So here I am, on the west coast, minding my own business.

Ok ok, so I decided go to our "local" internet site to check out my "local" news, weather, etc - and here's what I got:

"While we power up and restore our servers after Thursday's Northeast power outages, this page will be your link to blackout coverage on the Internet."

I'm 3000 miles away!

geez - no wonder Oregon's economy is in the toilet! We don't even host our own websites for our own local news.

if it makes you feel any better catland, my host server is in Washington. I know that isn't Oregon, but it's close.

It's just as bad here in Australia. Thanks to our Luddite of an IT and communications minister, our IT industry is steadily going backwards! Yes, he is a Luddite, he only recently obtained an e-mail address.

Much of our IT is outsourced to India, where they pay programmers 2 c an hour or whatever the slave wage is. Sweatshop programming, who would have thought? Most of the big companies here use this service rather than pay Aussie programmers decent rates.
