****FLORIDA Pet Talk Meeting!!!! ****

Okay you guys, I've had Kay Ann tell me, call me, and PM about this so I suppose I should finally post it! lol ;)

We would like to plan a meeting right here in Palm Harbor, FL. (just northwest of Tampa) I know it is quite far for most of you since the majority of Pet Talkers live in the Ohio area. That's usually why you all meet up there. Kay Ann and I agreed that it would be nice for as many of you to come down here since it's a change of scenery! :D

We have 1 dog beach about 5 minutes away from our houses, 1 dog park about 8 minutes away, and 1 other new dog park about 10-15 minutes away.

I was thinking about the weekend of Friday October 10th-Sunday October 12th ...give or take a few days if some people wanted to stay later or come earlier.

I figured maybe the Friday night we could meet up with whomever might be here already and go out to eat or something of the sort. Then on Saturday we could go to the closer of the two dog parks and have a big BBQ. We have a shelter right next to the dog park and I am going to arrange to put a temporary fence around the posts of the shelter so that we could have our dogs with us as we eat and not have to worry about holding their leashes or leaving them in the park area. Then on Sunday we could pack a few coolers of drinks for us and our dogs and go to the dog beach....which by the way is 10 times nicer than the people beach!!! :D :) :D

I have a couple hotels that are pet friendly. I would probably suggest you guys stay at a specific one because I know it's nicer than the others. It's also cheaper and closer to Kay Ann, myself, and the parks. :)

We're having a meeting in New Mexico in late October so that might interfere with some peoples' schedules. I know I'd love to go to Florida but I can't make too many trips per month :(

Hopefully tons of people somewhat near Florida can go though!

I'm only 2 hours away from Tampa, so I'd love to come up one of those days. I don't think I could do a whole weekend, I still have pets to take care of at home. Maybe on sat for the BBQ......this way I get out of wearing a bathing suit in public. :D LOL

Also all Motel 6's allow pets, there not the best but they work in a pinch. I have found some Hotel/Motel's that are pet friendly only allow small pets. You might want to check into that. I know I got hung once with a hotel that said they where pet friendly, but when I got there they said Tuffy was to large, they only took 20lb or less dogs. So it was off to Motel 6. :rolleyes:

I'd have to go from Canada to the US and im not sure they do it. I know some car rental places allow someone 18 to drive I just cant find any. I'd MUCH rather go by train. I know I'd be able to go then. (unless it costs like a zillion dollars)

You can take pets on a train but of course they have to be in their pet carries in a seperate car. I know that my step-mother brought her Boxer down on Am-Track after 911. She was afraid to fly around then.

I've had friends travel via plane with pets and they seem to do okay. but I am not going to push it on you :) and if you wanted to stay longer than the weekend feel free to stay....between kay and I we could arrange some time to show you around or whatever. :)

im jealous! DISNEY?!?! you guys are goin?!?! okay this has nothing to do with dieny but Universal has good boarding for dogs.. We just went there.. Only problem is where you park, you park right next to the boarding facility and you have to walk a good 20minutes to get to universal.. maybe a half hour.. Yeah but disney is the best!! :D :D

We looked into the kennel's at Disney this year when we were at disney, and if I remember right, it was less then $15. I think it is $6/day or $11 to say overnight.

They only thing they ask, is that you stop back a couple times a day to walk your dog. If you board at Epcot, they will walk the dogs for $2.50/walk.

They will clean up messes inside the kennel, and ffed the dogs, but no take them out. You have your choice of an indoor kennel or outdoor. They looked niced from what we could see, but did not get to go back into the actual kennel room.

I thought that in July, but in fall it may not be so bad. The outdoor ones are covered and shaded by trees. You can hardly even see them from outside :)
