I took in a rescue little girl hedgie. She is thin, had feces caked onto her nails, and is totally mite infested. She is however very sweet. I will have to treat my whole household for mites (rats, and the hedgies) but hopefully this will not be a big thing, more like a preventative. She's around 8 weeks old (estimate) and came from a horrible lady named Robin. All of her critters have mites!

She breeds several exotics, like wallabies, coatimundis, hedgies, feeder rats, feeder mice, fennec fox, pantagonian cavie and others. I am unsure if she is USDA licensed or not, but I am soon going to find out because the things she is doing makes me sick!

Anyways, here are some pics of my newest rescue, Flower. :) Hopefully after a good thorough exam by our vet (she also has mild diarrhea) she will recover from this and gain a little weight.

She's a little bit lighter than Speedy, not a snowflake and not a cinnamon, so I am assuming some variation of the chocolate chip. Her ears are so much bigger than Speedys, and her snout is longer. She also fits in the palm of my hand. ;)

In this pic you can see how dirty she is. She is having a bath tomorrow, as I did not want to stress her tonight, then on Monday she will see Dr. Barrett and get some Ivermectin for her. Hopefully everything will go ok. If you look closely in this pic the little orange things on her chin are mites, her ears are dirty and you can see that her claws are caked with poop. :( I have cleaned her feet already but will leave the whole "cleansing" for tomorrow. She did nip me once, but it didn't even hurt. She didn't break the skin or leave a mark. She doesn't even curl up into a ball. She for comming from a crappy place she's pretty tame.

These are the two newest additions to my creepy crawlie collection. They are both male Madajascar Hissing Cockroaches. :)
Their pretty big already but will get just a tiny bit bigger, about the size of my hand if I feed them good. Right now they are living with my gecko, and were supposed to be "food" but I think they are just a tad too big. :p

Thanks everyone! I just hope our vet visit goes ok. :(

Luckies, umm... did you pay for the cockroaches? You're more than welcome to come over to my garage and catch all you want for FREE! (We also -probably- have a couple of scorpians, if you like those! :ee: )

What a sweet hedgie!

Awww, wish I had a hedgie! They have a really adorable albino one at the pet shop. :) Yours is really cute! Speedy is a boy isn't he? Is he fixed, or will he have to be for them to be housed together? Or are they going to be housed seperatly? :)

Maybe you should report that lady. What she does is horrible.

I think the cockroaches are neat. Are they going to live with your gecko forever? lol. Names for them? :p

Ya I bought them. :p They were only three dollars each. When I was younger we had this house that was totally infested with roaches and it was so discusting. I hated it! YUCK! I have always like water bugs though, the bigger roaches you find in California and what not, but I don't like the German roaches. I like these because they don't run away from you, and they aren't dirty. They are pretty clean animals, don't bite and plus I like to get them to hiss. They are pretty cool. I used to have some girls a while back, but they got out and I accidently squished them. :( The thing is, even if you squish them they can still live, so they were walking around with their butts paper thin. I felt bad so I fed them to my praying mantid, and I cried. :( What was sad is that my mantid died a few months later, which made me really sad. I loved my prangy girl so much. :o People don't think you could love a bug, but I really did love my Prangy. She was the best bug ever.

I loved watching her hunt her food. She was lightening fast. She was always so tame and I would take her with me around the house, and she would just sit on my shoulder. She was really smart, and I even thought she knew her name. I kept her alive longer than most people could, which made me happy. When I knew it was her time to do, I put her outside for some sun and she died. :(

Awww :( That's sad.

But now I really want a preying mantis lol. I think I'd be too afraid to touch it though.

They are seperated right now, especially since she has mites. I don't kow if you can neuter/spay hedgies but if you could, I don't think I would risk it. So they are seperated. The thought of a litter hasn't completely escaped my mind though. But I don't think that would be right, especially since she was a rescue. I do have my USDA license, so I could technically breed if I chose to, but I choose to rescue instead. I do plan on breeding STO one day though, and if I am unlucky I will be taking in 25 males tomorrow. All the result of a "breeder".

