The big one for the winter is hitting us today! It is snowing right now and isn't supposed to stop until tomorrow night around 5:00 pm. They are calling for 20+ inches in some parts of our area!  I will be shoveling little paths for the pupsters to go potty. It will definitely be over Ripley's head! :D :D I am glad I have plenty of people food, dog food and cat food in the house. :) As long as we are warm and I have an internet connection everything will be OK! HA! Is anyone else in Pettalkville getting this storm?

Pam, your area is to get a boat load of snow. We, here in the area near Canada shouldn't get a flake! But, it was -25F last night and not going above 0 today! Yikes. Everyone is staying inside to keep warm.

I surely hope Christian has fun in the snow and gets to build yet ANOTHER snowman! Have you showed him how to make snow angels?

Keep us posted on the depth of the snow! Stay warm and safe and watch out for snow shovel accidents. Ouch, the back!

It started snowing here around 4:30 p.m. on Friday. I'm not sure how much snow we did get (I have heard from 3 to 6 inches). I don't think we have had this much all winter!

We woke up to a couple of inches, and it's still coming down--I guess the bulk of it isn't supposed to hit us until tomorrow, and then there will be more----ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!

Pam

OK here I am reporting back in. I am 10 miles south of Philadelphia. This storm is one of the biggest ones to hit our area in years. We have well over a foot on the ground now and they have boosted the total accumulation up to 25". It is still snowing and blowing and it's a challenge just to keep the deck cleared off so that the dogs can go down into the yard. They have finally just about given up looking for that perfect place to go potty and seem to be going under the deck where it is somewhat shielded from the wind. Earlier they did have a bit of a run through the yard (the snow is the fluffy light sort) but now even Bella is having trouble. I'll try and post some pictures tomorrow. How's everyone else doing????

We're waiting up here in New England, Pam; any time now. The Cape is supposed to get the brunt...predications started with 12" but they keep warning that it could be more! Yikes, wherever will we pile it up?:D I'm counting on Star and Cody to plow me a path to the backyard!:) Be safe all! And Pam, don't lose little Ripley in the drifts!! (At least he's black!)

Hehe! No you have to come and shovel it and take it yourself if you want it! LOL! That's the worst part. My back is aching just looking at it! My son's friend usually comes over with his snow blower and does our walk and driveway but he was at the NASCAR race today in Daytona in 80 degrees.

Well, it will be our turn soon. We are to get at least 6 inches. Not a big deal, but the big deal is that the temperatures are going up, at last! It has been SO cold here lately that when the temperature goes about 32f, everyone walks around without coats.

We are getting pounded here too!! I hate it!!! I don't like being forced to sit in the house! I decided not to go to work today. I'm sick of risking my life to go to work when all of our appointments cancel. And then we have to sit there all day while the snow piles up because for some reason, Dr. Sova doesn't think we should leave. Considering my area gets twice as much as his, I'm not goin anywhere!!

I haven't ventured outside except to shovel off the deck for the dogs for the 100th time. Here is a shot of a portion of the deck with the drifting snow. Bella is wondering "How am I going to be able to go potty in that?"

02-17-2003, 08:40 AM
Here I think it is pretty much over with (sigh;))
I think I've had all the snow I can handle for one winter. We usually don't get this much snow the entire year, let alone in one storm!
The way it looks at your house, reminds me when I used to live in ND, I sure don't miss that at all. Hope you guys don't kill your backs trying to shovel yourselves out. Remember, lift with your legs:p

Gee, Pam!!!! I have never seen snow like that except in Colorado!!

All we got was rain and then ice. Thankfully, it hasn't been too bad and the roads were still ok. We didn't get nearly the problems with this ice storm that we did last time. But we're thinking of you all, and my muddy Goldens wish they were up there playing in your snow. I wish they were too!!! At least they wouldn't have mud everywhere!!!!

Stay warm you guys and don't get lost in a snowdrift!!!! :)

HeHe! My boss left for Vermont this past Wednesday for a few days of skiing. He shouldn't have bothered! The worst part of it is that he drove up and now he is worried about the return trip home. I don't think many of the airports are open either, so no matter how you look at it travel is pretty much at a stand still and he would have had a problem either way.

How is your snow up there in Vermont Sallyanne?

Here in the Midwest, we periodically get these kind of snow storms, but Pam yours is one that would make even a Midwesterner gasp. The nice part about living in an area that does get frequent snow is that we are ready for it. The snow plows start warming their engines at the first few flakes whenever there is a storm warning. The major roads get taken care of first and then the side streets. Problem is every time one of the snow plows goes down the street, it will push up a pile right in front of your freshly shoveled (snow blowers used mainly) driveway.

Although we had blizzard conditions last Friday, it didn't leave much snow in the wake. The yard is white, but that is about it. I think the states to the east of us got our share and theirs as well. Sorry about that, but I don't miss the ordeal of trying to shovel to even open the back door and then a path so there is somewhere for the dogs to *go*. One year we had to use the driveway, which meant I had to go out with the dogs on leashes. It was awful because in addition to all that snow it was bitter cold.

You all try to stay safe. Don't overdo on the shoveling. Do a little bit at a time as with the cold it is very hard on the heart.

If the plow ever gets to my street I will tell him to cart it away to Indiana! :D I have no idea where Philadelphia is going to put all of this snow. I think in our last bad storm they had to dump some of it into the Delaware River!

Pam, there are so many different elevations to Vermont, that maybe your boss did find some snowy ski area. The further south and east you go, the more the snow fall, for this storm anyway.

We are to get the snow this afternoon and all through tonight. It is freezing cold right now!

I will keep you posted.

The last prediction I heard was "at least 20 inches." We'll post some pictures maybe tomorrow, when it's supposed to taper off! Miss Hoppy went out earlier today, but when her front two feet sunk into the snow, she gave up and went back into the house in disgust! :)

That's exactly what happened to us. The counties directly south of us have snow emergencies and we got like an inch and a half. Sucks doesn't it? I was all set for a 2 hour delay today and no such luck! lol

Pam

Molly, if you lived in NJ you would have a few days off, not just a delay! But - - - you would be spending those days SHOVELING!!! ARGH!!!! We have been taking turns all day and I have muscles that are aching that I didn't even know I had. Pictures to follow in the morning (of our labors - not my muscles  ) Be careful what you wish for Molly and Sara!! Karen we'll be looking for your pictures, and I am also the proud owner of a CRV. I know it is going to do just fine in all of this mess, but fortunately I have stocked with food, etc. and have no need to go out. :)

Well, it finally started snowing about 5 AM this morning. You must know that I live north of Burlington, only about 1 1/2 hr. from the Canadian border and very near NY state. We often get weather conditions the same as Montreal or northern NY, rather than Burlington. I also live on one of the islands in Lake Champlain, tossing in another weather condition factor.

Anyway, right behind this front is another storm coming on Wednesday. Yipee. We love the snow here and are prepared for it ... well, I love the snow, I cannot speak for others.

We are all looking forward to temperatures above freezing!

So no shovels for us right now. I surely hope everyone south of us has found the path to the street and that the snowplow has arrived at least once!

I was listening to the Notre Dame basketball game tonight and they said that it was the smallest crowd that they had played in front of this season, but they oked it since in some parts of the mountains in West Virginia had 40 inches of snow with this blizzard.
