In case any of you were wondering what the housing is like in Bahrain, here are some pics of the new house. We are really lucky because the companies usually give ex-pats a housing allowance, so we can afford much better places than if we were paying ourselves:)

This is the front:

My favourite part - I had some nice wrought iron & glass shelves made for the arches!

OMG! I LOVE Middle Eastern houses! Just BEAUTIFUL! I've seen those kinds of homes in Pakistan and other Middle Eastern countries, and they're just breath-taking! One of my aunts has a marble mansion like that, and its so big, I would always get lost. Ok, not lost...but I would end up not being able to find anyone but myself! And I thought homes here were pretty..............that is.....until I saw the homes there! :p

Now I know why you don't want to leave Bahrain! Teeheehee! :p

Beautiful house! How many bedrooms is it?

Ps. I like the SUV's too. Perfect for the desert. :p

Congrats on the new house!

Thanks everyone for your nice comments.....if any of you are ever in Bahrain we have plenty of SPACE......

Like I said, the only reason we can afford this house is because my husband's company gives us a housing allowance, and if you don't use the maximum amount they don't pay out the difference - you lose the money - so it makes sense to spend it on the best place you can find. It's great for the kids because they have a swimming pool, tennis and squash courts and a gym on the premesis, so they can have fun without needing to be carted around by "Mum's Taxi"! Also the main bedroom is FAR AWAY from the other bedrooms, which is great with teenagers in the house!:D
(There are 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and 3 lounges - two of which are not being used because they have no furniture yet!)

Ally loves it now, but the first few days she was so intimidated by the size, she was scared to explore, and just hid behind the washing machine! Now however she is back to normal and has taken over!

By the way PCB, you are right about the houses out here in the Middle East - this is the typical style - big rooms, nice high ceilings, columns and archways, and marble floors! Also the SUV's - we almost never go into the desert, but I'd say 70% of the cars on the road here are big SUVs (bigger than ours - lots of Dodge's and GMC's etc) - so driving on the road is really scary in a little car amongst all the big "monsters" - I prefer being in an SUV because I am at the same height as all the other cars and they can't bully me, which used to happen when I drove a little Hyundai Elantra - I was always getting cut off and forced to change lanes because everything else was bigger than me!
