Do you believe that whales should be in captivity?

What do you think? Do dolphins and killer whales belong in captivity?

I think some do. People find whales and dolphins that are injured, that even thouht they nurse them back to heath, they might never be abl to suvive and fend for themselves in the wild. Or, if a certain type of whale is endangered, programs like Sea World, have a breeding program to raise the population. But, for the most part, I would love to see most whales be free.:)

I agree with GoldenRetrLuver. Injured whales should be kept in captivity until they recover and can fend for themselves.

But I'm very much against keeping them in for any other purpose that isn't for their well-being.

Did you know, that many people swim with killer whales in the wild? And in captivity? But did you know, that there has never once been a reported case of an orca attacking a human in the wild, and that there have been hundreds of humans who have died while the whales are in captivity? Obviously captive whales are not the happiest of whales..

With dolphins, I see it differently. I do not believe in keeping them captive either, but most places that do leave the gate open to the wild ocean in the day, and keep it closed in the night. I like this idea, because most poachers go out at night, and the dolphins have a safe place to saty at night, and they also come back freely, which means that they must like it there :) I've read lots of nice true stories about dolphin sanctuaries, and they people there really care.

After watching Free Willy though, it really puts a bad situation in perspective..

My sentiments exactly, and the same goes for circus animals. Such a humiliation to see born-to-be-wild Tigers and Elephants being forced into performing tricks for human entertainment. The horses probably don't mind, as they have a history of domestication. l

Unless for breeding (if endangered/threatened species) or rehibilitation purposes. I hate the use circus animals also...but that's far worse.
