okay, mickey doesn't have that full sheltie coat just yet but i do have to brush him. i read somewhere that shelties have particular areas where mats and tangles are really common. i want to eliminate them right away. can anyone tell me these particular spots? thanks :)

behind the ears, the armpits and the thigh areas are the most common followed by the neck ruff when it starts to grow thick. (the belly too).

yep. we shave jordans whole belly where most of the tangles are, and leave the sides hanging down. although now he is almost bald. just to much hair. lol:D

Our shelties were always tangled in the "butt" area.. because the fur is so coarse there. It really hurt them to have it brushed out; now we get it trimmed at the groomers, it's just easier that way. My mom calls it "bustle butt" because sometimes it would stick out if they were laying on it funny :D But if you can get him used to it, brushing him there would be a big bonus for when the coat grows in fully :)
