I just read that peanut butter can cause rats to get chronic bone disease. Does anyone know if this is true? Peanut butter is in some of the snack recipes that I give my rats....

I am not sure if peanut butter contains canola oil or not, but canola oil can kill rats. It causes degeneration of the heart, kidney, adrenals and thyroid glands. Just thought I'd mention that, in case there is canola oil in PB.

Peanut butter can also choke rats, since it is sticky, and since rats can't vomit, they could suffocate.

I have never heard of peanut butter causing bone issues, but I wouldn't be suprised if it did- seems like every kind of food is deadly to rats. :(

Lol, it does seem that every food is bad for rats

Thanks for the info. I used to give the rats canola oil, luckily I stopped  lol. I'll check the ingredients to the peanut butter and see if there is any canola oil....

In my recipe, the peanut butter is hard to choke on, but I watch them good anyways :D of course...

I'm going to look up some info on peanut butter/rats now. Thanks again! :)
