View Full Version : Thread of the Year - 2002!

Randi

I thought it could be interesting to see if all you pet talkers have a favourite thread you think is worthy of the title "Thread of the year 2002". :)

If you each post 1 - 3 titles here, we could have it running until March 10th - or a bit longer, and I will set up a poll with the 10 most popular threads, and then we vote.

Note: The thread has to have been started in 2002.

My suggestions are:

Dear Phred
Bedtime stories
Death to the mini blinds
Boots the kat, visits the vet
The day they came home

That is an excellent idea! There are so many that come to mind and I'll have to think about it a bit. I really did like the Haiku threads that were going on both the dog and cat boards a while ago. There is some real talent here at Pet Talk! (oops! I think they may have been started before 2002. I'll have to check on that)

Great One Randi!!!!

My suggestions would be:

Dear Phred

Fisters' Adventures of how to be a cat!!!

Love Death to the Mini Blinds!!!!!!

The Kitty Party held in Belgium!!!

Pam

Yep the kitty party at Lut's was a winner for sure!

I just found one of the Haiku threads and it was started in November of 2002, but there was also another one from 2000. Here is the cat haiku thread from 2002.

My 3 would be
Fister's journey from rags to riches
The Cat haiku
Belgian Cat party (there are many threads in there like the one with the kitties that came in the train from Chicago and Lut's Cat Hotel)

I will post my favorites later today.

I realize there are threads which have been started back in 2000 and 2001, people would like to choose, I know of a few myself, so I thought, maybe we could do one for the years 2000 and 2001 also. There are some really good threads! ;)

What do you think?

Freckles
03-02-2003, 12:01 PM
Yes, Randi, we need threads for 2000 & 2001. Most of my favorites are from the earlier years.

Randi
03-02-2003, 12:12 PM
Great! :) Freckles, would you care to set up a poll for 2000? Then, I'm sure someone else will volunteer to do one for 2001. :D

Please, let us know if you want to! :)

My favorite for 2002:
Gabe needed a change (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11833)

My favorite thread was the one where Jasper the kitty was found after three months of being away from home. I can't find that specific one, but the update was in 2002, so I will put my nomination in for that thread:

http://64.246.0.213/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14633&highlight=jasper

Other than that, I love ANY thread involving pictures or rescue happy endings :)

My favorite would have to be the Belgium Kitty Party! I haven't been here too long, so I haven't really seen all the 2002 threads, but from all that I've seen Maya's birthday party was my fave. :)

cheetahgirl
03-02-2003, 04:14 PM
What about the birdie party? :)

RockyRoad
03-02-2003, 04:21 PM
That's what I was thinking of, and the doggie & bunny parties too, but I think they were all made in 2003. :)

This is a great idea. :) I'll have to think about it before I reply with my answers.

Randi
03-02-2003, 04:24 PM
Personally, I think the thread about the birthday parties are very good - but they were started in 2003!! If they are to be included, another poll should be set up for 2003, but it may be a bit early for that!

Patience!! ;)

My favorite was Dear Phred - aka the Klamz juice caper!:D

I think we need some DOG threads in the voting too! :D What about some of the picture threads?

I loved "are you missing your fids?" that was the best thread of all time!

uh oh.... i just looked at it again and it was 2003.....:(

ill post back l8er with my faves of 02;)

Miss Meow

Too many choices!!!

I think my faves are:

- The thread in general where almost everyone posted pictures of themselves (never seen such a good looking bunch of computer freaks!)

- The favourite cat phrases (tortellini pose, frito feet was re-discovered from an older threat, olivettes!)

- The Great Clam Juice Debate!

delidog
03-02-2003, 08:52 PM
Frito Feet should go down in history as an all time classic!!!!

krazyaboutkatz
03-02-2003, 11:09 PM
I also loved the thread about the favorite Pet Talker phrases. I know the origional was done some time in March or April of 2002 because I was still a fairly new member at that time. I think that Freckles started the thread. I just don't know how to find it.

How about if the reference (I'm sure that isn't the technical term) is included so we can revisit the nominated thread?

Some are and it makes it so much easier for those of us who are
challenged!

I'm going back for a look .......

The link to Gabe needed a change made me check it. What a wonderful story! How could I miss it?
About the threads - I can't decide which one I like more, but I enjoyed SAS's posts, Tuxluvr's, Edwina's Secretary's, Lut's, Randi's and Jonza's, ACGAS's, MissMeow's, Barbara's and so many others'. The list would be too long :)
I love esp. the threads with pictures, the happy-ending stories and the love-stories between the beautiful cats on PT (Edwina and Gabe - the best).

