Got back from the doctor, BAD news

Well, I went to the doctors.

She thinks that I have alopecia. She explained though, although it usually makes all the hair on your body fall out and never grow back, it can only occur on some parts of your body, and sometimes the hair does grow back. In my case though, she's never seen anything where the eyelashes continuously fall out and grow back, and I got so scared when she gasped after she saw them :( :o She said that my hair falling out worries her too.

But because I lost alot of weight, she decided to check me for hyperthyroidism...grr, always back to that. She felt my thyroid and said that it feels fine...But even so...She sent me off to another lab...where....I got.....

A NEEDLE!!! :eek: :eek: :eek:

I don't think they've ever gotten anyone as hysterical is I :D I burst out crying and started hyperventilating, I couldn't breathe, it was horrible. I wanted my Leather-baby so bad so I could hug her. But when it was over I started laughing lol. I was expecting the same pain I feel when I get a shot, but the lady explained that it's different, because this needle doesn't go in all the way, and it's not going into a muscle and pushing something itno your body. So it wasn't that bad, just a prick, but I was still crying heehee. I'm such a baby...:rolleyes:

My doctor is also sending me to a special dermotologist. The office wasn't open when they called to make an appointment, so they are making one tomorrow and then calling me.

So...I'm getting checked for two things now...Alopecia....and hyperthyroidism.....:( :(

PS I got a pretty pink bandaid with hearts on it :D No lollipop though :( :p

Diffuse Pattern Alopecia: is a type of hair loss most common in women. The hair tends to become thinner rather than making bald patches. One will not see a shiny patch without hair. It is more likely that every other hair is missing. This usually occurs across the top of the head and near the front (rarely on the sides.) This progressive hair loss can be both gradual or intermittent and you may notice hair becoming less manageable. 25% of Caucasian women who have reached their forties experience thinning and recession. The percentage increases as women head towards their fifties. 50% of fifty plus women have thinning hair. The degree of loss seldom reaches that of male pattern baldness.

I'm still trying to find anything that sounds like my eyelashes though :confused: Even the doctor looked confused, it must not be all that common to lose your eyelashes with alopecia? She said that you could loe ALL the hair on your body though, so I would think :confused:

Thankyou for the site, I did some reading and I'm already understanding this better :D. From what the doctor has told me, and from what I'm reading, there are not many good treatments for this disease....I'll have to find something. I've already gotten a PM from a very nice pet talker who has told me that a hormone specialist might help. So I'm going to ask my doctor about this.

One I get my blood test back, and I see the dermo, we'll know for sure what this really is.

Aww Jordan, I'm sorry that you may have Alopecia or Hyper Thyroidism. Hopefully they will find out what it is and you will be treated for it. :) Good luck!

Speaking as a nurse, who is often the one inflicting the pain on frightened "victims," I can tell you, you did a great job!!:) Most often it's the anticipation that is the worst...once it's over, you end up saying..."It wasn't THAT bad!" Still, I hope you were surrounded by kind and caring and sympathetic caregivers...I always think back on my owns fears when I'm faced with a frightened patient. I'll be thinking of you and hoping for an encouraging update! Alopecia, especially for a young woman is very disteressing but you're getting help, and that's the most important first step!! I got a call from the receptionist at the doctor's office today. My appointment with the dermo is on August 8th! :eek: :( Apparently it there are long waiting lists when you want to see a specialist. I'll let you all know what they sayIn August....

I'm so sorry you had to get the evil needle and that you might have alopecia or hyper thyroidism, but hopefully, you'll be just fine, and everything will turn out well. Keep us updated and good luck! I'll keep you in my thoughts. :)
