Ok, I think I have told you my mother and I go to the Humane Society every saturdauy.
Well when we go there we meet new dogs that we really want my mother would like another dog but my dad does not. I would like you people who have more than one dog tell me how joyful it is (or how bad it is owning more that one) and try to persuade my father to get another dog. Thanks! and even if u dont have a dog u can try!!! Oh ya if you want to see the dog i like alot go to www.humansocietyadoptions.com (http://www.humansocietyadoptions.com) and then go under public services and go to adopt a freind and scroll down were it says state and click on FL and then for city clearwater and then go to human society of north pinellas and go to adopt a friend and scroll down to Isis.

It is sooo great having two dogs. When I got my first dog I told myself that I would never get another, one was all I needed. But one day I stumbled across this dog that was being abused so I just had to take him in. Its great, there really is no extra work to it, and a second dog is not only fun for you but it is fun for you first dog aswell, they now have someone to play with while your at work or school, they are not as sad to see you leave because they now have a friend to keep them company. Trust me two dogs is just as good as one.

I grew up with many dogs. My parents loved animals and believed we (children) should have our own pet to take care of. One of those lessons in responsibility. As a results there were always at least 5-6 dogs in our household. Of course added to the bunch were rabbits, turtles, fish and whatever stray or wounded animal we would bring into the mix. I currently have two dogs. The only "problem" I have had is jealousy. That means I have to make sure each is petted, loved, and spoiled rotten the same as the other. I didn't plan on having two dogs, but now I can't imagine my life without my two boys. Yes, you do have to buy more dog food, but you get double the kisses, double the love. Talk to your Dad (don't pester him! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif). Maybe there's a reason he doesn't want to bring another dog in the household. Let us know how it's going.

It's great having 2 dogs, however, your current baby must be ok with this and some dogs would not be. That's up to you to figure out, you and your family knows him best and if you have seen that he's dog agressive or nippy or crabby with other dogs, it may be hard to introduce a new pup. Let me give you a few pros and cons, considering he's been proven good with other dogs:

some pros:

** Dogs keep each other company while their beloved humans have left them alone.

** dogs grow very attached to each other, and a little less needy towards their humans for playtime.

** dogs wear each other out, often becoming trimer and slimer because they get alot of excersise playing with each other.

** dogs are often more happy and comfortable in their home with another pooch in their pack (depending on the dog of course)

some cons:

** It's hard to tell which dog did something bad.

** the original family dog may have some jealousy issues for awhile, depending on the dog, it may last a couple/few weeks, or it may always be an issue.

** depending on how dominant Simba is, you may have some dominance battles (I have never had this happen but it's not all that uncommon)

** if your dogs are not well trained to walk on a leash without pulling, it may make walking hard for just one person.

Isis is beautiful. It says she is a quiet dog. You would have to see if Simba would be accepting of her. My two GSDs love each other. It was love at first sight at our animal shelter's walkathon. We adopted her on the spot and we weren't even looking to adopt again at that time! Two is better than one. Twice as much love!!!! The best thing is that you would be saving her life, too. Try that argument on your Dad, it worked on my husband!!

It's great having two dogs or even MORE...you just have to separate EQUALLY the affection you show dem and they'll be just fine. Some time ago, my mommy got me a second dog. At first my first dog has a difficult time of adjusting, jealousy maybe coz the pup was so cute. However, things work out fine. just to avoid any trouble, everything have to be EQUAL between dem and you'll be happier having two dogs around. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif

By the way, Isis is so beautiful! It breaks my heart to see those dogs behind bars...you know their poor hearts have been crushed http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif

"Dolly" expecially breaks my heart, look at her trying to squeeze through those bars for a simple bit of love http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif Gosh, I wanted a GSD so bad from wonderful bloodlines that I know about and parents that I have met and like, but I am again having second thoughts about going to a breeder when I get my next dog. Look at those broken hearted faces. I can't even stand to look at that site again, it makes me emotional http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif I sure hope you can save one of those dogs from certain death and further heartbreak.

Good advice, AdoreMyDogs.
Isis is adorable. I like the pointer- sharpei x Chance. He's very beautiful. All of the pictures tug at my heart. I wish they all can be adopted.

Isis is beautiful, looks like a good choice :0) Im so happy to hear that you are considering adopting, there is no greater gift, the dog will forever love you for it :0) If I lived in FL I would adopt Chance (Pointer/Sharpei x
the one right under Isis ) in a heart beat.

All the animals were just so wonderful! I would have a hard time making a choice. Although, everytime I look at animals in shelters, I know I would adopt one if I could. It is sad to see those trusting faces look back at you through the bars. It does tug at my heartstrings. Any advice for me on the convincing the husband issue, Sue?? http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif
There were a lot of greyhounds in that shelter, is it part of a rescue?? I thought about greyhound rescue.

What can I say about having two dogs...

It can be expensive - vet bills add up fast. Sometimes it seems like having three dogs, there is dog one and dog two and dog that is seems to be there because of how they react to one another. It is confusing...one dog does what it is supposed to, the other dog doesn't; how do you verbally praise one and correct the other. There isn't much room left on the bed for the humans. Someone always seems to need their ears cleaned, face washed, or feet wiped off. You just spent an hour brushing the dog, and there is another dog to brush. Someone always needs to go out and someone always wants to come in. One likes to sleep late, the other likes to get up early. You don't know who peed on the rug, who got sick in the corner, or who chewed up your shoe. You don't know whose drinking all that water from the water bowl. The recliner isn't quite big enough for you and both of them. In other words it is a little bit of insanity. That said, there is no joy like seeing two dogs run like the wind, with wild abandon as they chase and play. There is no joy like cuddling in one big heap or rolling on the ground with two trying to lick your face. There is an utter amazement as you watch dog two learn how to do tricks from watching dog one. There is always someone who will play with you, keep you company, or take a nap, even when someone else has an attitude and pretends you don't exist. Sooner or later the two dog family start to mesh like a finely oiled machine, things start to calm down, there is an ebb and flow to life. Life is becoming stable and predictable again...that's when it starts....the yearning for the THIRD DOG.

Wolflady,
To convince the husband, just show him a picture (or if you can get him to go to the shelter with you...just to look...better yet) and say to him in your saddest voice with big sad eyes, "Look at that poor dog. Isn't he beautiful? You can't let him die, can you? Look at his sad eyes. (If at the shelter say http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gifHe likes you!! Look at that tail waggin'. He doesn't deserve to DIE, does he?" If your hubby is the big old softy mine is when it comes to dogs, he'll melt. Good luck! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif It worked twice for me!!

Isis is beautiful, what a great name.
Which Chance is everyone talking about, there are 2.
All the greyhounds break my heart, of course its understandable for it being in FL.
They are such beautiful, sensitive creatures. It breaks Shai's heart when she gets in trouble, so I make up for which is counterproductive! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

Sue, great idea! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif I was chuckling while I read your post. I know our lives are a little crazy right now for a dog, but as soon as we work something out (like possibly working from home...) I'm going to be dragging him to the local shelter or rescue "just to look" at all the poor creatures!! Then, I'll put your advice to work... http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif I was on my local San Martin shelter website this week, and the 2 GSDs are still available. <whimper> I would take one home in an instant....
