23 Days. I really really hope that she took because this will be an awesome litter if she did. They would be all dumbo, and in mink, blue, fawn, havanna agouti, pearl and with merles and a chance of blue and mink point siamese babies! :D

I also just bred Wrinkles, but it is still unknown if she or Chloe have took. For Wrinkles I am expecting siamese in blue point and seal point, American blue and blacks in high white markings and a chance of BEW's! I could also get some blue fawns which would really be pretty. The daddy of Wrinkles litter would be Quicky who is pictured above. :D

I am always amazed at the different f l a v o r s that these cuties come in! Do you keep records on the breedings with the characteristics charted etc? That seems like a BIG job!

Best wishes for your whole cuddly bunch!

I do actually and yes it is a tough hard job. I keep track of the day the animal was mating, DOB, DOD, how many kittens a rat had, if any died, how long the rat lives, if they were ever sick, their pedigrees which could contain over 12 rats etc. I do have help with a nice little computer program though called "Breeders Assistant."

It helps keep tract of pedigrees, trail mating pedigrees, and even gives you percentages of inbreeding for a specific rat. It's a great program! :D

BEW stands for Black Eyed White, meaning all white body with black eyes. ;)

He's a rescue from my friend, but he was bred by a friend of mine named Amy, from Elk Trails Rattery in Washington. Because he comes from a nice line and is pedigreed and healthy I am going to breed him.

I have a question. I don't know about rats/mice, so forgive me if its a dumb one. :)

Do they make rat kibble? Or mouse chow? Or are they like birds where you feed them seed, but supliment their diet?

The recommended diet for rats (and mice) is a base of lab blocks (I use Harlan Teklad blocks) supplemented with lots of grains and fresh fruits and veggies.

They make seed mixes and such for rats, but they're generally recommended against, as the rats will pick out their favorites and not get all the required nutrition.

You can also supplement their diet with things like mealworms, Nutro dog food, nuts, instant oatmeal (a hit at my house!), and sweets like yogurt, VERY small amounts of chocolate, mine like fish food, etc.

There are things that are forbidden (Like Blue Cheese, it's toxic to them) but generally they'll eat just about anything! Tonight my girls got Fajita leftovers (steak, bell peppers, a dollop of sour cream, tortillas), corn on the cob, and a bit of watermelon. They're always soooo happy to get the fresh stuff! ^_^

Edit: if you're wondering, lab blocks are a pelleted food formulated to be a complete diet. They look rather like large round dog kibbles.