As far as the roaches are concerned, they will probably live with my gecko for a few days to see if he can eat them or not. If he can't them they will be kept as pets, which is what I am planning on lol. They are just too cute! Names.....I was thinking spot and dot because they have beautiful markings on their thorax. :)

Er.... bugs as pets. As long as their no spiders I can handle the pics. For a second I thought that was a picture of the mites and then I saw what you wrote. I think Hedgehogs are adorable and I think this one's cutenss will caus m to melt once she's bathed. :) I wanted a hedgehog, byt they're illegal where I live. :(

Yes they do have spines. :) Speedy pokes me sometimes, when I try to wake him up during the day to clip his nails/give him a bath he'll get cranky, roll up into a ball and then hiss at me. I should try to get a wave file of him hissing, it's the coolest thing. He wasn't so tame when I got him, so he will do that every once in a while.

I don't expect anything like this from this girl, unless it's a stranger trying to handle her or what not. She's very tame. She's only rolled into a ball once, and that was when she met Speedy.......before I noticed mites crawling all over her. Guess that taught me a lesson huh. Look harder before intros. :o

Well the current "owner" ( I wouldn't call him that) sent me some pics of some of the rescue possums I will be taking in. It sounds like the situation is worth than I thought. :(

This guy must be mad! First he tells me his older females are loosing their ears. Well at first glance of the photo you can tell they have mites and are most likely dehydrated. The one girls ears look horrible, not to mention they are housed on what looks like pine/cedar. One pictures shows a male who has a gash in his side, is missing nails on his front feet, and looks to have an eye infection? His eye may just be closed though.....but it looks suspicious. Then guess what else? He feeds them rodent LAB BLOCKS! My god, could this guy be any stupider?

It's all about money. He was telling me how he got his original stock from back east, for the money, and he has to get rid of them because he's not making any money and cannot take it anymore. He was complaining how he spent $3,000 dollars in the past three months. Ya so! I spent about $2,000 dollars on my rats alone every month. Who cares! That's what happens when you get a pet, duh!

And then he went on and on about how he's a single father with an 11 year old child, and recently divorced. I wanted to say " Well maybe if you had a brain she would have stayed with you longer". :p

The worst part was this, and it made my mouth drop! He said he has mastered the art of "Bullshitting"......his exact words. He found a way to ship his possums Fedex and UPS. Hrrm, nice eh? He said that those companies ship mealworms and crickets, so he would put the possum in a small glass enclosure and put an orange in their face, and because of the orange they won't move. Then he piles a bunch of crickets on top of them, so you can see them, and since the orange is there the possum won't move. Nice! He's sent them as far as Texas, in a tiny box, with no circulation, water or food.

This is HIGHLY illegal!!! Talk about a moron! I suspect he is not USDA licensed, and I will be making a call to my USDA worker (the guy who does my inspections) and having a nice lengthy chat with him. But first I want to try to get as many possums out as I possible can. And he's trying to sell them to me......for $40 bucks, even ones with missing tails. So I need to figure out what to do. I am thinking I can take the worse ones, after I convince him I will NOT buy them, do a thorough inspection of his house (while I take a long my digital camera, hehe) and see what I find. I want to have as much info as I possible can. Then I will nail him!

The sad thing is most of the females are pregnant, so if I take in some girls I will soon have babies. Oh yes which brings me to another thing he told me. He has a "patched" girl who he wants to breed just to have a new color. Well he bred her twice and she abborted both times, and he's bred her again! It's ALL FOR MONEY!:(

I will try to attach one of the pics he sent me...........hopefully it will go through. I want to leave it big so you can see the poor condition they are in. This is the boy who has a gash in his front leg, which is plainly visible.

And the funny thing is........I have permission to use these pics. LOL What a dumb guy.

I'm assuming this is a female beacause of the ears..........

Ok this is the last pic. I will try to take my own pics once they are here, or when I go to his house/he brings them to me. Another thing he said that strikes me odd is that he said he could drive over here, pick me up and take me to his house. I was like um, no, not without someone else going with me. So a close friend of mine is thinking of comming along, or he will be bringing them over here in his truck.........I just need to go over there at least once to see how they are kept/try to find out more.

I do not know if this one is a male or a female. It looks like it's in apparent good shape.
