New Toll-free Poison Control Number
The ASPCA has a new poison control hotline phone
number for pets. If you have reason to suspect that
your pet may have been exposed to something toxic,
either internally or externally, this phone number
will connect you with an ASPCA veterinarian specially
trained to assist pet owners or other vets.

This is the only dedicated animal poison control
hotline in the world manned by veterinarians, not
telephone operators. The number is staffed 24/7.

Non-Profit Funding
Our non-profit animal poison control center receives no state, federal, or hospital funds. In order for our veterinary staff to be available 24 hours a day to offer life saving advice, a professional fee is charged.
The consultation fee is paid by the animal owner, veterinarian or product manufacturer. Consultation fees are generally less than those charged by other veterinary specialists and combined with grants and donations allow the non-profit Center to break even.

The Center will do as many follow-up calls as necessary in critical cases, and at the owner's request will contact their veterinarian. The Center also provides via fax specific treatment protocols and current literature citations when indicated.

APSS Products
When the call involves a product covered by the Animal Product Safety Service, the product manufacturer will absorb the cost of the call; thus there is no cost to the caller. In the past, I had to call animal poison control when my Great Pyr ate fiberglass ceiling tile. (She was a tall dog, but not THAT tall LOL.) This was about 15 years ago when the call was free. By the way, they had no clue as to what would happen, they asked me to call back and tell them if anything did. LOL Happily there were no ill effects!
