I might be getting a rabbit!

I asked my mom and she said to ask my dad. When I asked him, he said we'll look for one this weekend! I'm SO excited! :D Where do you think we should get it from? A shelter or pet store?

Im not so sure if you can get a baby bunny from a shelter, but I do think you should get one from their. think about it. you can save a bunnys life!:) Im sure there will be some young bunnys but i dont know if there will be really really young babies.

Baby bunnies are a LOT of work.... They are very much like a toddler..they are hyper, have a short attention span and almost impossible to litter train...they are pretty darn cute though. As a rabbit matures they learn that it isn't really cool to have pee in their food and will eventually litter train themselves...there are ways for you to help that process along.

I agree with Brie, go to www.rabbit.org and read up on bunnies first. They have diet requirements that surprise a lot of people and there is a LOT of misinformation about rabbits published in, oddly enough, rabbit care books.... And also as Brie says, you need to find a rabbit specialist vet BEFORE you need one. Bunnies are considered to be an exotic animal and many, many vets don't bother to take those classes. You NEVER want a non-rabbit vet to treat your bunny....what works for dogs and cats, can often kill a rabbit.

And finally, YES, adopt a rescued rabbit.....give one a second chance to have a happy life. I guarantee you will feel terrific for having saved a lost soul. There are many rabbit rescue organizations around and also check your Human Society shelter.... Unfortunately with Easter coming May, June and July will see a lot of rabbits being dumped...it happens every year by people who never realized what they were getting in to by having a bunny.
