A girl that goes to my church went into the hospital last night with fluid on her lungs. She is 36 weeks pregnant (she also has very high blood pressure from the pregnancy). She had the baby in the ICU via c-section this morning. The baby was taken to another hopstial on a breathing machine and antibiotics (she has fluid in her lungs, but it may just be from amniotic fluid)...but just to be sure they are treating her. The mother is still in ICU of a different hospital (on a breathing machine and antibiotics), and i just got a call that they are having trouble with her heart now (the mother's). Please lift up those prayers if you wouldnt mind. The father of the baby is with the baby now and the mother has her mother with her.

I will post updates.

Please pray.

Thanks.

Robyn

Oh my, so sad. :( Let us pray for the mother and her sweet newborn baby.

Dear Father in Heaven, please send healing powers and good vibes for this poor women and her newborn child. Give her family strength in this time of uncertaintanty. Please heal this women and child, so that mother may grow to know child, and child mother. I pray that you give them the strength to fight this terrible illness with ferrocity, and that they recover quickly so that the family can spend time together, enjoying this very special time in their lives. In your sons name, Amen.

This is just so sad. What a terrible thing to have happened. I truly hope that both the mother and baby recover soon, so that they may be reunited. Please keep us updated. Do the doctors know what is causing the fluid to build up in the lungs of the mother?

13 months ago my family was in the same posistion. (my neice was unconscience in the hospital for almost 3 months after giving birth to her daughter 3 months premature)
Today all is well, maybe not perfect, but normal, so miracles do happen.
To help little miracles along, many prayers will be said for your friend and her baby.

Heavenly Father, You said in Your word that by the stripes of Jesus that we are healed. Father I pray that you would touch this woman and her little baby and bring wholeness to both of them. I pray that this be done to bring You glory. Father, I also pray that you would bring the family peace in this time, that they would know that they are in Your hands. Prayers from here! I hope she gets better, and that the baby is okay. :(

It sounds a little like my mom's pregnancy with me, minus the fluid. Her blood pressure was through the roof so they when she had a check up at the doctor, the doctor rushed her to the hosptial and did a C-section right away. I was born two weeks early (might have done my mom a world of good -- 2 more weeks and I would have been 10 pounds! My family has big babies). After that, she had surgery on her heart and now she has some plastic thing on her heart..Then when I was four, she had surgery on her heart again...yikes..

Christiansmommy

I am sorry to say, there has been no good news. The mother had to be rushed to a different hospital that specializes more with heart related issues and she is in critical condition. I was told this at 5:30 today and havent heard anything since, so i am hoping that all is well since then. We have a prayer chain at our church, where when something happens, one person is called, and so on to be informed of any new info. i was away today, so i brought my cell, and havent heard an update since the 5:30 one.

I am praying things start to look up...hopefully, i will have better news tomorrow.

As far as the baby goes, her lungs werent as developed as they thought, so she is back on the breathing machine...at a different hospital, probably 45min, to an hour, from the hosptial the mother is staying at...

Thanks so much to all of you for your kind words and prayers. It never ceases to amaze me at the love that the Pettalkers always seem to put forth...toward people they dont even know. Thanks everyone!

Has the mother seen her baby yet? If it is time to go, which I pray it's not, will she at least be able to see her baby first? I really hope she does get that chance. :(

Still praying that both recover soon. How sad :(

Thank you all so much for your concern and prayers. They are helping to keep this mother going in the right direction. So dont stop praying!! :) The doctors said that they have seen some improvement...so that is a positive update. The baby was taken off of the ventilator today, so she is doing better as well. I worry each time i hear the phone ring, but thankfully this was a positive update. God is good and will get her and her family through this!!

How is momma and baby doing?

Christiansmommy
08-03-2003, 08:51 AM
I was just gonna give an update today...thanks for asking.

One answer to prayer, is that insurance has finally allowed for the baby to be moved to the same hospital as mommy, so it will be easier on the father and once the mother is off of sedation, she will be able to be with her baby. Btw, she has been on sedatives ever since the baby was born, so realistically, she doesnt even know she has had the baby yet...it has been that serious. She is 100% sedated now, b/c she was trying to remove some of her tubes...which is completely understandable...she is probably wondering (as the sedative had started to wear off, what is all going on and how is the baby through all of this). Her heart isnt as good as it could be, so that is another reason for the sedatives...to keep her calm and relaxed. If she knew the whole scope of everything going on, it wouldn't be good for her heatlh...b/c i am sure her blood pressure would rise and so forth.

The baby is doing great. She started on a bottle yesterday....and she had a cat scan done to make sure there was no damage to her brain due to any lack of oxygen that she might have had...and it came out good.

The mom is not out of the woods yet...but with each day there is some improvement. So thank you all so much for your concern and prayers...keep em coming!! I will update as i know more :)

Thanks everyone!!

Oh great news! :) I am so glad that the mother will finally get to see her baby. Perhaps if the baby is not doing so well she can have breastmilk that the mother has pumped? That is always the best, especially for a premie. ;)

Still praying here, hope the mother gets to go home soon and thank goodness the father doesn't have to travel so much now, and only stay at one hospital. I will pray for him as well, it is probably very draining.

Luckie's, if the Mom is so sedated, they wouldn't allow the baby to have her breast milk.

Prayers will continue for this family - the news is very encouraging.

They needed "permission" from the insurance company to be able to bring the family together? Insurance companies make me nuts!

Thanks to the other members of this board who shared their stories of similar situations. It is a reminder to us that people can come through even the bleakest of situations. I pray that each day both mother and child will get better until the crisis is past. We need to pray for the new dad too so he is able to manage under this stressful situation.

Just thought i would give a quick update....

The mother is no longer intubated...and hasnt been since 12:30pm eastern time today. She struggles a little with breathing...but not enough to put her back on...at least for now...so that is a HUGE step. She has a LONG road ahead of her...but it was nice to hear some good news. The baby will be able to go home at the end of the week...so i am guessing the grandmother will take care of her until the mother/father are ready to come home...which is probably not in the near future.

The mother got to actually talk a little today...off of her sedatives...so she knows about the baby and maybe even saw pics....so that is great news.

Keep on praying though...she is still in critical condtion...just progessing with baby steps.

Thanks
Robyn

I just thought i would update on all of this to those of you who were concerned and prayed...thank you so much!!

The baby went home a week or 2 ago and is doing great...the grandma (mother of the husband) is staying at the house and caring for her, and will be for a very long time. The mother is finally able to come home today, but will be on strong heart medication the rest of her life (assuming it keeps working well for her...otherwise in a year it is possible she may need a heart transplant). She cant have any more children and will need to take it easy...she wont really be able to care for the baby much at all, so the grandma will remain there.

Inspite of all of this...we are praising God that she lived throuht it all and is finally gonna be home with her little one. I believe that God works miracles and who knows, maybe her heart will just continue to improve and she will continue to get much healthier even than the doctors anticipate! So please continue to keep this family in your prayers...they have a lot to deal with right now; they havent even been married for a year yet and are relatively young (mid to late 20's)...anyway, i will update further, if i hear anything else.

Thank you all so much for your prayers. The Lord surely heard them!!

Oh my! Somehow I missed this. What a sad sad story! I will certainly keep the family in my thoughts and prayers. How awful for such a young girl to have such serious heart problems....just from having a baby! Here's hoping she continues to improve like you say, and just keeps getting stronger and stronger instead of needing a heart transplant. How totally devastating for such a young couple. :(
