worlds caladiums.
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid79/p58f81231927d62ec7051b5f937f5953c/fb0ef556.jpg

Lake Placid is also known as the town of murals, there are painted every where. You can't go a block without seeing one. This one is one of my favorite ones
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid79/pfe2d31b96d7e88e61e6df21ea270ad0d/fb0ef559.jpg

We also have Highlands state park, about 9000 acers. I love this walk at the park.
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid79/pa5e279786a5c7b05e6e67649a60fee15/fb0ef554.jpg

We also are known for "The 12 hours of Sebring race". When that come around our little town, I stay out of town if I can, small city goes wild. It's get so loud I can hear it in my yard.

There's really not that much around here we have somewhere around 74 lakes, the old down town circle, Many 1900's historical homes. Lots of cows and orange trees. Just a small country town with nothing to do but enjoy the peace. (and fish if your into that :p ) Oh we did get a mall a couple of years ago....so we are growing. LOL

I don't live anywhere cool like you all, but here's a little about my city. Modesto used to be a little farming community, we were known as a bunch of hicks. hehe. But then, housing prices skyrocketed in the bay area (San Fransisco, Oakland, etc...), so everyone started moving here. We have alot of commuters here and this city now has almost 200,000 people here. One of my most favorite things about this city is that it is centrally located to all kinds of cool places. I'm an hour from San Fransisco, two from Santa Cruz, three from Lake Tahoe, an hour from the snow, and hour from Sacramento, a few hours from Yosemite National park, etc... It is hot and dry here in the summer and the winters are fairly mild. We do not get snow here. Here are a few pictures:

This is the Mchenry Mansion. It still stands in Modesto and it is even more beautiful then before. Of course, now it is in the middle of town. This is where I got married. It was only $500 to rent the entire place for the day!

http://www.modestogov.com/localInfo/cityHistory/images/hist-2N.jpg

George Lucas is from Modesto. The movie American Graffiti was filmed here. We have Graffiti Night every year and thousands of old classic cars cruise. These pictures are the set of a movie American Grace that was filmed here this August. This is our downtown.
