Ok, first of I need to say this is quite embarrasing...but oh well...I need to get help. :p :o

My bellybutton. Yep, it's about my bellybutton. lol. Ok, here we go (hiding my blushing cheeks!). My belly button is bright red, and it itches HORRIBLY. Not around it, but way inside. There is also this weird kind of odor, I guess you could call it, inside too. Eww, I know, sorry. I don't know why it has this odor, it gets washed everyday when I take a shower. I also took a q-tip and used some hydrogen peroxide and I used a special creme my mom has- that doesn't work either. I talked to my doctor about this, and all he said was "wash it". DUH! I DO...EVERYDAY. I also noticed some skin coming off too. Geeze, this is so embarrasing!! But, what do you think this could be from??? This has had me and my mom stummped for a long time (i.e. months).

Got any ideas??

Maybe it's infected? It'll probaby go away after a while.

True. But I don't see how it could be. There is nothing that I know of that could have infected it.

This has been going on for about a year...so I don't think it is infected. If it is...GO AWAY ALREADY! UGH!

It could really be from anything though. Maybe a shirt, or something is irritating it some how..

Could it be irritation from soap?? I'm pretty sensitive to soaps and they will make my skin itch/burn. Hope you feel better soon!!

Hmm.....good points. I remember I had a really bad allergic reaction to the nickel in my belt buckle. I had to wrap duct tape around it so it won't happen again.

Hey YLL, I think you have a yeast infection in your navel. My father had the same exact symptoms. Two different doctors told him the same thing, wash it, and finally the 3rd Dr diagnosed it and gave him pills to take to clear it up. It was better in a couple of days and gone in about a week and a half. Maybe try another Dr, cause I'm willing to bet you have the same thing he did.

YLL, I get that!! Have done, off and on, seems like forever! I never heard of anyone else with it before now!
Okay, the diagnosis I have had is for fungal infection, apparently it is caused by being moist, not drying well, (though I have my doubts, I always dry well and it seems to just flare up with me, especially if I wear jeans, pants or anything that presses into my navel...). Anyway, I was, and still am when required, prescribed a fungal cream called Canesten, (the active ingredient being clotrimazole) and it clears it up in no time, especially if applied as soon as the problem is begins. I always try and make sure I have a tube, just in case!

Oops, I was going to suggest getting tested for a yeast or fungal infection, but was beaten to the post.

Good luck. It's really uncomfortable thing to have and I hope you feel better soon.
