My son and his family had a cat called Tieme whose coat around spring/summer time would turn from black as coal to black with deep chestnut patches, cute but strange!

He's absolutely adorable........that's coming from me and Nakita!!

I just realized how small he is! Usually in the pics, it is a close up and there is no comparison (like furniture). My pics of Nakita are the same way. I usually do a close up and then when I show a pic of her beside the couch, people go: "Wow she's small!"

I wish I could come over right now and give him a head rub (and Nakita wants to come over to meet her very handsome suitor!)

He's so striking. I love the shiny black coats. Interesting, though, that he seems to like to match his coat with the season. Very clever.

That is so neat. I've never seen a cat that changes colors like that. He's like a chameleon. :) I agree though, that he's adorable no matter what color he is. :)

We rescued Basie from PetSmart. He had a littermate that was all fluffy gray. Strange, huh?

She didn't know anything about the parents as they were found in a back yard somewhere. We think he has some Korat in him...because his personally is exactly like that...and his size, build and body shape. His undercoat is a powder gray.

He'll be 10 months on March 29th. So, he may grow some more, but I doubt it. Korat's eye's change color when they are two...so I'm eager to see that. :D

Kelly, Basil is gorgeous no matter what color his fur is. :) Maybe his fur changes color with the seasons. You should start a journal and write down all of his info so then later you can go back and see if his color changes during the same time each year. :)

Kelly, thanks for posting the pictures of Basil`s different coat colours. It really is so incredible the way his coat colour changed in such a short time, and is still changing! What an interesting cat! Besides being stunningly gorgeous of course!:)

Wow, thanks for the pictures! That is so cool how he has been changing colors. And his eyes will change at 2??!!!?! :eek: We will definitely need pictures of that. ;) :)

I agree with KAK though, you should keep a journal of when he starts to change, when he seems completely changed, then when he starts changing back. It will be very interesting to look back on when he's older....and who knows what color he'll be. Wouldn't we all be totally surprised if he turned orange next? ;) :eek: :D

PS - I was going through some posts last night at home on my laptop. The laptop was between Terry and the TV, so every once-in-a-while he'd sneak a peak at the pictures I was looking at. When he saw the baby pics of Basil, he melted and wanted to know who that was and all about him. That is the second time I've seen him melt at the site of a black kitten, so I guess I know what I need to bring home if I want a kitten/3rd cat. ;) :D

Yes...if he's Korat...their eyes turn green at two. He's only 9 months, so we'll have to wait for that. I think it would be so neat, although, I really love his eyes now.

Could you imagine if he turned orange??? You know how much I LOVE those orangies!!!

Two of my recent rescue/fosters (a pregnant mom and older kitten) have similar coloring to Basie! They are black, but they have like gray undertones, and the strangest thing... when you ruff their fur in one direction or another, it is white on the roots... it looks like it's their skin, but it's the hairs!!! I'll see if any of my pics show this!
...... well, you can't tell in my pictures so far ... but in this one of Emma (the preg mom) you can see by her face that she is black.. no gray ... no black! LOL!!!
