One Year Ago today, we drove an hour and a quarter to see some 9 week old puppies. They were so pudgy and cute, and simply irrisistable. One year ago today, a little puppy soon to be named Malone wiggled into my heart. And one year ago today is a day I will never forget.
It was broiling hot out, nearly 100 degrees. We sat out under a tree playing with the puppies, until we were sure that this one was THE one (it didn't take long). He was so funny, tumbling around, happy for attention while the other ones faded off to sleep.
We got into the car to drive away. We were so excited, we kept turning around to look in the back seat to make sure it was really real. It was!
Malone sure was a special puppy...for the first few days. Then he turned into a whiney nawtee brat. He loved to chew up sneakers, he had accidents in the hall. He hate rocks, lots of rocks. Many days I was just about to give up on him...and then he would crawl up into my lap and gently lick my chin. And I would realize how worth it all was. It took a while, but then he started to respond to our commands. He stopped "going" in the house. And then one day, I realized he didn't "puppy-bite" us any more. He was becoming a real friend.
And now today, I wouldn't trade him for anything. He is probably the closest friend I have in the world...he's the only one that gets excited when I wake up in the morning, or when I come home after a long day.
I love you, my Bubs-boy, and I'm so glad that you were meant for me. :)