It's nice to see so many are interested in nominating threads for "Thread of the Year 2002". However, I'll ask you all to post the name(s) of the thread you want to nominate.

I have a feeling that some of you want to nominate more than 3 threads, so let us set the limit to 5 threads you can nominate. The 10 most nominated threads will be put in to a poll.

Some of you may not remember the exact name of the thread you want to nominate, but try and do a search for it. If you can remember one word which have been used in that thread, but has not been used in lots of other threads, you will easily find it. :)

Hi all! So far, 12 threads have been nominated here - you can do better than that!! :D How about if I tell you, you can nominate a thread you started yourself!! And of course, you can nominate threads which have already been nominated! I'll pick the 10 threads which have got the most nominations and we'll vote for "THREAD OF THE YEAR" .

You can nominate ANY thread here started in the year 2002!!

If any of you have problems finding a certain thread, send me a PM or post here and I'll do my best to help. :)

Going back to Thread of the year I would like to nominate "Boots the Kat visits the Vet" even if it was a disgraciful fact .The sense of humor and the delaighful speaking on both sides of Boots&Phred made it so enjoyable theirs misadventures :)
Also
The Recipie Theard, as my gastrical juices were dancing a samba while reading all that yumy recipies.

There's another thread , that I don't remember the name ,I will try to find it.

Yup, it's a great thread, still going strong!

I'm not sure if we can nominate our own threads? Well, if we can, I'd like to nominate this then: The day they came home (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8795&highlight=the+day+they+came+home) because there are plenty of touching stories, esp. the one from Wolflady, I'll never forget that!

This is a good idea, perhaps instead of having the best 10 threads, I am thinking that we could vote on the best 3 or maybe 5 threads from each forum for the entire year. If you look at the number of views compared with the number of replies it usually remains somewherer 8% to 11%. I am thinking that we could use those who have at least 200 views with about 24 replies(which is 12% replies):)

.....wayne

Randi
03-06-2003, 12:00 PM
Wayne, I see what you mean, but I don't think it's a good idea to let how many views there have been on a particular thread influence this, because everyone can go back and view any thread several times. Concerning replies, I think that it will be obvious that the ones with many replies will also be the most popular. Let's see which the members nominate. ;)

Nice to see you back by the way! :)

Aww... thanks, Aly!
Can I be selfish and vote for my Sophie, too?

Another way to categorize would be ... "2002's best feel good thread" or "2002 's best grab a tissue thread" etc.

I'll have to do some more looking before I put in the rest of my nominations...

If you have not yet nominated a thread(s) for "Thread of the Year 2002" you can still do it. :) The ones of you who wanted to find more threads, look for them now, and you can edit your posts! I'll let this thread run until Saturday 15th March and then put the 10 most nominated threads into a poll.

Remember, there's also one for 2000 and 2001! Go and have a look!

Edwina'a "steamy" correspondence with her "date de' jour

And here's one I found with Edwina and Gabe

I think the title was something like Gabe, Come Rescue Me (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18973&perpage=15&highlight=Edwina%20AND%20Gabe&pagenumber=1)

One more I found of Gabe and Edwina

Gabe the Dude (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18220&perpage=15&highlight=Edwina%20AND%20Gabe&pagenumber=1)

Still looking for the phone one. :)

Gini and Lbaker! There are several threads with the title Pettalkville included, but this is the one with the most replies:

What would your job be in Pettalkville ?

and the one you started Gini, is this:

Arguing in PetTalkVille???? (secong most replies)

Is it any of these you want to nominate?

Lynne and Amberlee! This: Livvy's plan to leave home? has not been nominated before, but I take it, it is now - by both of you. ;)

To everybody! If a thread has been nominated already, you can still nominate it!! I take the ten threads with the most nominations and put into a poll on monday! :)

.... So, you have this weekend to do it! I'd rather not have more than five nominations from each!

I just searched and PetTalkVille (what would your job be?) was started by Sammi in 2001.... I don't have time to go back and read the whole thing right now but will later on. I guess that doesn't qualify for THIS Thread of the Year....... I went back and re-read "Dear Phred" and embarrassed myself all over again by laughing so hard "AT WORK":o of all places. (but they know I'm weird anyway;)

Lbaker, you're right, one of these Pettalkville threads (in the post above) was started in 2001, so that one won't count. However, the other one you CAN nominate if you like. :)

The Pettalkville thread started in 2001, you can nominate in Freckles' thread.

Laurie, the Dear Phred thread was the one that had me/us laughing the most too - just hilarious!! :D

Hi!

To those of you who have made comments, but not actually nominated a thread - it's time!!

On monday 31st. at 6PM GMT time, (that should give you all a chance), I'll put the ten most nominated into a poll.
