Yesterday on the way to look at second hand cars, me & my partner just popped into the local RSCPA animal shelter (Where we adopted George 6 months ago.)

And found …..

Mildred or Milly for short (Well that’s her new name)

So this morning we went to pick Milly up, we are officially a two-cat household.

We blame Pet Talk…. Ahhhh… We’ll end up with 20 cats.

Ps. She has a shaved side as she has just been spayed

We placed the carry basket with Milly, in the centre of the living room and waited for George to return (He’s an indoor/outdoor cat, common in England)

http://www.jennykenwright.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/PT5.jpg

When George returned he sniffed nose to nose with Milly in the cage, no hissing just sniffing.

http://www.jennykenwright.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/PT8.jpg

After 5 minutes we thought it was going so well, so we unlock the cage.
They touched noses several times and all was fine until George tried to push Milly with his paw (no claws) Milly hissed once at George and George started sulking.

Both cats have eaten near each other and will play with us (not with each other), so all in all, a good start.

Milly has spent the last hours under the sofa, in a kitchen cupboard ….

http://www.jennykenwright.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/PT12.jpg

behind the television unit…….

http://www.jennykenwright.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/PT13.jpg

and behind the computer/printer….

http://www.jennykenwright.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/PT14.jpg

Meanwhile George has done his best acting. ‘I don’t care about that new cat’, but he watches her everywhere. When he notices that we are watching him, he does a ‘I don’t care face’, it is so funny.

Milly jumped onto George’s’ super-sized cat bed and they sat about a metre apart for 5 minutes.

http://www.jennykenwright.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/PT16.jpg

I think they have both behaved very well today. I hope they will become friends. Milly is still nervous but she is now sitting next to me on the sofa watching me type up this message and George is a bit sulky (to be expected) and has fallen asleep on his sofa/cat bed.

So all seems peaceful.

We are thinking of just taking George upstairs (as he sleeps of the bottom of our bed) and leaving Milly downstairs for the time being. What do you guys think?

Barbara....

I think we have picked a friendly second cat and our George is most laidback kittie ever.

wolf_Q....

Milly is pretty. I used to have a family tortie cat, so when I saw her at the shelter, I fell in love. Also she's a younger girl, which people of this forum suggested was the best match for 8 year old George.

I think we done good! :D :D :D And you did even better, by bringing this gorgeous girl into your home! I just want to smooch her all over, and then start the smooching on old George! I don't have any good advice for multiple kitty homes, but I'm sure there's many other PT'ers who could advise you. I love the "bookend kitty" picture on the giant cat bed - talk about the lap of luxury!

Congratulations, Millly is beautiful!:) It is great how well her and George are getting on after such a short time.:) I don`t have any advice about what to do tonight for you because I am sort of new to owning cats (one cat, Ebby, from Cats Protection in December) but I am sure someone on Pet Talk will be able to help. Once again, congrats!

Millie is adorable. And George, you are doing very well to accept her this quickly. Keep that camera out for I'm sure you will soon be able to take pictures of them playing and snuggling together, and grooming one another. Thank you for giving this pretty kitty (and handsome George, too) a home.

She is the most beautiful tortie I have ever seen! Congratulations !
We are a multicat household, five to be exact, but I don't have any advice to offer you. We had been extremely lucky introduicing the new members, they get along from minute one!
Oh well, Little Pericot the newest one hissed a couple of times to the residents but after five minutes, no more, he was already playing with our flyffly Ginjol.
Koxka, the girl, compains about everything and everyone...so it doesn't count. :D
It seems things go quite good at your home too .George even let her share his bed and was relaxed enough to take a nap,! So I presume he is not very worried about Milly. So I would say let them go their way.

What a face! I love Milly! And George for being so accepting. It is probably too late to tell you this, since your bed time is way past this now...and you have probably already woken up to one or two skirmishs...but, I woulda and still would separate them for maybe one week, if neither of you are at home. Just to be safe. I think things are going great, if they are already sleeping in such close quarters..but, they are still animals (I hate to admit that), and you dont know what might happen when you aren't around to supervise. Good luck, and keep the photos coming!!!!

I am curious how/why you chose your name...I like it.

Congrats on the new arrival.

The new kitty is just the cutest - she looks like she needs to grow into her paws!!

George seems to be taking it like a real trooper - he is a really handsom boy!!

Well done for supporting your local animal shelter too - it makes me sad that there are so many gorgeous animals just waiting around to share all their love and cuteness with some lucky human! At least this is one more precious kitty out of the system and into a good home!

I had a chat with Ally and asked if she would like a "widdle bruvver or sistur"

And she sez: "Dont be silly meowmy - how can u have two kitties wen u only have one LAP"?????

We did seperate them last night. George slept on our bed as usually and Milly slept at the top of the landing (Her choice as she has a cat pillow downstairs)

PS. I choose my name after the excellent book and film of the same name. Everyone should help people if possible.
Milly had to be called Mildred as in 'George & Mildred'

I love Millie's face and white paws and bib. She reminds me of a former foster, Spliffy.

PayItForward,

Milly is beautiful!!! I have a special place in my heart for torties. My oldest kitty, Mollie Rose, is a tortie (9 years old on Mother's Day). She is the most laid back mellow cat I have ever been owned by.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! WELCOME MILLY!

I think you're wise to separate them when they can't be supervised. If not for Milly's safety, but also for George. Although from what you posted, it sounds like they're on their way to a long happy life together.

hehehe...I know exactly what you're talking about because I've seen the same look on Tubby's (also a big black cat) face many many many times. :D

Congratulations on Milly and thanks for all the wonderful pictures!
