We found a mix breed dog at a fair in October. She's been at our house since then. We know she belongs to somebody because she is so friendly. We put up posters and no one has claimed her. Do we keep her(we want to) or do we give her to the pound?

Are the posters the only method you have used to try to find the owner? Have you checked with your Animal Control office to see if they have had any calls from someone missing a dog of this discription. How about letting the local Shelters know that you have found this animal. If I had lost a dog, that would be one place I would call. Also local newpapers generally have a lost and found section which people can advertise if they have lost a pet. What about contacting the people that put on the fair? Other than that, if you feel you have exhausted all reasonable means to find the owner, I'd would say keep the dog. You want a dog, this one needs a home, you obviously know a quite a bit about her at this point and you like her and she likes you. I think the question already has an answer. KEEP THE DOG.

It sounds like you rescued this dog from a bad situation and she is lucky to have your home as her home. Why would a dog be running loose at the fair if it's home was a good one? Do your part by putting the local shelter on notice, but if you love the dog and can keep it, I agree with Rachel, KEEP THE DOG!! When I found a puppy several months ago, I utilized the local paper and ran an ad for 7 days. They gave me three lines free of charge. Not one person called. If someone is really missing their dog, they would look in the lost/found section of the paper and call the pound or local shelter.

everyone is right in saying if you have done everything to try and find the owner and you can't find him/her. KEEP THE DOG

Ditto, ditto, ditto!!!! If you have exhausted contacting all relevant agencies, such as police, animal control, shelters, newspaper ads, posters, etc. KEEP THE DOG!!!! PLEASE do not release the dog to a shelter. It's future would be uncertain, at best. It sounds like providence to me that you two met. As they say, "God works in mysterious ways" Sounds like this may have been a match made in heaven. Good luck, and KEEP THE DOG!

Scottie..I have to add my 2 sense of course. I mean, unless you contacted all the agencies and nobody reported the dog lost, KEEP THE DOG! She is probably used to you now and visa versa. What a wonderful thing you've done!
